Am I the only one who's actually been following CODBlops Declassified? Game is looking middlin tier, and I'd place Lady Liberty over it as Vita's closest thing to a killer app for the rest of the year.

I actually only looked at the last week of November and December, so I missed AC.

I'm not sure which will sell more.

This is sad, very sad.

This brings up a good question though: where did they get the numbers for 360 Dishonored sales?

Amazon does not give out sales numbers, so unless that policy somehow changed it would be downright impossible to determine the number of copies that sold, other than banned site-style guesswork out of the ass. Really makes you question the credibility of some of the lower-selling titles, and whether they've been getting similar treatment.

Do we know that Amazon doesn't give out sales numbers? I mean they give numbers to NPD in the USA and chart track in the UK, is it that much of a leap for them to give numbers to m-c and famitsu

Haha, this is like an evil genie-type wish grant for Altus fans who wanted the SMT franchises to get the recognition they deserve and top sales charts.

Here's the complete list of companies that provide sales data to Famitsu for tracking purposes. Amazon has never been in that list. It's been assumed that they interpolate online sales, but now the talk is whether they were simply applying some sort of multiplier to PS3 sales, or really just pulling it out of their ass every time.

Well, I guess it's reasonably safe to conclude that the endless barrage of exclusive, Japanese third-party titles for 3DS coupled with the increasingly large gulf in hardware performance have given Sony ample reason to be very, very concerned about the health of the Vita in Japan. The Vita floundering in its home territory is nothing new, but mustering about 6,000 in weekly sales is entering new, uncharted territory. This week's sales data - in my eyes - relegates the handheld from "barely conscious" to "deep, irreversible coma" status.

The door arguably (and ironically) remains open in the Western territories, and consequently I think it has become clear where Sony needs to divert its resources (inb4 "what resources?") if SCE as a whole still believes the platform can become [somewhat] viable at in the near future.

The delusional PR speak is especially revealing of the agenda. The Vita is now approaching its second holiday season in Japan. Sony wants people to withhold verdicts on the platform's health and sustainability until Vita's "first holiday season" has run its full course. Sony (imo) conspicuously tailors this statement for the two major regions to which it applies.

Ergo, Sony has no defined plan of attack for Japan during the holiday season. It's very possible they've simply thrown up their hands in resignation and have already condemned the Vita's performance in Japan as beyond salvageable. This isn't non-sequitur logic or handheld-bashing - it's quite reasonable given the circumstances.

And what an approach!
I cannot still believe that Sony was willing to leave Vita in such situation during 2012 holidays.

Nice for Bravely Default. Bring that shit over to NA and I'll buy 2 copies.

Vita at 6k? Lord, it's barely outselling 6 year old, dead-ass Wii. I'm still shocked at how Nintendo sweeped DQ and MH from under Sony's noses and haven't even looked back. Vita might really die.

Are you still shocked after 6 years?

Looking at Bravely Default, its interesting that a lot of new ips and underdog franchises such as Harvest Moon, Fire Emblem, etc. are pretty succesful and either sell close to or exceed past popularity heights. Meanwhile heavyweight franchises such as KH, RE, NSMB and MGS have floundered a bit. I wonder why that is.

I honestly think that last year's action of Nintendo (secure MH + price cut) caught Sony totally off guard. Their strategy that everybody will buy a Vita for MH and therefor 3rd party will follow, imploded right infront of them and they still stare at the pieces. It really seems they simply don't know what to do.

DQ is easy. It has and always will go to the best selling consoles. It never had platform allegiance (a grand total of 2/10 DQ games have been on Sony platforms)

I think that's pretty normal for systems in their first couple of years. The installed base skews towards early adopters and hardcore fans, so the response to smaller series is overrepresented.

The 3DS being rather successful so far (but yet not as wildly successful with the broader market) explains why Harvest Moon and Fire Emblem are selling more than previous entries.

Regarding KH and RE specifically, I think the former is just losing its appeal in general, while the latter didn't necessarily have the right platform demographics when it was released.

Not bad, not bad. Hopefully this means more new franchises from S-E.

PXZ is a bit disappointing but the performance of BD makes up for it.

Yea for Bravely Default :D.

JRPGs savior everybody

Well they can still be a savior just by staying alive.

Not bad at all for Bravely Default. Let's see what kind of legs it has.

Wonder what's in store next for Image Epoch. Things went downhill for them...

If Vita continues its downward spiral so quickly and say is dead next year, I seriously doubt Sony will bother entering the handheld space again...

At this point Sony probably has a better shot of just keeping the PSP alive for like 3 more years. Would probably make them more money too. Ironically releasing Vita damaged PSP sales but barely brought an extra sales as a replacement because of the lack of UMD BC. I wonder how things would have went if they had kept pushing the PSP maybe with a new revision with slightly bumped specs and a touchscreen. It's not like 3DS is that much more powerful, so it's possible they could have even shared multiplats. And who knows what would happened with Monster Hunter. Maybe Charlie's fabled 3rdG would have actually come out

Really hits home the main problem: lack of compelling games. Vita hardware sales have tapered off and fallen just behind Dreamcast, but Vita software sales are a huge disaster. And its future lineup isn't look good.

I'd love to see an in-depth look at where Sony's marketshare went with the release of the Vita. Seems like they should have kept riding the PSP for another year.

To smartphones, 3DS, neither?

Are we sure that the market really wants Vita, but just if it has games? Its launch line-up was pretty good and better than PSP's one, and still it felt after the launch week.

I could definitely see Vita being in a DC/360-like situation, where it continues to get a trickle of niche/otaku titles for a number of years despite being irrelevant (if not outright dead) in the broader market.

I can make peace with that. <Crossing fingers and hoping for moneyhats>

Seeing as niche/otaku titles was what kept me playing my PSP, with a small amount of trepidation, I'm okay with this.

I honestly thought at least FFXHD would release this holidaywhen it was announced... How long does an HD up-port take to develop?

A good one takes some time.

Vita numbers are such a sad thing to look. Great hardware crippled by a shitty software line up.

I think Sony should give up on Japan with the Vita. Push it in the west where it got a small boost from LBP.

LBP gave no appreciable "boost." To quote someone with knowledge of the sales, "Vita saved by Madden 13 bundle" for September's NPD sales.

What's messed up is that dreamcast isn't further ahead considering the lineups

Function of Vita having a pretty good opening week, especially compared to DC, and then having the bottom drop out from there.

Still though, when I read the sales predictions for PxZ even I thought they were a little high. Not that the sales ended up pretty badly mind you, it was around what I thought it'd be.
Hope we see a third entry on the 3DS. The world needs more Haken x Kaguya sexual harassment action!
I wonder how willing Nintendo will be to lending Monolith for the 3rd game considering Monolith is supposedly hard at work at the new Wii U game. Maybe Iwata "coerces" Banpresto to speed up and release SRW 3DS before making EF3 with Monolith.

Vita, oh wow. It's doing more terribly than I ever imagined :/

I've been openly doubtful about its viability since before it was officially announced as NGP, and in almost every respect, it's failed to meet even my most pessimistic predictions, particularly with respect to Japanese third-party support; the absence of SE, Konami, and Capcom from the Vita portion of Sony's TGS conference speaks volumes. It's really something.

i think famitsu, i don't really believe MC ever tracked the dreamcast (or at least i do not remember MC dreamcast data on garaph)

01./00. [3DS] Bravely Default: Flying Fairy <RPG> (Square Enix) {2012.10.11} (¥6.090) - 141.529 / NEW

Good! Now bring it hither so I can give you my monies.

03./00. [3DS] Project X Zone <RPG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2012.10.11} (¥6.280) - 85.539 / NEW

That's one copy for every press release. I consider that a bargain!

While I agree with what you're saying and I agree that is likely the case with most of these titles. I still find it strange that titles such as fire emblem and harvest moon have reached heights they haven't achieved in over a decade. As well as S-E launching its most succesful new ip since KH.
I wonder how willing Nintendo will be to lending Monolith for the 3rd game considering Monolith is supposedly hard at work at the new Wii U game. Maybe Iwata "coerces" Banpresto to speed up and release SRW 3DS before making EF3 with Monolith.
Well monolith also went under some big expansions to where they're capable of developing Wii U and 3DS titles at the same time.

Don't imaggeepoch games always bomb?

Their game in the Fate series did okay, as I recall. God damn that's a disaster for Toki though, especially since that probably was not a cheap game to make. I hope they survive long enough to actually get Fate/Extra CCC out the door, as I liked the first one. :(

Anyway, hell yes for Bravely Default, now to hope SE North America has enough common sense to localize the mother. I'd buy the hell out of it as it feels like my 3DS is starved for compelling content.

And that's about what I expected for Project X Zone. Those big crossovers tend to do only okay but not stellar. They're aimed squarely and only at existing fans and don't have a lot of mass appeal.

And the Vita. :( Makes me even sadder given that I bought a Vita myself just the other day and I love it and there's a ton of software, out in America no less, that I want for it.
