Kenka said:This isn't a wise move. PS2 sales are still not as bad as Gamecube ones. And Gamecube has been supported during its whole lifetime. It's just...well dumb.
And what about PSP ? We don't really know why but its sales increased this year and it would be incoherant to bring them out of shelves.
For god's sake, please Ntards, don't make this thread explode in a flood of insanity.

The place is called ハローマック (Hello-Mac).
It looks like a nationwide toy store chain with 150 locations across Japan according to this page.
A picture of one such retail location is here.

Is a 150 locations a big chain, medium chain or small chain ? I don't know Japanese store, so I need to ask. How big is the yodobashi chain ? How many location ?
Well, duh.DKnight said:Do you guys realize that sign only attains that specific shop chain and not all Japan, right?:lol

Cheesemeister said:Just to get an approximate comparison, KB Toys currently has about 605 stores in the US. If you figure Japan has half the population of the US, a chain the size of KB in Japan would have ~302 stores. Hello-Mac has 150, so is about half as prevalent as KB in the US.
Yodobashi, OTOH, is more like Best Buy.
apujanata said:Thanks for the reply. But even though Japan has half the population of US, how big is Japan compared to US ? I think Japan is much less than half the size of US (maybe a quarter or even smaller ? I am not good at geography). Is it more fair to compare the population compared to size ?
One more question : How expensive is the land rent in Japan ? I know Tokyo is one of the most expensive city in the world, if not the #1, in regards to property price (and rent price).
Can a chain like this drop only the PS3? I guess that's the essential question. Would Sony allow any major retailer in their regular supply chain to continue stocking PS2s and refuse PS3s?DeaconKnowledge said:If that store dropped just the PS3, i'd be more inclined to think this was a huge problem.
Dropping all the systems (including the PSP, which isn't doing too bad for itself) makes me think that the store itself had a falling out with Sony.

I don't know the answer but my Spidey sense tells me perhaps the store first intended to only drop the PS3.

farnham said:Plus.. why are they limiting their own selection ? Having a wider array of offers is always much better then only selling a selected few products.. especially for such a big electronics chain..
