Media Create Sales: Week 38, 2011 (Sep 19 - Sep 25)

What's going on with 3DS exactly?
I bet on overall confidence in the product. I myself was a bit sceptical whether to buy Vita or 3DS, as I wasn't sure if 3DS will get as much as 3rd party software I like, I am not now. And of course, MH is a game with 4 million installed based and a new main entry in the series will come out in like two months, even if 1/10 of this installed based decide to get the system for the game, in the next 10 weeks it should bump the sale by 4 thousand a week on average.

It'll be interesting to see how the 3DS will compare with the DS this holiday season. How does the 3DS lifetime numbers compare to the DS' 38 weeks of total sales, out of curiousity? I may be reading things wrong but it looks like 3DS is slightly ahead.
This chart isn't counting the holiday season 2004 for the original DS, so launch week gives 3DS an edge here.

Also, what was the bump on week 16 for?

this time From Soft get all the money, since they're the publisher.

so yeah Sony is a fool, one of their worst mistakes this generation is to abandon Demon's Souls.

Dark Souls is going to sell millions worldwide, more than most of Sony's first parties

I think you are overestimating, Dark Souls will do 1.5m more less worldwide at much.

It was doomed (according to the media) and Nintendo was apparently going third party (like every gen) but since Nintendo's last conference, it is going up and up.
I wonder if the media focused more on the western market, or did japanese media write the same thing? The 3DS sales still havnt proven to have massive increase in the western world after the pricedrop.

What the fuck just happened to the 3DS? I mean, why the hell is it selling so much?
Not that I'm complaianing, but I am genuinely very curious as to what the reason is...

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

Well, DS had that loli witch touching thing SNK did, or two of them. Don't know if that actually sold, though - or if it was even targeting the same audience.

I don't have the numbers now (Doki Doki something), but it did much much lower.
But it was another genre...more hentaish.
Chris could help us...

Oh that'd be why. I was wondering since I always thought DS was quite a bit ahead because of the holiday season. I guess that explains it. I wonder if the 3DS will be supply constrained this holiday season since there will be a new color + price drop + Frankenstick + Mario Kart + Mario Land 3D + Dragon Quest Slime + Inazume eleven+ Monster Hunter Tri G+ 3DS first holiday season.

I'm guessing week 16 might be Nintendogs or Golden week. Although I don't know for sure.

A 40% price cut combined with a major holiday line-up and a good looking horizon for Japanese audiences.

it just get all the games, that's why, and it get all the games, because it is cheap and get all Nintendo games.

You're not going to see any changes to the stock's trends until investors actually get more information that is relevant to them. Wait for earnings reports and forecasts and the like.

that's what I believe as well. I am sure when Nintendo announced their expected very low profit some months ago, they had already seized MH, and they based their predictions on that, so that wouldn't definitely change much in terms of stocks, as it won't change their low profit short term performance from what they expected.

I imagine their main concern will be worldwide sales since their primary fixation seems to be the iPhone.

That will also be the crux of reaching high revenues and profits.

Doki series by SNK - LTD
[DS] Doki Doki Majo Shinpan! (2007) - 39,012
[DS] Doki Doki Majo Shinpan! 2 (2008) - 29,298
[DS] Doki Majo Plus (2009) - 13,978

But Doki Doki wasn't a fighting game, more a visual novel with fantasy elements.
A more reasonable comparison would be with Ikki Tousen, a fighting game from the same creator of Kagura, from its same publisher, Marvelous and with a lot of boobs too:

[PSP] Ikki Tousen: Eloquent Fist (2008) - 13,978
[PSP] Ikki Tousen: Xross Impact (2010) - 29,268

...destroyed.

Vita will be fine at launch. The real test for both platforms will 2012.
If I was a 3rd party publisher, I would be looking through my IP portfolio to find the next MH/GTA/COD for PSVita. When I say MH/GTA/COD I mean franchises that have been around but have the potential to become mega hits.

3DS WILL DO WELL this holiday in Japan. more questions?
Ninty didn't really get this machine going as expected, but they're doing an excellent job to fix it

Is SD Gundam GGeneration 3D considered a big release? How did the previous entries perform?

New Love Plus is also coming in december... While it won't sell that many units, it will probably move a good amount of systems.

Unless of course people start buying in October in anticipation of Nov/Dec shortages

The main group of people who buy a month+ ahead in anticipation of shortages are probably resellers, not normal people.

Nobody expects much from Tetris (10/20) or FabStyle (24/11 or something)? Even the prequel to that weird otome license game by Alchemist that releases a week after the pink 3DS did ~90k last year.

...Ah.
Now I remember that...for Holiday 2011, 3DS should also see the release of Rune Factory 4.
And, above all, Girls RPG by Level 5...a game that could surprise with the Pink incoming.
Nicola... a 100k seller.
Like Shin Chan.
About Tetris... eh, it is published by Namco, not by Nintendo...and I don't think we will see another million seller anymore from that brand. But what it could do in the end, especially NOW, is something very interesting.
Especially because Tetris will be the game for Pink 3DS' launch.

no way that low. Demon's Souls sale number is close to a million.

I predict that Dark Souls will sel 2.5 to 3M worldwide by the end of its run

There will always be a reason for the 3DS to be doomed again next year.
"3DS is performing well in its own right, but it's still far behind the iPhone 5. And what's going to happen when iPhone 6 releases later this year? Nintendo needs to admit defeat and shift software development solely to mobile platforms and Wii-like console games for the while family, or they'll end up killing themselves!"

Great job with Dark Souls! I just hope From can avoid whoring the franchise out - keep it unique and innovative, no yearly sequels please!
