If every weeks shipment sells out in like one hour and masses line up for just a new color, what's their motive for not producing more at this point?

Maybe they physically can't. :lol

Probably has something to do with Nintendo's obsession with profit margins. Also, any word on how FF3 is selling?

Still topping Amazon's charts. It fell to #2 when the black DS Lite became available.

With their bank account, they can do everything.. I mean: NINTENDO CAN DO EERYTHING!!

Sure, but demand doesn't seem a little higher, but way higher and more consoles sold only means better for them (sells games etc.).

Maybe they're just hyping things with a little shortage every week, so it looks like there's never enough. People want what they can't have.

Ach, I think they're just waiting for it to die down and scared to put money in new production and die with millions of DS lites left in the warehouses..

Burnst - It is probably because they'd have to build another plant. It'd probably take sales like this for years longer to justify that sort of investment.

That's what my last point is about. I don't think they have to build a whole new plant though, but it would cost them, sure. Maybe they're not ready, since they just upped production this summer. I guess we'll never know.. There are many possible reasons, but with Japan doing 200.000 a week, Europe 140.000 and Amerika (dunno) little under 100,000, they sure as hell can't save enough for this holiday season if things don't calm down.

I bet Nintendo has been stockpiling, say, 100k DSLs per week since June for the holiday rush. If not June, then July or August

They have the Pokemon rush to contend with first.

I don't know, but lets say they will be able to stock 100k a week for half a year. 26 weeks = 2.6m DS lites, which really isn't enough for a WW holiday season. They might need 2 times as much this year..

Most of the DS components are bought from other manufacturers iirc (NEC, Sharp, etc)... it might be a signle component (like the screens for example) that're limiting supply?

Yeah, Nintendo said that they can't really push the 2.2 million production numbers as there would be supply issues.

I belive the DS lite manufacturing process is part of the issue, because the casing has a clear plastic layer and the base color. If it was just a single piece, they could probably make more, but the design is what makes it so cool.

Guess we won't see any 600K weeks this year, just 150-200k every week until the end of time.

Yeah, too bad. So simple math gives us:

21.43m until the end of july WW (from Square2005's thread, seems about right)
5 x 2.2m per month = 11m
total: 32.43m (sold won't be much less, maybe 2m max.)

after about 2 years (less in Europe, more in USA and Japan)

Nintendo shipped 21.27m worldwide till the end of June :)

Post them anyway. I need my fix. Just put a warning that they aren't the usual numbers and aren't reliable as your usual unconfirmed numbers.

Yowza at FF3 if true. I saw the sign indicating it was sold out in another thread, but you'd think they could get some more stock out there sooner than that.

Hahaha oh wow. Square better start getting those FF3 carts out next week. Tingle sold well, I doubt it'll crack 200k though; a pity.

Or maybe, contra GAF's predictions, it's following the sales pattern of traditional FF games rather than the random DS game model.

Looks like the first one is rounded to the nearest 10k.

There is not much of a difference, seems first one is rounded.

So if FF3 is sold out what did people buy with their 150K black DS Lites? Big jump for mario?

AW SNAP, I'll wait to until next week to proclaim myself to be vindicated total, this could be just shipping issues.

Burnst

If FF3 is sold out, they probably didn't ship anything last week. It had a sell-through of 91% right? The other 9% would be a little under 50k, which was sold last week.

Seems like a bad production move by SE..

Well, I know I saw some pic here on GAF with a giant "SOLD OUT" slapped on an FF3 ad outside a game store, although who knows if that's telling of much of Japan or just that particular store. I suppose we'll find out next week, but they better get more units out quick or the Pokemon juggernaut will crush them.
