Do you have a version with PS3/WiiU, or WiiU/VITA? :p

I know Sony isn't goin to cut the price for at least 8 months, but could a price cut on the Vita 2000, encourage greater sales? Maybe if they position it near the same price of the 3DS XL?

It's already near the price of the 3DS XL?

Thank you. Adds some perspective to this weeks bump.
The Vita isn't the PSP, so expectations were much, much lower. 60k is super impressive, even if it doesn't necessarily mean the Vita is suddenly at mainstream level like the PSP was once the PSP-2000 launched.

So now that we're in Wii U limbo mode, I'm betting that Wii U will break the 2K barrier on at least one tracker next week.

No new releases? The lull between bundles? What a perfect time to consistently venture into record-low territory. :p

Kind of weird Nintendo announced those bundles so early. I mean, I'm happy as I was about to buy a Wii U when they did, but not good for their sales at all.

Can't wait for my Wii U w three games... Although I was at Bic Camera the other day and only saw preorders for the two game bundle.

Wow! Congrats to Vita for reaching that number. Seems like the new model did wonders for the sales despite launching the same week as Pokemon. Let's hope that they keep it up.

Pokemon is a beast, and 3DS outsold everything as expected.

Wii U is pretty much at it's lowest ever and doesn't have anything coming out until November as far as I know. I'm not even sure if the bundles will do any good for it this week. We'll have to wait and see. Nintendo must be pretty happy that they have those 3DS numbers at least.

I would really like to be a fly on the wall at Nintendo's offices. This thing is fucking tanking, and they don't seem to be reacting all that much. It's fucking WIERD.

Ive read a few remarks in other threads how the Wii U is getting "good word of mouth", which, as i anticipated is nothing more than manufactured hope packaged and presented as facts.

Wind Waker did nothing, but really what HD port has done all that well? MGS HD collection did not set charts on fire, neither did God of War or any one of them. Consumers are not that dumb, they know these are older games

Next 2 weeks might get slightly worse for Wii U but after that, and after the holiday season starts kicking in, surely we wont see 3k numbers for a while. Things will pick up, just by the sheer nature of the holiday season when everything picks up.

The Vita 2000 and XL are already only like 10 bucks apart.

Well, you want ample time to get the word out that you have an attractive bundle coming, I don't think announcing it like the week before would be very smart.

I'd be surprised if the WiiU manages to sell more than 10k this year at any given week. And I'm not even trolling here, I simply don't expect anyone to be interested in it, given the release schedule ahead.

Hasn't the God of War collection sold something along the lines of 2.5 million worldwide?

How much more could they do? Remaining within the realms of reason and possibility. Are they going to make some sort of Vita TV for the system?

When PSP-2000 came out in 2007, weekly sales of PSP in Japan jumped from 99K to 263K, a 165% change.

PSP-3000 rose PSP sales from 20K to 156K.

PSP GO rose PSP sales from 40K to 71K.

It's not all that unthinkable for PSV-2000 sales to rise from 4K to 59K.

It does assume though that the 3DS and PSV ecosystems are relatively separate from one another, and Pokemon's / 3DS's dominance doesn't really change the amount of people who would be interested in the Vita.

Unless I'm mistaken, PSP's weekly sales dropped below 100K again two weeks after the PSP-2000's release. PSP-3000 had a more lasting effect.

It did

God of War II 2,527,522 113,280 1,603,727 4,244,529
God of War III 2,818,033 417,866 1,961,733 5,197,632
God of War Collection 1,748,663 155,600 514,253 2,418,516
God of War: Chains of Olympus 1,728,407 136,478 1,399,293 3,264,178
God of War: Ghost of Sparta 530,815 60,429 605,382 1,196,626
God of War: Origins 424,464 47,336 239,937 711,737

Guess that renders my point moot, some HD collections do sell well. Japan does not care about Zelda? I hope that is only console related and LBW does well

Yeah, this is pretty much guaranteed to happen.

Considering that this week was flooded with big releases on other consoles, the PSV drop-off might not be too bad in the next couple of weeks.

It's not weird though. Iwata is after profits and getting the best and most out of the 3DS at the moment is a much better venture.

You get desensitized to it after a while when you have management intensely focused in on a specific time for Wii U sales to bounce back.

The issue is that that window of opportunity is shrinking. We're already in mid-October...the Wii U should be doing better by now. The original plan for redemption was the 2nd half of the calendar year (August through December). We're now more than half-way through that and the console is still as dead as ever.

It's since been pushed back to the 2nd half of the fiscal year (October through March) ...management always needs to keep morale up for this kind of thing.

Quick comments:

1. How close was Pokemon and Monster Hunter 4 week 1?? Crazy.
2. GTAV did way better than GTAIV. Looks like it'll be the best selling western game in Japan this gen.
3. Wii U :(

Thread moves too quickly these days, will go back and read posts now.

Console numbers are so depressing.

PS3 has hit saturation at that price point for months now .

Unless Sony is willing to drop the price it is going to stay there.

Then again .PS4 is relatively close .so they might not bother at all with the price.

Is the perspective that the Vita doesn't sell as well as the PSP or that handhelds in general don't sell as well as they used to? Because i think we already knew both of those things.

Thats clearly not what the OP was trying to show was it. He was simply showing that new PSP models saw healthy bumps, even the flop which the PSP GO was.

guess 60k peoples OLED screen has fucked up and they needed a new vita

That the PSV is a worthwhile system is beyond comprehension?

In addition to some awesome colors
dat fluorescent yellow :D
, the revision reduces weight and adds comfort - from the impressions I've heard.

Whenever 3DS hits a peak of sorts; must be them flopping hinges and self mutilating screens, eh? :p

Yeah, but there are things beyond profits that having a platform tank effect. Image, retailer confidence, etc.

There's Rayman... Yeah. Let's see how well it will end this. lol

And the week after is Sonic! Man, Wii U is saved.

I am really surprised at the 3DS numbers tbh. It's Pokemon week in JP. I expected a much bigger bump than that. DS it is not.

Well, I know that the bundles will boost sales slightly and that 3DWorld could do even much more, but it's not just sales I'm annoyed about; the fact that they got in this situation without even thinking that it would come to this is naive and stupid. They deserve these bad sales, yes I like a bunch of games on the system, but still it seems like a rushed clusterfuck :lol

I know I've said this a lot of times and I know that it's harder to compete within the homeconsole space because of PlayStation, but man: the company that handles the 3DS seems to be a different one that handles the Wii U

This reminds me of discussion during E3 of people saying Nintendo was focusing solely on the Wii U and left the 3DS alone. Fast forward about 3-4 months later, and the only notable releases so far for the Wii U is Pikmin, Zelda, and W101, with only Pikmin making any sort of dent, and the 3DS getting Mon Hun 4 and Pokemon X/Y.

Nintendo and everyone else knows where they can make their money.

As for the Vita and its hardware refresh, its great, especially when the Vita was trending so low, but I doubt it can keep that momentum.

There was already a big jump with MH4 though. Maybe a lot of those people that bought a 3DS for MH4 were also planning on getting Pokemon a few weeks later.

Completely true. It's just such an extreme lack of foresight on their part.

Pokemon is a monster. That one's gotta have a long tail, right? I wonder where that'll end up.

GTA gaddamn. For a Western game too.

Dat Vita bump. Obviously can't last but I bet it'll average out the anemic numbers for the past few weeks.

Well, DS sold around 274k when Diamond/Pearl launched (granted that was all they could ship but still, lol). I don't think you understand how massive a 200k+ week is outside of the holidays.

I'd say that was evidence that it was exactly the same company. The 3DS launch was shit in pretty much the same ways. The only difference is that they were able to take drastic measures to turn it around to a degree. I can't see that happening with the Wii U.

Well I'm eating delicious Vita flavored crow. Still don't expect the baseline to increase over 10k, but good for it. Wii U is still a complete disaster. 3DS doing what is expected.

Also 3DS 2013>3DS 2012

I think 3DS is about to have a pretty huge holiday WW. I've noticed so many people talking about getting one for themselves and kids with Pokemon.

I think we're going to see a long tail with both Pokemon and MH4 released. We're going to see high five figures as the base for the rest of the year, instead of the 40,000 it was straggling around most of the year for the 3DS and its variants.

I don't know if it has already been addressed in this thread, but will see separated 3DS and 2DS numbers in this sales figures going forward or will it always just be "3DS"?

Oh right...Rayman Legends...how on Earth could I ever forget Rayman Legends for the Wii U.

2K barrier it is. :p

It hurts internally as well. This is just my anecdotal experience, but I privately spoke to an employee affiliated with Nintendo who told me that he didn't want to develop for the Wii U because "no one would get to play my game if it came out for that system."

Of course, the company has to keep a squeaky-clean, incessantly positive image for the outside world to get constantly reassured. But don't think everyone is content with Wii U's sales issues.
