Media Create Sales: Week 28, 2013 (Jul 08 - Jul 14)

Pikmin 1 had a 75% drop and 2 had a 81% drop but for some reason the sales of Pikmin 2 more than doubled the previous week in its third week.

A 80% drop for Pikmin 3 would be around 18k sales but what will be interesting is its legs. The others held the 25k+ mark for some time.

My first point is that the Pikmin franchise already had a 75% and a >80% drop in the past. In the case of Pikmin 3, a 20k prediction equals a 78% drop which is in line with the franchise past performances.

My second point is that big rpgs are also very frontloaded which is a counter example to what you said about "only niche rpgs" seeing heavy drops. It's not particularly related to Pikmin.

were the other 2 weekend releases? also i didn't say "only" niche rpg's have heavy drops. I said" usually " theyre the only ones that drop 80%+.
In an earlier post i also said i depends on a number of different things

See my ninja edit (sorry) for other games where 80% drops are common.

Anyway, I think we're talking about 5k-10k units sold difference at the very most if we are going to factor in the different elements such a weekend release for example. Personally, I think this variation is much closer to 5k in the case of Pikmin 3.

Now like I said before the most interesting thing to watch will be how the game will sell in the long run, and if it will profit from any kind of surge in wii u hardware sales.

Pikmin 3 will probably have a softer second week drop than previous Pikmin titles (about 70%), but much shorter legs. I won't be surprised if its lifetime sales are about 250.000, max 300.000 units.

First Pikmin benefited from a big Christmas boost (it sold 50.000 units during 3 consecutive weeks). Pikmin 2 had very impressive legs from week 3 to week 7, that won't happen this time.

Why is Ambulance in the front mirrored? Or is that the joke?

Without the success of the Wii franchises the Wii U is destined to be another Gamecube. Trying to appeal to core gamers but being mostly ignored in favor of Playstation.

The Gamecube was competing against the PS2 juggernaut and coming late to it. Sony hasn't been nearly as big since then. It was understandable why they wouldn't have designed the Wii assuming some kind of fall from Sony, but the Wii U just had no excuse. The Wii U's basic design just showed a complete lack of ambition.

Even if everything had worked like Nintendo expected and Nintendo Land became a new Wii Sports, they'd just be looking at Wii numbers again. There'd be no opportunity for growth. And, if it failed... well, we're watching that now. The console dipping bellow GC numbers.

Damn, some posts are predicting the Wii U and Pikmin to crater not drop. Regardless of whether it's considered a system seller or not, seeing how it's the biggest release in the upcoming months, If the Wii U goes straight to where it was the week before Pikmin was released then... Damn.

It worries me too, but it's just my gut feeling.

I'd LOVE to be wrong, mind you.

Thanks for the data.

Famitsu 2013 Half-Year Top 100 should be up soon.

I expect M&L to do even better than Dark Moon, maybe not on the hardware spike side, but on the software side. For sure.

That series totally exploded in popularity with Bowser's Inside Story.

Man, you're even more persistent than the Pacific Rim followers at OT. I feel bad for not giving a shit about Vita, given your incredible enthusiasm.
Don't worry about it man, I care enough for both of us.

that's why he's so likable. I picture SmokeyDave as a guy you'd want to have a beer with
Do you mean 'have beer poured down your neck, get frogmarched to a cashpoint and then wake up with a fuzzy head and a new Vita'?

'Cause that's how it goes down in my town ;)

Pft. Meet the real most popular game in Japan of 2013 (so far):

That's a horrible picture of a horrible chart, but the green line is Line Pop (pun intended) and the nearly invisible brown line with white markers is Puzzle & Dragons. This chart is for the amount of users, with the max being 5 million.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Pikmin 30,997
Youkai Watch 28,707

:0

That seems a good second week for Pikmin 3, given Wii U's environment right now...and a great second week for Youkai Watch!

Not a great debut for M&L4. It'll have legs, though.

It was also really hot to the level of heat wave in Japan last week, and it came out in a holiday weekend where people were not in the streets. Even the Pokémon Centers were fairly empty and that seldom happens.

This has an effect on sales. I'm not saying this to spin but as an explanation. You need to factor in all the factors in order to make a determination.

Then why even say it at all? That's right, you are contriving an excuse. And people were in the streets, it's summer, not a pandemic - that original statement is simply not true.

EDIT: I didn't realize the original date of the thread, though the point still stands.
