Apu: I bid one dollar.

I'm sorry, you might want to go to that table over there. The one where the fat lady who is singing is sitting at.

My table only accept minimum bid of 100K. This is Casino "Royale", you know. For blue blooded, and rich, people only :D

So yet another Wii vs DS thing. This time I automated it, so I wouldn't need to in the future. Since I'd already made pages that could list system X's sales through point Y, I just doubled it up and cut. Put Wii and DS next to each other, but removed entries from publishers "Nintendo" and "Pokémon". The weeknum value tells which week to compare, 1 being the first week. The most recent Wii Famitsu software data is week 47, so here are things now. At the bottom you can find links to the previous and next weeks. Here's where the end-of-year comparison will be.

If you're worried about the extra quarter for Wii sales affecting your comparisons, don't forget that we also have complete DS/PSP sales for about the same time period (through Apr 10/05). These are Media Create numbers, but we also have complete Wii/PS3 Media Create sales here through Apr 1/07 if you are looking to keep the comparisons restricted to the same tracker - although I don't personally see the differences between the trackers as being significant enough to worry about.

Anyway, here are the MC DS/PSP numbers through Apr 10/05, which should allay your concerns about the extra Wii data through the first quarter.
Thanks. I won't try to combine it all right now, but I've made a note of that data. Since we usually concentrate on the ones that get more than a couple dozen lifetime sales it's not a big deal in most cases, though a few games like Feel the Magic did rack up quite the sales under the weekly sales radar.

That's pretty telling. The Wii is really trouncing the DS in 3rd party sales at the same time in it's lifespan, not the least because the Wii actually has more 3rd party games listed. That seems to indicate that the Wii is getting more support than the DS was at the same point in it's life? Or is it just that the DS had more competiton at the time, so was getting less games into the top 30?

This is why all the fretting in this thread is ridiculous. As I said before, the DS had FAR more to worry about in ITS first year in terms of 3rd party sales and support.

At least part of it is just the somewhat more complete nature of the Wii data; none of the launch games fell through the cracks, while some of the minor early DS launch games did. I'm not sure what the actual count of games through about a year is for each.

If you check the end-of-year link I gave, you'll find a few small games like Spiderman 2 DS which released in earlier 2005 but never hit the Top 30, so don't show up on the list until the end of the year when it showed up on the Top 500. Checking the link Dalthien gave to some earlier Media Create data, there are even some more that apparently couldn't even make the Top 500, like Space Invaders and Tiger Woods. If we had data for those, though, they'd be hanging out on the bottom of the list next to Wii's Wing Island and such.

Amazon Japan is pre-soldout of Umbrella Chronicles (the standalone pack).

Capcom Japan's out of the free wallet freebies too.

It could be the zombies...

Then again, RE4 PS2 was the best selling RE game last gen; RE4 gets even more credence after you count the GC and Wii versions.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

Ghost Squad sold 20k the first week. I think its possible that UC will do around 50k.

I think UC will do a lot more than 50K.

PS3 > 360 + PS2 + Wii.

Also, bad legs for Galaxy. I think donny said if you keep with the SMS legs ratio, we'd get a 90k week.

242 000 for Mario Party DS? That's a lot better than first day sales would've led us to believe, right?

Nice PS3, decent hold for Wii, PSP dropping a bit still, DS might be recovering, PS2 impacted by PS3 a bit, 360 holding strong.

Mario Party DS, great. Mosou PS3, dunno. SMG, big drop. The rest, can't be arsed.

well considering that DW was a million selling franchise on PS2..? which sold most of its software in the first few days,..? a huge drop off

Long legs are influenced by the amount of people buying the system more than anything. Galaxy could drop off the charts, or it could keep chugging along at Wii Play levels for all eternity.

Having now played Super Mario Galaxy, its disappointing sales performance in Japan stings me greatly.

Mario Party DS nearly matched SMG's first week. :(

Good to see the other streams cross, even if it's not *quite* as high as predicted in that report from yesterday. I just hope this is the *start* of something instead of a random statistical blip so that we can actually have some fun competition happen this gen.
