I can't think of a single example of a CEO of a large corporation accepting a demotion and staying on with the company in something other than a token role. Does that really happen, in Japan or anywhere else?

Hmm... 3DS leading the way by a mile but in terms of overall numbers the Nintendo and Playstation families are pretty close (PS leading slightly?).

When a drop from week 1 to week 2 in sales is around 80% doing any comparisions at data taken from 1 week is pointless.

Golden week starts from april 29 in japan. Not surprise to see games scheduled for release around that period.

I would expect that decreases in the weeks leading to GW are typical, exceptions when mid to big games are released.

7D 2020 II being up is surprising, for awhile it seemed like the PSP market was down all over.

I'd really like to see a 7th Dragon II on 3DS though, especially after EOIV did so well.

Hmm Tomodachi Collection seems likely to have a pretty nice first week. It won't be as crazy big as Animal Crossing but I think the game is going to do pretty well now that the audience for it has bought the platform en masse.

Well...at least TC: NL will have a bigger opening than the original (100k, IIRC). Can't really say much more than that.

Obviously there will be more preorders for TC now than before. It's a widely known franchise now whereas before it was just some random game.

I dunno, I think Nintendogs was more a product of it's time, I'm not sure how much audience crossover the really is between AC/TC and it today.

Maybe a budget priced reprint+eShop would do okay numbers with a renewed campaign, but I think that'd be true for a lot of Nintendo's 3DS titles (Kid Icarus, Brain-Age 3, the N64 remakes, etc).

38./47. [3DS] Fantasy Life <RPG> (Level 5) {2012.12.27} (¥5.800) - 2,828 / 277,712

Are yall ready for Fantasy Life Plus?
Based on the improved western version, right?

PS4 tie in maybe to improve features? (and make it cheaper I suspect)
Not sure how much they can 'redesign'. Certainly making it look a lot less like the PSP would maybe help.

Are you sure they don't just mean the 4G version already announced?

4G version was never announced. There is plenty they can do with a redesign. I really want a tablet version, but besides that they can finally include onboard storage (at least 8GB), hdmi, R2/L2 while releasing a frankenstein add on for current vitas, 4G with online play over 4G, and so on. I am not sure a redesign would have a huge impact though. The price cut's impact seems to be dwindling already. I just think the vita is destined to just be a niche product.

Slimmer, lighter. They can introduce a cheaper model with less features and lcd display. I want a 7" Vita with 64GB.

Something like this, but 10" for me. Anything over 5" would need an attachable pad IMO, otherwise it would be a design nightmare.

I wonder what Ken Kutaragi is doing right now ... perfecting 4D technology on his own?

isnt he still on the board of directors at sony as advisor ?
he likely has no actual or a small input on what path the company will take though

Krazy Ken might have driven the playstation brand off a cliff but that does't mean his mind isnt valuable keeping around.

Initially I thought Sony wasn't expecting much for Vita sales so they weren't actually manufacturing that many units.
Now I think there's a smaaaal chance of redesigned version to be announced soon.
(This may be just new "value" package with small memory card).

I was hoping for a semi-value type redesign (not 4G yet) to speed things up a bit. Seems a bit early still though. Maybe they lost faith in the price drop.

I also had a suspicion there was a vita shortage for a while. About the 3G vs Wifi models, Sony mentions something when they equalized the price:

"Our impression was that some customers felt the whole thing was too complicated," he told Famitsu magazine. “They didn't really follow the difference between the 3G and Wi-Fi models, and they didn't really get how 3G worked. So maybe it's a forceful kind of approach, but we thought we should keep it simple. You can use the 3G model in nothing but Wi-Fi if you like, and that's ok, because they're both the same price.” - Hiroshi

Ken Kutaragi is currently president and CEO of Cyber AI Entertainment Inc. He also serves on the boards of Kadokawa Group Holdings, Inc., Nojima Corporation, and Rakuten, Inc.

In 2009, he became a visiting professor of Ritsumeikan University.

On June 29, 2011, following the reshuffling of management, Sony announced that on June 28, 2011, Kutaragi had stepped down as honorary chairman of SCEI. Kutaragi relinquished active management of the business he created and built into a powerhouse in 2007, when he stepped down as executive Chairman and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment.[18] He has remained at Sony as senior technology advisor.

Not sure what happened to Cellius.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellius ( yeah yeah)

Cellius (株式会社セリウス Kabushiki-Gaisha Seriusu), located in Shibuya, Tokyo, is a computer game developer founded in 2007 as a venture between Sony and Namco Bandai. The aim of the company is to "help take share from Microsoft Corp. and Nintendo Co." [1] Sony hopes that the company will make up for the losses it made during quarter two of its financial year. 'Father of the PlayStation' Ken Kutaragi was announced as CEO.

Namco Bandai holds 51% of the company, and Sony holds 49%. The company plans to use Sony's Cell microprocessor, the heart of the PlayStation 3, for PlayStation 3 games and games for mobile phones and personal computers.

Their first project is a new Ridge Racer game for the PlayStation Vita.[2][3

not sure how recent this is but anyway

it might also no longer exist as their main website is gone.

I don't remember who specifically, but there were a lot of insane predictions about the baseline rising even in the face of an upcoming software drought.
I only recall only one person saying 30K as the baseline. I remember because I asked them about it lol.
Ok, i see, thanks for the info :) Difficult to say what the new baseline for the Vita will be in my opinion. The Vita sold initially much better than what many were expecting after the pricecut, so maybe it could maintain better sales than what was previously expected (before we saw the sales after the pricecut).
