Media Create Sales: Week 33, 2016 (Aug 15 - Aug 21)

Sales-Age Genius

PS4 is sold out at amazon for a long time now.

I asked if there is shortage and the answer for availablilitty at stores was quite clear I think (if you don't want to imagine things).

I never thought Tsutaya, Yodobashi & Bic aren't stores :p

Online stores.

I won't start again PS4 second week shortage round 2.

For those retail channels listed above online store unavailability pretty much equals store unavailability (reverse isn't always true though).

Umm..... it shows how the growth which Xilia gave had decline back to the Hearts era..... i mean is that any good number here?
TOH and TOI also saw a huge decline when compared to the previous mothership titles on PS2. If it's bad now, it should be bad back then too, no? BTW I was just teasing. Please don't take my post seriously. :p

I've said this before but if we consider the fact that TOB is a prequel to the much criticized TOZ, 250K isn't a bad first week number IMO as a drop was expected. Also, it does seem to have a good WOM so hopefully we'll see slightly better legs.

I agree, I find those sales solid, as the drop from Zestiria was definitly expected, not just because of the shitstorm but because Tales of does regular release without especially reinvent itself, that's the least we can say.

Xillia's huge sales were never the baseline for the franchise and considering the depressive state of the japanese home console market, that's a natural decline similar to the Yakuza franchise for example.

I'm not sure the good word of mouth will do anything for the legs but in any case the fact the game is appreciated by the fans of the series is very important after Zestiria.

Now waiting for that PS4/Steam release in the West ^_^

Thanks for the RTK13 link! I'm definitely looking forward to more new announcements in the upcoming weeks.

Adding this to the previous titles, I think we're actually up to nearly as many 3DS titles as the last Road To TGS already (not that this was a huge number).

Tales needs a hiatus.

There was no mothership title and only a single spin-off released on console in 2013-2014.

It sure helped.

Umm..... it shows how the growth which Xilia gave had decline back to the Hearts era..... i mean is that any good number here?

Xillia didn't have any growth, it just went back to where the series was supposed to be in the first place if it didn't go on every platform (wii, 360, DS) but the right one (for the series that is, not trying to be a Sony defense force member here).

Lol. No problemo. I just consider making a game on handheld would had different expectation vs releasing a game on console.

I do feel the reason why Berseria underperform here is thanks to how bad Zestria is.T_T It poison and scare the fans to buy the game day one.

Bamco would better try to find a way to reinvent Tales series here. But sadly, seeing this is Bamco, i had fear they are going Gundam G Generation'ed Tales here.T_T

Talking of TGS, if Capcom's sticking to their "one Ace Attorney game per year" strategy, Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2 should be announced in Famitsu next week.

That's only if they haven't revised that strategy following AA6's underperformance.

About AA, the anime series should end on September 17th. Second Blu-Ray box has 11 episodes, so that's 24 episodes in total (first one had 13).

If a second season is announced (which will be the case if DGS2 is out next year), then it should be announced at TGS.

Yeah what Bamco should do was to put effort to the franchise and earn back the trust. I guess they've succeeded on that.

Not actually that important
Next week the original 3DS model will finally hit 10M... so basically 3DSLL/N3DS/N3DSLL account for roughly 55% of the total sales of the 3DS line. Not too shabby for the OG 3DS but seems kinda low for the New! line if we also exclude the 3DS LL sales?
What's the ratio between OG NDS and Lite/DSi/DSiLL?

Isn't one of the "Tales of" main problems that it's been flip flopping back and forth between platforms...?

Tales of Berseria sold more on it's first week than Vesperia, Innocence, Hearts, and Graces. Any version of those games sold less on its opening week than Berseria.

But somehow, Berseria killed the franchise because it did not sell as well as Zestiria in the first 7 days... and of course is Zestiria's fault.

Everything makes so much sense in here.

Yep
3DS titles get announce, usually, also later on (probably because of shorter dev cycles? dunno)
I think that the main gap compared to previous years, in fact, will happen post-TGS (due to the incoming NX release)

That was a "problem" ... about 10 years ago.

You just made me realise that Tokyo Xanadu PS4 is two weeks from release. Eep.

Kondo and his PS4 dreams are in for a rude awakening.

Hopefully Berseria has some legs, if Tales dies I would lose one of the rare series that still get me excited when it releases and that I truly enjoy playing. It's also a shame people did not like Zestiria, since it was my personnal favourite.

It's sold out in some places, but still available in others. It's far of being completely sold out. But you can have problems especially if you live in a small village.

I live in a small village. :) No problems getting one here. [Anecdote]

But even if I couldn't get one locally, they are available everywhere online. [EDIT: I guess not "everywhere", I saw the list posted, but many online shops still have them. Rakuten, Suruga, etc. I still hold that if you want one you can get one]

But yeah, I'm sure it's sold out some places. And some colors / bundles are indeed sold out, but I don't believe anyone who really wanted a PS4 this week was out of luck. I don't think the supply constrains had nearly as big an effect as the fact that Obon is over and people are going back to work.

Nah its fine I wasn't very clear, haha.

I guess I don't know what you are actually expecting from this on the PS4 if it gets launched day and date against the 3DS (which will eat up like 70%-80% of the sales total sales) and a next gen handheld. Even if they (PS4/NX) split it in half or if the NX eats more into the 3DS, how much are you expecting here and how does it compare to the already present audience?

It will "help" in that it will sell to the audience that already exists at this point.

Sorry, at work! I expect to sell at least 600k(worst case) and that's higher than any PS4 game to date. Only FF audience will be able to overlap that much but it depends how the two games are received.

i am glad someone has made a huge revelation that the lost PS4 sales due to shortage is likely insignificant

I found always amusing that despite being all regulars here on M-C threads (ones more than others) almost nobody has the balls to directly mention Chris when they want to contradict/mock him. What did you do to them Chrissssssssssss??? hahaha

Perspective: Berseria was released on 2 Sony platforms. And if you add Vesperia X360+PS3 and Graces Wii+PS3 launches then they don't apply to your rule ;D

Reading the Japanese comments on Berseria's sale. The biggest reason (like 90% of them) is that they were waiting to see reactions from other players before buying. They took a lesson from Zestiria. And some of them are waiting for used copies. In the end, it's mostly Zestiria's fault. Or should I said, Hideo Baba's fault

WOW Vesperia PS3 had some massive legs! I'm sure it sold a ton of those copies through budget releases but still! Best game!

Anyway, the Berseria sales are probably a bit underwhelming though I wonder what the sell through was and Namco's expectations. I think they considered Xillia 2 sales disappointing though Xillia sales probably affected to their dumb brains too much.

And how does Berseria compare to other series forays on PS4? This is the first title on the PS4 in Japan.

I feel like Persona 5 is almost too lucky. First FFXV gets delayed and now the cheaper PS4 slim supposedly is releasing mere days before the game.

I think it will be bigger than many anticipated, especially if it has a good word of mouth.

Vesperia and Graces ports aren't exactly the same game and probably had many double dippers, so there is no reason to combine them.

I'm not saying Berseria sales aren't disappointing, but the series has known worse (despite not being on Sony platforms) and it didn't kill the series. With Berseria being well received, maybe if the next ps4 Tales looks appealing, the sales can bounce back once again, who knows.

I am hoping for cell shaded graphics to make come back. It's not like Namco doesn't know how to do that anymore, just see Naruto series of games.

That said I can see Steam release helping. Isn't it about 150K before the recent crazy sale? That's not bad considering the much higher margins vs retail. At least it helped Zesteria.

I think the new game is unlikely to do as well since Zesteria bundled Symphonia port and people were burned with that one plus the game itself was not generally well received.
