Really wonder where Vita would have been this year without Minecraft. It's pretty much keeping Vita alive.
So the Smash Direct in December is the final one.
In the last direct, there was also a statement that there'd be more Splatoon content "until at least January", implying that the content might stop (or get notably less significant) after that point.
I get the sense they're ramping production on the sequels around that time, and want anyone working on DLC to move over.
Nintendo doesn't have any other service games with outstanding DLC at that point either, right?
How many Nintendo bombas this quarter ? Zelda underperformed, Poké Dungeon did as well and Amii Crossing did too. And now, M&L is also on the list.

Sakurai is going to need a long vacation, and I don't know if they have anyone willing or capable of heading a project of that magnitude (and also one that the fans would accept). Whereas I think Splatoon will be seeing a sequel in a year or so, giving it a solid two year gap between release and buffed up sequel.
A definitive edition port would buy them a few years, and give Sakurai some time off while the engineers work on souping up the engine and generating assets.

Nintendo really dominated this year.
Huge Monster Hunter X numbers - and it's supply constrained as well. The game is gonna outsell Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, and might approach Monster Hunter 4... The IP is really making bank on 3DS. Mario & Luigi bombed hard - worse debut ever for the sub-franchise - AlphaDream could start working on something else, after all.
Yo-Kai Watch Busters increase is crazy - the game might reach 2m units, which is pretty good considering the sales of the mainline series. Splatoon and Super Mario Maker are also showing nice increases.
3DS software showing some holiday legs: Disney Magic World 2, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, Sumikko Gurashi 2, Rhythm Heaven: The Best+.
Amazed about the super-poor performance of Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon - as already said, the game bombed hard during the first period but I thought it could have caught up a bit as holidays were approaching. Instead, it seems struggling to sell 300k.
Hw-wise, 3DS is keeping up with last year's pace, which wasn't that obvious given the N3DS launch. At this point, 20m units don't look as farfetched as they were in October.
Wii U Minecraft is coming soon though. It is going to be interesting whether that will cut short of Vita Minecraft leg there.
None of Nintendo's asset reuse-heavy spinoffs have really worked out well for them, unless you count HHD. Splatoon continues to be their workhorse while those come and go.
Even if I did miss the point, I wouldn't rule out a PS4 exclusive Monster Hunter 5 (which will never happen anyway so a mute point really).I think you kinda missed his point which was about FF and DQ being bigger than MH on home consoles (which is most likely true), not FF and DQ being bigger on home consoles than on handhelds.
It won't. The Vita is a better offer for a Minecraft machine.
Zelda:TFH is doing fine. It is entirely recycled outside of some costume/NPC assets.
I am not really sure here. I feel Wii U owners would be more on the family friendly demographics vs Vita owners.
So i can see Minecraft doing really well on Wii U. But i do wonder whether they come out a bit too late already here.T_T
More than anything, this has been a year of bad spin-offs of random properties and Mario spin-offs.
Well, with Amiibo Festival, they were obviously hoping the Happy Home Designer lightning would strike twice. And it didn't pan out that way.

What do kids want more though, Minecraft on the go or Minecraft+Splatoon at home?Vita is mobile, and kids want the game on the go.
My assumption has been that they're just going to hand it off to someone else at some point.
Nintendo is at the point where succession planning is a big topic for most of their franchises.

Mobile being more popular in Japan doesn't always gurantee better handheld versus console game sales. For another family friendly western brand look at how the Lego games do on Wii U and Vita. Not to say I think Minecraft will do better on Wii U, it won't for many reasons but I'm not sure it not being mobile is really one of them.

Well in Japan, so i agree with your sentiment there but is there any difference between Wii U Mcraft vs Vita's? Who know the possible Amiibo integration is with like Splatoon is going to sway the kids?
The best selling DQ is IX.FF and DQ is bigger on home consoles.
The best selling DQ is IX.
Have you played either?
Everyone that I've listened to said they enjoyed the latter.

Now you're missing the point! I was responding to a hypothetical with a hypothetical.I'm really not sure where you want to go with that post. Will never happen but you wouldn't rule it out?
What are the odds they let Namco take the reins in the future?
They obviously have fighting game expertise and Smash Bros 4 seems to have worked really well(not to mention other collabs like Pokken and Wii Sports Club).

There were similar statements about Splatoon around the summer update. I think Nintendo will keep supporting the game as long as the playerbase is there. Activision has studios dedicated to Call of Duty DLC, it would not surprise me if Nintendo handled division of labor between Splatoon 1 DLC, Splatoon 2 core development, and Splatoon 2 DLC similarly. So the Smash Direct in December is the final one.

Yes, it sold 7k first week.

Wow at Mario and Weegee: Bomba Jam, Just Bomb: Youkai Flop edition, Animal Bombing: amiibo Flopstival doing bad....good. Thank the bundles Splatoon is that high, wouldn't be that way without them and will likely not have reached a million retail by the end of the year without them. But Mario Maker has a chance at being the holiday star if it keeps going up like that, wonder if it can beat Splatoon by selling most this holiday..... Wii U bump is meh, wonder if PS4 will move much next week. Those Wii U and 3DS discrepancies between trackers. Dengeki will provide us with the real answers. Big difference with Splatoon and Mario Maker between trackers too. Dengeki is...our only Hope!
Very interested in seeing how Genei Ibunroku sharp/hashtag/pound FE does.
That might be, but it doesnt seem that they want to try, nor have anything coming soon. Porting old stuff probably wont sell well either. They did release Ken's Rage 2 for WiiU (also a Musou game), but it flopped big time.I wouldn't really have hurt Koei to try though.
We've had multiple insiders saying it will including Verendus. So I'd say it's certainly a possibility.
4U sold a million in the west. MH already has a sizable presence here on 3DS, they don't really "need" consoles for that. And they kind of need to if they want a presence in the west. It'd probably bomb in jpn tho, although cross play might perk things up there. Man, we need some NX leaks.

I wonder how Mario Tennis is going to do.
Looking through the credits page, the vast, vast majority of the design staff for Super Smash Bros 4 was from Namco: http://www.mobygames.com/game/wii-u/super-smash-bros-for-wii-u/credits
If you click on their names, you can see what they worked on previously. There are several from Kid Icarus and the rest did stuff like Tales, Soul Caliber, Gundam, Ace Combat, and Tekken.
There are also a few random other people who either just joined (or worked on games that never got credits submitted to MobyGames, think niche Japanese titles that might not have been localized), and a couple others from Nintendo.

Captain Toad did very well for what it was, and may well have opened the floodgates for some of these titles.
Nintendo should be ashamed of themselves releasing those two games. Couldn't they have combined budget and teams to make a proper version of either game?
Boggles my mind that they would rather have two shitty games than one proper one. How ever much these games sold, I hope they sold far less. I want Nintendo to know how much they fucked with with these two games.
Nintendo struck gold with Splatoon.
When is the last time we saw Metroid, F Zero, Star Fox... (I honestly dont know about Star Fox or F Zero)
