I don't really see a tidle wave of Nintendo dicks in these threads. I'm a general Nintendo fan, as are a few others, but aside from some being brutally honest, no one is being a dick here.

No one except for a few of the crazies act like you can't have fun with the PS3 or 360, just that for some reason or another they haven't gotten them (price for me). Everyone can get enjoyment out of any system they have. Some are just doing better in the game then others.

And that's what pisses some of you off. Few will attack the games, because game enjoyment is subjective. But the cold hard realities of the market have always been open play. Back when the PS2 was lead dog, you got that same kind of discussion, but it was to his liking, so he had little problem with it.

Wow, sick burn dude. I'd never have thought of posting about SMG's low Japanese sales.

Sony would have to provide the right kind of software. With the exception of Gran Turismo, it's something they have never been able to do in any market.

If Sony have too good capabilities in the own internal development team, they run the risk of alienating third party. At least, that is the understanding I got from most discussion when discussing Nintendo's excellent first party vs lousy third party, people keep on bringing "Nintendo's first party are the reason third party doesn't want to develop for Wii".

Wii Fit is going to be absolutely huge.

I went to Bic in Shinjuku today and witnessed their new demonstration kiosk for Wii Fit. It attracted quite a few crowds and the workers have jackets that say "Wii Fit Staff" on them. Took a few cell phone pics.

In other words, the holiday season's begun in Japan. The game stores I visited today were rather busy.

everyone would say damn that guy is kind of weird. thats all im saying.

Why would it "swallow his soul and drive him mad", maybe it's his hobby and he actually enjoys it? Do you think everyone likes to jerk off to trannysurprise porn like you do all day?

Perfect timing on Nintendo's part, Wii Fit will be huge but I want to see if it's going to sell to the Wii Sports crowd or will it actually sell to new users resulting in increased hardware sale on a weekly basis.

I couldn't believe it. Even japanese kids are into Wii Fit. (joking).

I remember the Tingle staff. Is it normal, to have a special jacket like "Wii Fit Staff" for other big games promotion in Japan ? Never been to Japan, so need to get some perpective.

Eh, I would wager that most of the "Third Parties Hate Nintendo" rhetoric stems from the opinion that Nintendo never bothered to reach out to third-parties. Sony has always been very forward in helping out third-parties [moneyhatting, durr] in various ways; whether that's sending out in-house dev teams to help utilize an engine [UE3], or saving a company's ass from going bankrupt [$80mil gift package to Squaresoft after FF:TSW anyone?].

First party games should be the cream of the crop, or at least, challenging for the top spot in quality.

SE has been the most prolific third party publisher on Nintendo platforms for the past three years. Some of you still talk about SE as if they're just moonlighting on rival platforms until the PS3 or PSP gets up to speed.

In anycase, Sony was very helpful and had a business plan that was beneficial to third parties up until they launched platforms that cant sell software. Jack Tretton insisted himself Sony doesn't honeyhat developers in the way you're implying.

Try again.

Oh please. We all know that's bullshit. Moneyhatting doesn't have to be in ways of "we'll give you $50mil for your DLC content," but rather it could mean in various ways such as paying for third-party ads [which Sony has done], pay for publishing/distribution, help with development costs, etc. To say that Sony has not done that, and is not doing that now is just naive.

Why pre-order it ? Just curious, since you didn't see overweight (unlike me) (and I believe you should be in "fit" condition, since you are still young).

Beats me. I thought it would have been huge myself and predicted sell outs. Alas, that didn't happen. Mario Galaxy's performance has been akin to any major game that debuts above 200K, but it remains to be seen whether it can have the legs to be a huge hit.

Wii Fit is Nintendo's final game to be released on Wii this year. Mario and Sonic at the Olympics was released yesterday, so it's those 3, plus Wii Sports, Wii Play and Umbrella Chronicles that will carry the system through the holidays.

Some of the minigames just looked like good fun. I don't have any intention to actually lose any weight or become any healthier via Wii Fit.

I pre-ordered it because I predict sell outs. Then again, I had the same fear with Mario Galaxy, but look how that turned out. :lol I did pre-order in good faith the Wii Zapper pack for UC though.

I would say go on and make the official Japanese thread. The game launches in 7 or 8 days, doesn't it? If hype is as big as shown in your pics, I'd say Gaf will want to know the details :D

Just for being wii fit it will be a.... popular thread...:lol

Then you should come out and say that specifically. It's a meaningless term unless you mean it to subsidize development costs directly so that games that would otherwise not get made are made. What you're describing is helping existing software perform better in hopes to generating good will and loyalty and potentially new hits. It works very well for them but it's not paying off publishers to stay exclusive. The rapdity in which they've lost exclusives attest to this. And when software tanks, 3rd parties have cut back immediately. They're in a position now where their sales potential is almost entirely shouldered by second party and 1st party software. That sounds like a rather familiar scenario doesn't it.

In anycase, I just wanted to make that comment. The larger thrust of your argument, although valid in 2003 seems quaint. I'm not saying you're wrong, it's just a dead horse and the market has moved on since.

I am not that optimistic. Quite a lot of people dislike its relatively ugly game cover, and some comments from the early release of the game are quite negative.

I'm not familiar with any negative response to the game.

This is probably the case, I agree. Nintendo is pretty much doing the extreme opposite of what did them in(or part of it) during the N64 era. That is, draconian policies regarding third parties. Now, they're pretty much the laizzes faire type, pretty much telling third parties they are free to do whatever the hell they want, and don't expect meddling from NCL. That includes moneyhats(unfortunately?).

Nothing like that in my neck of the woods. Just a few posters up. However, the TV ads have apparently been making an impression. My Fiancee had no idea that SMG was coming out, but she and even her Mom know about WiiFit. It is being showing during a lot of the programs that have a high female viewing figure.

As for the Vinnk's Village report, I have the numbers, I just have to get it formatted. I'll put it up tomorrow. That is of course if Mr. Mister is ok with that.

It's simple, number of casual gamers >>>> hardcore gamer.

No matter how you look at it Mario is a "hardcore" game compared to Wii fit.

It still did well though.

Wow at her mom. She should be around 50-something, right ?
And female are one of market who highly value slim & fit (even to the extreme case of anorexia-like figure). If the female want it, they will get it. 8800 Yen + 20000 Yen is nothing. It does not even touch half the price of Louis Vuitton or Hermes wallet, let alone their bag.

I predict that Mr. Mister will be banned by the time you post that info, so it is safe to ignore him.

Wow, I can't believe the discrepancy between Famitsu and MC numbers this week. I had a feeling that the margin would have been smaller, but not that much smaller.

I think Wii will be back on top of the home console sales next week, and then if Wii Fit doesn't provide the boost that it is expected to... well then I don't know what is going on with Japan!

I want to get in the WiiFit prediction but I would like to know the shipment number first. From what I know, the stock is very limited (combination of high demand and low supply). At least, I predict it will sell all first shipment in 1st week (i.e. by 7 Dec)...

It will be amazing to see line-up for WiiFit in Japan on that day...

So why it was not released on US ? 368,582 sales from Famitsu is surely not a bomb (IMO), but it is not considered a huge success either. Even Fire Emblem which only sold 236,370 were released in US, while Mother 3 is not.

Great to see PS3 picking up steam. It'd be great to see Nintendo and Sony sell neck-and-neck for a while now, should provoke some big game announcements like the early DS/PSP days.

1st day

DQ4 - 360,000 (70%)

PES 2008
PS2 - 155,000
PS3 - 107,000
360 - 7,000

FF XI
PS2 - 71,000
360 - 4,000

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games - 15,000

Mega Man Star Force 2 - 40,000

Dino King (DS) - 40,000

Never thought I'd see the day JJS would be insulted.

On the sales side of things, both PSP and PS3 are maintaining, in my opinion, good sales thus far. PSP definitely exceeded expectations, and this momentum will definitely carry over onto the holidays, with the possibility of rivaling the DS in holiday sales. Good times. I wonder if it will carry over into 2008.

PS3 passing the Wii in terms of weekly sales is not surprising, considering the price drop and new color (people love them their colors) but for it to continue and sustain its sales is a nice sight to see. I remember deciding to get a PS3 because of the BC and FF13, but balked at the price. Sony's taking the right steps to get PS3 into people's homes, it seems.

SMG's sales have been disappointing, in that they aren't a runaway train of stars, platforms, and mustaches. I'd think that the sales are decent, though, and the release date will give it legs into the holidays and beyond. Nintendo needs to get the kiosks out and run ads. Make a new generation of gamers raised under the house of Mario. Go for it, Nintendo!

well you have to remember as well this time its being split between the ps3 and ps2. so the ps3 is stealing sales from the ps2. i think if you add them both at the end of the week it might get close to what pes 07 did. oh yeah as well the 360.

WOW for DQ4. I honestly wasn't expecting it to sell more than 600k LTD, since it's a port of a remake. But Jesus Tapdancing Christ.

Ouch for Mario & Sonic, though I wasn't expecting it to sell in Japan either.

I think it will have similar numbers with SMG for first week. But I don't think it will drop off as quickly. Casuals do not usually buy a game on launch day, they life to wait and see (and play it at a friend's house). Like Brain Age. But I think there is enough early hype that it will have a 200-300k launch week.

But after SMG I don't know what to think anymore. Anything is possible.

Wow, PES PS3 is much closer to the PS2 version than I thought. But as a whole PES 2008 doesn't appear to be doing too hot(shipping numbers ?).

Dragon Quest doing well, but will probably suffer supply problems over the weekend.
Megaman Starforce 2 not so hot, but original was a slow burner as well.
Mario&Sonic bombing, which is fine by me. Buy the real mario game(no, not mario party) , you japanese freaks !

I've seen this shifting hardware over the last day. All the PS3 demo pods I saw today were pushing PES, and all the gamers were intently watching.

DQ4 definitely didn't look like it was down to 30% stock here. Today (a national holiday) the game stores were still rammed with stock.

Some of the numbers for other games are looking a bit healthier, too. I guess the shopping season is kicking off.
