Wait...why wouldn't it mean much? o_0 It'd mean GE2 is moving a lot of Vitas.
Because it's anecdotal. Though it's guaranteed Vita will see a bump from GE2.
Wait...why wouldn't it mean much? o_0 It'd mean GE2 is moving a lot of Vitas.
Anecdotal stuff. Doesn't really reveal anything on a broader level. That's what I mean. =)

Well, while true that Nintendo is running out of playing cards, Vita sales aren't going to improve just because of that. The same could be argued for the Vita anyway. What next after Freedom Wars?
What cards have they played exactly outside of NSMBU? Mario 3D World will be the only "real" card since a year ago now. W101 and Pikmin 3 were never expected to carry the system. $50 price drop is a scratch.

It's going to be a weird situation when the Vita is selling more weekly than it does monthly in other territories. I'm sure Vita will get some more software support, but with the switch to mobile and the lack of attention even the 3DS gets, it's really hard to see a real revitilization in terms of software. It seems strange to me Sony is not launching Vita TV in the west this year. It basically seems like they are letting Vita die further in the west when they have a card to play

Talking about 3DS there, champ. They've fired off all Marios, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, even a Monster Hunter, and Zelda very soon. Smash Brothers is the last big box-tick for Big Nintendo Bullet Bills, I guess, other than another Pokemon.
In West I think Sony has already pretty much gave up. At least they are saving money by not putting any effort or whatsoever to it. Instead they are concentrating on PS4/3, which makes perfect business sense...
No. Kirby is a million seller and so is Mario Party (including the DS entry). Unless Zelda takes off like Phantom Hourglass, you'll also have plenty of other games that could keep up with it saleswise in the future.

I was going back to the older media create threads and realized that until Christmas 2011, the Wii was actually fairly well supported by third parties in Japan.
I think it's about 2 years too early to talk about any portable successor from any first party.
Vita needed a GTA really, and a fresh feeling one despite needing to reuse 4's assets. Some must have game the west obsesses over (a far better COD may have done a good trick too) to justify anyone owning the device. Unfortunately ALL of Rockstar was working on V, so theres no satellite that could have even made it as their development circles the insane 1000 member gang. Bioshock never materialising was another nonsense moment too.
Yeah it is really early. I guess another question I wanted to get at is what can Nintendo do to keep the 3DS fairly steady over the next couple of years, and would it be wise to divert some of the resources they were going to use on Wii U back to 3DS.
So do people think there is any chance the "4DS" launches late 2015?
I think it's about 2 years too early to talk about any portable successor from any first party.
I think 2DS could help a lot in sustaining momentum in Japan in late 2014-all 2015. However, we still don't know the entire first and third party lineup for next year. Iwata stated that first party lineup will still be filled with lots of content; I'm curious to see how much.
Oh i think Bioshock will arrive in some form.
At this point it is similar case to Killzone E3 trailer for PS3 where it's point of honor for Sony to deliver on promise.

The 3DS has a big userbase already so the focus moving forward shouldn't necessarily be on major system selling software (though that obviously helps) but on providing a steady stream of both first and third party content. Honestly they should be more worried about the West (and WiiU) than Japan.Yeah it is really early. I guess another question I wanted to get at is what can Nintendo do to keep the 3DS fairly steady over the next couple of years, and would it be wise to divert some of the resources they were going to use on Wii U back to 3DS.

They've gone through their major franchises. They have Kirby, Yoshi's Island, and Smash as potential biggees next year, so they could be referring to that. (Majora's Mask re-release wouldn't be bad, either.) There's also a chance in the world of DLC to do something crazy like release Mario Kart 7 DLC racing packs and then release a "Mario Kart 7 Complete" for more easy sales without a ton of work. If Luigi's Mansion Wii U turns into a real thing, then we may also be seeing the start of 3DS/Wii U cross-developing after DKC: Returns on 3DS from Wii. Super Mario 3D Land 2 doesn't seem out of the question for 2015, too. There were two (real) Super Mario Lands on GameBoy. Retail compilation of 3DSWare games might warrant release, as well. Already seen Art Academy 3DS from the DSiWare games. Maybe a Pushmo/Crashmo compilation release?
I don't think it's too early to talk about a handheld successor from Sony.
Or rather, I don't think it's too early to talk about how there won't be one.
Honestly. 3DS is not iPadYeah, I'd give the 3DS about 2-3 more years of attention before rumblings of a successor is hinted at.
Not really entirely up to Sony with this one. Same scenario as Resident Evil PSP really, which is extra sour because it seems Capcom went out of their way to not do Revelaitons on Vita.
Beyond Mahvel, Capcoms absolute contempt for Vita is kind of amazing. I felt sure they'd try and repurpose Dragons Dogma into a smaller hunting game, carving out areas and recolouring Drakes, but thats before we get shit like "cant afford to develop a SFV, lol" and that bottom of the bucket DD card smartphone game thing. Hell, that Lost Planet 2 Vita tech demo is absolutely bizarre in hindsight.
If we're talking about sequels, I think another Fire Emblem is almost a certainty.
I would not be opposed to buying the game and all the DLC for an Awakening 2 on 3DS.
I don't think that would be a wise thing to do. 3DS still got a lot of software, both first and third parties and it's the market leader with ease. I think they should keep doing what they are doing with it. Divert the resources of the wiiu is assuming the console is a failure and letting it die. They don't need to do that yet.Yeah it is really early. I don't really think Nintendo needs to do much to keep the 3DS going. They haven't stopped developing games on it, and third parties are still supporting it pretty strongly. In 2015 there might be rumblings of a new portable system from Nintendo, but I'll be surprised if there's anything even hinted at before that.
My prediction is that 3DS' successor will be released in late 2016, so three years from now. The latest I can think of is Q1 2017, but I suppose they wouldn't like to lose the Holiday frenzy like they did with 3DS.
...Obviously, if launching in late 2016 means having another Wii U situation, it's much better to wait for Q1 2017, but that's another story XD

So do people think there is any chance the "4DS" launches late 2015? We're already looking at a decline next year when they will launch Smash, Yoshi, Kirby, and Mario Party. They'll probably reveal 2-3 more games for the year as well (3D Land 2? and possibly DQ11 with 3rd parties). Then you get to 2015 and it will probably be a steeper decline. They could launch a Pokemon remake but I doubt Gen 7 is ready until 2016 at the earliest and they could always just cross gen it. I guess it depends if Nintendo is ok with the decline they'll be facing in the next few years especially with probably not much good news from Wii U. It seems pretty early but that would be almost 5 years and it would be 5 years if it was early 2016. The next few years from Nintendo will be very interesting.
Borderlands 2 is a port job though. Unless Bioshock Vita turns into a quick port as well do you really think Sony's going to fund it after ignoring it this long? It's not COD and they didn't even invest for a Declassified sequel.Well Sony would have to pay for outsourcing Bioshock development but if they are doing it for Borderlands 2 then why not Bioshock for 2015.
As for Capcom I still laught when i remember what they did with Re:R and how they got well deserved sales on Wii U
Whelp, Wii U collapsed

I think they should keep doing what they are doing with it. Divert the resources of the wiiu is assuming the console is a failure and letting it die. They don't need to do that yet.
In a couple of years, if the wiiu don't get better...

Moving the goalposts?
You need to rewind to when the Vita was announced and people said it was going to blow the 3DS away.
Suddenly from that we now have a system which isnt anywhere close to its competitor and in any given week has only outsold the 3DS like 3 times since release yet that has now turned into Vita is doing great.
Say the 3DS sales were 50% of what they are now but it was still the #1 selling system would people be saying 3DS is doing great? The 3DS would be getting flamed and rightly so.
The one place on earth where handhelds should sell well is Japan. If 20k 30k a week is great then yes the bar has been decreased dramatically.
The Wii U selling poorly are irrelevant to the sales performance of the Vita.
These are man tears I am shedding. The Vita isn't selling well. It's not even pulling mediocre sales. It's selling terribly.
Thing is, most people counted it out long ago and there was much talk of discontinuation. There was a time when a run of 20k+ weeks was a pipe dream. Next week might be the biggest the Vita has ever seen and it comes at a time when the 3DS is still riding high from the MonHun / Pokemon launches.
The fact that it's still standing in the ring blindly throwing weak punches (like a Champion) is the source of any positivity. It ain't that it's particularly alive, it's more that it's not dead. It's the plucky underdog that just won't go down.
