Imagine what the Vita can do when they drop the price..

But they already dropped the price. Because we could say the same for everything: imagine what the Xbone can do if they sell it for $150. Imagine what the Wii U can do if they sell it for $75. Imagine what Blackberry can do if they give out phones and contracts for free.

If they could afford to drop the price at this point, they'd have introduced the Vita 2000 at a lower price-point.

MH4 is running out of stock again, new shipment around Oct 21. Sold out on Amazon, Bic Camera (online shops) and at most Yodobashi stores.

Black and White 3DS XL also short in supply.

It's not exactly that simple. They could very well afford to drop the price on the 2000 model but choose not to because the sales they expect to gain don't match the revenue they would lose by doing so. Its the same reason you aren't seeing price drops right now on the PS3 or the 360, somebody looks at a spreadsheet and comes to the conclusion that dropping the price isn't going to lead to enough increased sales to justify doing so.

The Vita 2000 feels to me like its trying to break that image the Vita has by intentionally making the system feel cheaper and more accessible. The new colors, the smaller form factor, the ridiculously large bezel, abandoning the proprietary USB cord, the larger buttons and even going from OLED to LCD make the system feel less like a higher end electronic device and more fun and mainstream - akin to something like Apple and the 5c.

Not sure if its going to work out but the revision was really well designed.

About as well designed as the Yinlips.

Wasn't there a 99.6% sell through the week before?

It was, but it got a new shipment. The current reported sell-through is 96%, so about 100k units in the wild.

But it's possible that the new shipment arrived at the end of the reporting period, I guess. So, before saying that it isn't supply constrained anymore, we might should wait until next week's numbers.

The Vita 2000 looks like a Chinese knock-off. Literally.

It has a cartridge slot in its disk tray?

As people have pointed out, there are positive aspects to the redesign. It's hard to tell right now how much they actually matter to consumers, but they're there nonetheless. The memory is the biggest deal.

About as well designed as the Yinlips.

Yinlips_Ydpg18_-_5_Inch_Touch_Screen_Android_Game_Console_WIFI_1080P_8G_5.gif

Does that play classics such as Submarine Invasion and Chantecleer Hedgemony?

The Vita 2000 looks pretty nice actually, I love the colour selection which should be something all tech has instead of just choices of Black, White or Silver.

When does For the Sequel come out in Japan again?

Also I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't advertise BD out here.
I remember back with DQIX, they went full out on that. Even getting Seth Green in the commercials as I recall.

Guys, I was checking Amazon JP and I noticed FFX/X-2 Vita Twin Pack seems to be sold out or something like that (my Japanese is as basic as it gets).

http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/bestsellers/videogames/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_vg_1_1#1

Can you help me understand how this works on Amz Jp? I just want to know how an item that is on pre-order and not released yet can become unavailable. Is it high demand? Pre-orders also have a limited number?

Thanks a lot!

Edit: The listing is back to normal. But I'd still appreciate any kind of explanation of how this works. Thanks!

We all know that amazon.jp charts are useless and Vita will probably go below 30k this week, but why are the new Vita models charting so high now? They are all between the 13 and the 22 position. I don't think they ever went that high before, except the day they were announced.

The power of a reskinned Fifa 11 game, I guess.

Sales aren't going up - everything above them is failing faster probably.

Yes. Some games sell through their initial preorders on Amazon long before release. If this happens, they may get an extra print run ordered prior to release, which allows more preorders to be taken.

Also keep in mind that Amazon refreshes those lists every hour.
So while best sellers on the top the list shows that there is demand for the product it is a poor way to discern how well it sells .

Aquamarine's dengeki chart shows the PSP still at 10% of all software sales for FY2013 and Vita at only 7%. That seems to support my earlier post.

No, you don't get it. You say that Vita will see big boost when the transition from PSP finally happens when that transition has almost fully happened last 2 years and Vita's benefit was the minimum. PSP's software sales will be lucky to hit 2m next year, there isn't anything more to gain from that system. The money spent on PSP software haven't moved to its successor. Numbers clearly show that (I hope an old man can see the rapid decline of PSP software last 2 years).

Holy crap software sales really took a nosedive over the past year. Is that all because big companies transition to iOS? I don't see 12 million selling in 10 weeks.

It is the holidays, but the handheld gaming share has really dropped. The Vita and PSP aren't doing well and the 3DS is still below what the DS did in its later years.

Nintendo could surprise again like they did with the DS and Wii and their gaming brands still hold a great deal of value, but I am not very optimistic about the future right now.

That's not correct yet. This year is missing the holidays, the previous 2 are full years, so it's still on par for now.

Thanks. Are the two version being ranked seperately?

The different color on the plastic around the screen on the Yinlips, and also the transparent buttons and the ridges around the analog sticks/lower buttons makes the design not look as good as the Vita-2000, in my opinion. But of course, liking a design or not, that is a 100% subjective thing :) I agree that the Vita-2000 looks a bit cheaper compared to the orignal Vita though. I think the different between iPhone 5S and 5C as darkside31337 mentioned is a good comparison. It looks cheaper, but hopefully the build quality still feels solid in both cases.

Generally speaking, some of the designs on these chinese knockoffs arent really that bad looking i think. They're usually designed quite close to the original hardware design though, so i guess that is mainly why. There is also another Vita knock-off that has two analog sticks, its called the Droid X360. I've also seen a pirated DS Lite (that plays actual DS games) that looked nearly identical to an original DS Lite at first glance. Kinda impressive how they make these things look close to the originals. The build quality on these rip-off are usually noticeably worse than the originals though, that is usually the biggest difference between the knockoffs and the originals.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
I'm still perplexed at what to expect by the Wii U bundles coming out in a little over a week- anyone with thoughts on what type of numbers we could see?

I dont know how much its being advertised, but its being released at the same date as both Wii Party U and Wii Fit U. There is also some nice added value to the bundles, and i think that the lower WiiU sales we have seen in the last two weeks is partially because someone are waiting to buy these bundles. I'm thinking 35k+.

Yeah that's..possible.

I dunno. If we had some idea on shipments for the bundles that might give us a better indication.

I really have no clue what to predict. They really are great bundles and in theory there is no reason for anyone thinking of purchasing a Wii U the last 3 weeks to get one until the 31st, but I cannot recall a value add bundle ever spurring hardware sales significantly (though I could be wrong!).

Good point, i dont know how many of these bundles that are being shipped in the first week.

True, added value of older stuff might not do that much for hardware sales, but i think since Wii Party U is bundled (and Wii Fit U as well in the other bundle), being a new game, maybe it could have a better effect. Wii Party for Wii also sold great, so its a game that many people know. Very hard to say how popular Wii Party U will be compared to Wii Party though.

For the people who aren't regulars in Media Create threads:

What is Tsutaya?
Tsutaya is a major retailer with 1,444 retail stores (613 that sell new games) all across Japan.

What is Comgnet?
Comgnet is the website for the retailer "COMG!" that has 16 retail stores across one prefecture in Japan.

Why post these rankings?
They are released three days before Media Create + Famitsu + Dengeki give us nationwide sales, so we get a general indication of how well the games will perform relative to their competition.

How accurate is Tsutaya compared to nationwide retail tracking services?
It's large enough that it gives a very probable indication of future sales rankings, but it's not large enough to be definitive.

Famitsu: ~3,600 stores
Media Create + Dengeki: >3,000 stores
Tsutaya: 613 stores
Comgnet: 16 stores

2013 Tsutaya + Comgnet Weekly Sales Archive

No surprise that Rayman Legends didn't chart in the Top 20 for Tsutaya / Comgnet this week. We could be looking at some very low numbers.

And guess what? A 360 game actually charted in the Top 20 two weeks in a row! I'm not sure if this says more about 360 software sales or how weak the retail situation is right now.

So looks like 3DS in en route to do even better than in 2012, since the Holidays season is yet to come, and Pokémon X and Y aren't taken into account here (plus some additional sales for Monster Hunter 4). And it's pretty clear now the the 3DS got most of the audience of the PSP, which compensates for the casuals leaving for more mobile pastures.

And I had forgotten how strong the DS still was when the 3DS launched.

And guess what? A 360 game actually charted in the Top 20 two weeks in a row! I'm not sure if this says more about 360 software sales or how weak the retail situation is right now.

OMG, Xbox One is sooo gonna dominate next-gen in Japan, those are the first signs!!.... Yeah, it's just GTAV by the way.

How have it started that there are two nearly identical Pokemon games launched each generation with minimally diffrent content ?

Is there some data how many people buy both versions ?

It was introduced to encourage social interaction while playing the game (trading version exclusive pokemons)

To force you to trade pokemon to catch everything. It was fundamentally envisioned as a social game.

Maybe club nintendo will give Nintendo some data on who buys both versions, but overall I don't think there's a way to know. Mostly it really isn't worth the money to buy both.

3) Pikmin 3

4) Rayman Legends

5) Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Online

I really hope Tsutaya is inaccurate when it comes to Wii U software rankings next week. If Rayman Legends doesn't make the Top 3 Wii U Software charts, it may very well debut under 1.5K.

Maybe someone will at least spill the beans if it beaten Yakuza.

Thank You.
