Did the Bameboy/GBA also sold more than 100K a week for months in Japan back in the days?
I think GBA SP managed to do that for a few weeks, but not as consistent as the DS's doing now.

In a nutshell, no.

Looking back at some old Media Create numbers, here are all of GBASP's 100+K weeks. Consecutive weeks grouped together.

2003-02-10: 114,000

2003-03-17: 101,500
2003-03-24: 117,600

2003-12-15: 132,400
2003-12-22: 168,000
2003-12-29: 242,800

2004-12-20: 190,268
2004-12-27: 116,801

Original GBA had a pretty good stretch at the end of 2002, though.

2002-11-18: 150,800
2002-11-25: 145,900
2002-12-02: 120,400
2002-12-09: 241,600
2002-12-16: 325,400
2002-12-23: 282,200
2002-12-30: (Missing from records, but almost surely above 100K.)

I don't have any Media Create GBA numbers from before 2002-08-19, so I can't say what happened there; someone would have to pull out a similar Famitsu list or something. I'm sure there were no half year stretches, though.

Damn.... the SP only had 7 100k weeks, when the DS has had 100k weeks for the last 8 months (except for 2 or 3 weeks).

I said "wow".

glad to heard people isn't stupid anymore
Aaaaah.

**** the DS will never stop at this rate.

When will the PSP stop selling fine?

After it has defeated the GameCube in a long and difficult battle, the valiant XBox360 slowly approaches its next foe.

Prediction: DS beats both Wii and PS3 sales this holiday and continues to dominate into 2007...It's unstoppable.

Is it just me or do those numbers make console gaming in japan look dead? Next gen better spur some growth.....
Well to be fair, its been awhile since the introduction of the PS2/GCN.

It will pick-up once the PS3/Wii hit.

Unless of course the DS just devoured even some of the console market.

What exactly is "General Knowledge Training"?

Your worst nightmare.

EDIT: It's just that, general knowledge about a broad variety of subjects that gives you an age like the Brain games.

GBASP at 35 weeks: 1.76M
DSL at 35 weeks: 5.36M
Time for GBASP to reach 5.36M: 124 weeks
(We're dipping into GBASP's third year now. By this time original DS had released and GBASP's sales had slowed down. So the DSL's sales this week alone jumped 13 GBASP weeks.)

"GBA after SP" at 35 weeks: 471K
"DS after DSL" at 35 weeks: 482K
Time for "GBA after SP" to reach 482K: 37 weeks

DS at 35 weeks: 2.73M
PSP at 35 weeks: 1.58M
GBM at 35 weeks: 507K

Graphically

GBASP LTD is only around 6 million... DSL can pass that by the end of November, supply willing.

11.56 million. I've just noticed this is the 100th week of DS being on the chart, so the average DS+DSL week has been 115.6K.

Just went back and added previous media create threads and got 11,943,343.

~6.6 Mill DS Phat + ~5.3 Mill DSL

It's actually really fun, from what I can understand of it. Set out just like the Brain games, except without scary Kawashima face to give you nightmares...!

General knowledge everyone should know. Like if it asks what's the handheld that no one likes because it has no games, you would correctly answer by writing "PSP"

Joshua, your figures are off again.
DSL 5,364,012
DS 6,580,365
Total 11,944,377

Therefore, 11.94 million

Edit: By the time I posted this I thought you had corrected your reply. It was actually Nutter who posted amended figures.

One thing this image shows is that most handheld consoles had started to slowdown long ago, but the DSlite keeps going.
There really is no stopping it, and I think the market is well and truly opening up in Japan.
I just Hope Wii and PS3 give each other a good run for their money in Japan, its good for all of us if they do.
Nintendo will keep innovating and Sony will keep on upping their Tech in consoles.

Yeah, but the thing is, that has never happened in Japan, IIRC. Once the market chooses a winner, it's full steam behind that particular system.

not necessarily, its just the PS1 and 2 offered the Japanese what they wanted. As did the NES and SNES.
Hopefully Wii and PS3 can now.

PS2, NES, PSX?

I think that's it.
gameboy+gameboy pocket+gbc totaled together must have breached 20 mil. GBA in it's incarnations probably came close, and if the SNES didn't breach 20 million it probably came very close.
