Media Create Sales 10/29 - 11/4 2007

wii sales still about what they were last week so marios definately bumped it a bit, very disapointing 2nd week for mario though but if it has at least small legs should easily pass zelda:tp and might end up as a million seller (in japan) eventually

All bets are off once WiiFit launches, but people will still be trying to judge that on the first few weeks performance, despite what happened with brain training.

Wow, SMG is struggling to reach Sunshine. :\ Megabomba. :(

Did you just compare DW6's first week to SMG's second week to try and make it sound like a success? :lol

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
That's what you get Miyamoto! For making fun of ZTP sales!!
It's outselling your golden child!

Japan hates video games :(

Impressive sales for the PS3.

The real question is, how much of the hardware bump comes from renewed interest in the PS3 after the 40GB's lower price, and how much is attributed to the Musuo bump?

In the US, we saw 360's sales double with the price drop, then double again when Halo was released. The PS3 may be seeing two overlapping bumps as well.

Dude. SMG did like 50k more in the first week compared to DW6's 200k first DAY sales.

DW6 sales are 1st day buddy. :lol And they are exponentially higher than SMG's 1st day sales. 1st week sales will probably be fairly high as well as compared to SMG's 1st week.

And no it's not a measure of success, more of a comparison between 2 very different games on 2 different consoles.

Who cares? People were pinning their hopes on SMG because a resounding success in Japan would almost certainly have meant a surge of support from 3rd party devs.

Wii Fit sales will increase the Wii userbase but are unlikely to go hand in hand with an increase in traditional game sales.

It's also a new color. We all know what happens in Japan when a console comes out in a new color.

In fact, I think it's time for Nintendo to come out with their big gun.

I'm not saying he should compare their first weeks either really, but the way he did it was silly to being with. Musou games are suppose to sell better.

A bit better than the DS Castlevanias, if I remember correctly. This might influence Konami's decisions...
Implying what now? DS CV always more than made up for it in NA.

Poor poor Galaxy :(

At least it looks like it is getting the respect it deserves in N.A

Nice for PS3, next week will be interesting- it should be pretty high again since this week only tracked the opening day of the price cut.

So, once again, it's as I've been saying: SMG sees a terrible dropoff (worse in % than Super Mario Sunshine, after already starting out lower in numbers). When you pair this with the huge success of Wii Fit we're going to basically see the Wii officially miss any chance at being a machine that appeals to core gamers, unfortunately, unless something crazy (like wild success on RE:UC) happens....

:lol No fucking way. Even as their release dates keep on slippin' slippin' slippin' into the future, these games are still not going to put up last-gen numbers.

Really, everyone should get used to all their favorite software putting up terrible numbers from now on unless your system of choice is DS (or 360 and you are easily impressed.)

I would hope Brawl would at least entice some of those core gamers.

It should be arriving at my doorstep anytime today via UPS. I'm skipping class to make sure I don't miss it. :lol

I don't care about the 'surge'. If a high quality third party project gets greenlit based on SMG's success, it wouldn't be on shelves for another 2 or 3 years.

I dont get it.. Mario Galaxy sales are actually considered as bad..?

330k for the second week is far from bad..(no 360game and no PS3 game has achieved that number) and we still have november and december in front of us (which are the biggest weeks for sales obviously)

its not like 360 or PS3 has some killerapps this winter.. its pretty much Wii FIt, Mario Galaxy, DQ 4 and FF 4 this winter...

Precedent my friend, it's tracking below Sunshine which just shouldn't be happening.

Umm... GT5:p and Lost Odyssey are first to say hi.

Very discouraging 2nd week of sales for Mario Galaxy, but let's see if it has any kind of legs with the upcoming holiday season. Mario Galaxy should be a million seller, maybe not in Japan, but US for sure. I'm predicting Galaxy to be a multi million seller in the US, since US still cares about the hardcore games, unlike Japan, it seems.

Good ps3 sales indeed, but the true test for ps3 is in the weeks and months ahead. Let's see if the weekly average can be elevated from its horrible 10k to <20k average it's been doing for quite awhile now.

1) The console that is annihilating competition in Japan.
2) It's flagship "core-oriented title" is tracking behind the previous (failed) console's title.
3) ???
4) Failure

Consoles are so fucked.

As are my eyes, for not being able to put up with handheld screens for long periods of time. You hear that, The Japan?! You're indirectly fucking my eyes!

I haven't kept a close beat on sales figures, but I'd like to submit one neat little thing to chew on: How do SMG's numbers compare with other strictly single-player console games this year? I look at the other games on the list and see all of them have at least some multiplayer aspect -- even if it is just some kind of mini-scoreboard dealie like the Training games have. Seems like games with absolutely no social factor are getting shitcanned more and more in The Japan.

Edit: If Galaxy has any kind of multiplayer function, I'm entirely unaware of it. I'm so in the dark about the game. :(

330k is way lower than I initially thought it would do. I do, however, strongly believe that the title will have some amazing legs during November and December. I won't dare predict any numbers though.

It does, it supports a second wiimote. Certainly not a traditional multiplayer game though!

I don't get the surprise over the numbers...this trend has been obvious for the last ten years. In relative terms, Galaxy's numbers are very good. The market for 'traditional' console games is simply far, far smaller then it was before, with most gaming now done on handhelds. That's been the reality for a while.

Personally I couldn't give a damn what gaming is like in Japan...it hasn't been relevant to me for years. Then again I don't really care what the tastes are for people anywhere, since most are a long way from my own.

1. yeah.. which cannot be bad for mario galaxy

2. We dont know how it will turn out.. This holiday season... there arent as many titles that Mario goes up against.. (In 2002 it was Nintendos own Mario Party 4 and Zelda WW as well as Resident Evil 0, Tales of Destiny 2 a million selling hit, Unlimited Saga and a few other big games) Wii Fit.. sure.. but it will only help to increase the Wii userbase.. so that is not a bad thing for Mario Galaxy sales.. GT 5 P and Lost Odyssey were mentioned but i doubt that those will sell well.. Even Dynasty Warriors 5.. a title that usually sold over 1 million units easily and opens with over 600k totally bombed... in other words.. nearly no competition

3. ??

4. TEH SUCCESS!

In addition to a wiimote and a nunchuk, or just to replace the nunchuk? I can't imagine two people coordinated enough for the former.

This is a load of bunk. Oh no, you're presbyopic.

Go see your optometrist and get your eyes checked. Take the prescription and get spectacles made.

And then WEAR YOUR GODDAMN BIFOCALS!

Really. There's no excuse, unless you've got keratoconus or macular degeneration or something.

Yeah, not a huge surprise, but still disappointing nonetheless. The traditional market is a niche market in Japan now. Publishers who have hedged their bets on traditional/hardcore games on consoles in Japan are fucked. They need to start looking to US and Europe now.

I got carried away. It's not my eyes that bother me; I get headaches from concentrating on portable screens for too long, and I'll usually keep playing long after my head is hurting because I'm all "Well, shit, I can still see and my hands still work fine." It's the consoles that screw with my eyes, because I'll go long periods of time without blinking if I'm playing a fast action game.

It's called eyestrain. Go get an Rx already.

In any other wii game, two people can try to play coop by sharing the wiimote and nunchuk anyway. :D
