Media Create Sales: Week 12, 2016 (Mar 21 - Mar 27)

Seems to me that SO5 is to SO3 what Setsuna was to Chrono Trigger. Lol. The heart is willing but the wallet is weak.

This makes a lot of sense, this market isn't as big as it used to be and they have a western side to invest in as well.

It makes more sense to me that Nier is among them now, it doesn't have the old school comparison since Taro Yoko's games have always been lower budget productions but it's another game that might still look attractive to this audience.

Yeah, definitely wasn't expecting that, it's going to quickly stay overtaken at this pace.

I don't think it's gonna be close between the two of them, just wanted to point out that 13 isn't going to be moving for quite a while.

It begins.

Trying to compare SO5 FW sales with SO4 for XB360 is unreasonable, says the blog.
Better compare it with the PS3 version, in that case it might win.

[360] Star Ocean: The Last Hope (Square Enix) - 162.232 / NEW
[PS3] Star Ocean: The Last Hope - International (Square Enix) - 72.026 / NEW

"Might", not even "will", so it will not even be by a big margin, damn.

Star Ocean and VP confirmed dead.

I hope the sales in Asia will make it up for Star Ocean. :p

Wow. Even my estimates were apparently waaaay too optimistic, and that says a lot.

Wait, is the new VP already out in japan?

The producer wanted to pitch Star Ocean 6 and Valkyrie Profile 3 based to Square Enix, but was explaining that Star Ocean 5 would have to sell well to do so.

It's... not really the type of product I expect to have a huge Western skew either, so that's probably the end of both of them for now unless Square Enix has some very low expectations.

The only title I can remember PS3 got a late version was Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

Famitsu Sales: Week 52, 2014 (Dec 22 - Dec 28)

17./00. [PS4] Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor <RPG> (Warner Entertainment Japan) {2014.12.25} (¥8.208) - 14.206 / NEW <80-100%>

Guess this is the end of Tri-Ace venture in console gaming then and also end of S-E new IP+old IP revival project as most of their project does not perform really well and i don't feel Nier is also going to do gangbusters here.

Oh well, they tried their best.

I blame the people nowadays and last gen for killing JRPGs. :(

I dont think giving small budget for devs is equal to trying their best though? It kinda feel they wanted to take risk but halfway chicken out there as they feel the investment is too much.

Rakuten Weekly Comment

- PlayStation 4 is again the best selling console of the week. Nintendo consoles sold more than the previous week, especially Wii U and its Mario Maker Set that had some re-stocking units during this last week.

- Yo-Kai Sangokushi is the best selling game of the week. Rakuten Books showed Star Ocean in second position. However, in the Shopping Mall the game only could chart from Books, but Dark Souls and Dragon Quest even though they charted in lower positions had much more shops that made these games chart. So, it is almost confirmed Star Ocean selling bellow expectations.

- Super Mario Maker had a special boost coming from the bundles restocked. Pokkén is showing some legs, and Mario and Sonic, Minecraft and Splatoon climbed some positions. Nintendo Select sold quite well: Animal Crossing, Tomodachi Life and even Taiko no Tatsujin could possibly chart. (This latter in Top 30)

- Final Fantasy XV, was the most pre-ordered game of the week. Joshin and especially Rakuten Books managed to outsell everything on the Ichiba. Ace Attorney 6 could have got that first position if it wasn't for the great Square Enix game pre-orders start.

Yo-Kai Sangokushi did worse than I expected, it had a lower debut than Pokémon Conquest (172.027).

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is a huge flop, what went wrong here to do it that abysmally bad? Yeah it looks low budget and the previous title had bad worth of mouth, but even so.

Read above

So... SOV sold barely more than Setsuna yikes.
140k for Yo-kai seems a bit low, more inclinded to believe the 270k number.

So, the lesson we could take is that Star Ocean 5 should've been a PS4/Vita game with a simultaneous release, then? :P

Well, on the contrary, 270.000 would be at the high end of my expectations.

I would say that it simply shouldn't have been green-lighted.

Doesn't SO5 itself have bad word of mouth as well?

Not really. It's a Star Ocean game through and through. It can be divisive since people didn't like the length.

RIP in peace SO

Looks when it was released.

Damn tri-Ace :((
Hopefully Nintendo would purchase them after their inevitable demise and integrate them into Monolith so they churn out Xenoblade sequel faster :)

The only hope left is that the blogger is trolling and instead seven eleven is eleven seven (117k). Still being a bad result but not catastrophic.
