Rick Owens line is as unappealing as it gets for me, except a couple leather jackets I've seen
Everything I've ever seen from him seems to point to him having a fundamental misunderstanding of how clothes hang on a human.

Oh, and he likes black a lot because ideas and stuff.

Absolute chancer.

Or that his vision is to challenge how clothes traditionally hang on a human

I've heard that Pistol Lake's henleys are amazing. They're made in the USA and they're pretty reasonably priced, only thing is they're on backorder right now so if you buy one you won't get it until the first week of April.

I own two henleys (1x short sleeve and long sleeve) from Pistol Lake. I like it a lot, and the quality is nice.

Unfortunately, they're a size too small on me, so I've only worn them once.

Edit: I just tried them on. Not as small as I thought, just looks too form-fitting and doesn't compliment my doughy body. I don't have the best body to show off lol.

He failed the challenge

C'mon guys, I don't think this is the place for random hate. Certain people enjoy certain aesthetics, it doesn't mean that its bad or wrong. Heck, we're talking about art at the end of the day.

Also you guys might be surprised with some of Rick Owens stuff! He makes some pretty cool "elevated" basics that would actually fit into a lot of more traditional wardrobes. Check out his double layer tees, cargo pants, and Ramones sneakers.

When it comes to undershirts what color should I be wearing with a Black or Grey V-Neck? I'm trying to figure out what I should buy because I recently got a few Cardigans and V-Neck sweaters that I like, but wearing my usual undershirts causes them to stick out of the neck and make it look messy.

Also, (And I apologize if this is OT) does anybody know if it is possible to get the sleeves shortened on a blazer and how much it might cost to do so at a tailor? I bought a blazer that is too long in the sleeves and past its return date and am curious if there's anything that can be done to it.

Yeah, he's probably actually a visionary genius that narrow minded simpletons just don't get.

Eh, one could post a pic of some crazy outfit that Thom Browne sent down the runway but its not indicative of Thom's general style.

While Rick isn't my thing (neither is pinned jeans *barf*) he did pretty much invent the asymmetrical leather jacket in the 90's which is what got him noticed in the first place.

I'm not a huge fan of Rick Owens, but I don't know how you can have even a passing interest in fashion and not see how outlandish designers like he and others end up filtering down and influencing the mainstream.

I wasn't hating, yes I was being negative about it but it was obviously more in jest then anything I'm not judging anyone who prefers his style

But I agree with you, we should keep negativity out of this thread

I mean, do we have to have the cerulean blue conversation in this thread too? Thought that was limited to the fashion week ones

Throw enough shit against the wall and some of it is bound to stick.

C'mon dude, this is some pretty basic shit. Runway shows are supposed to a pure execution of an idea, like an abstract painting attempting to portray a particular emotion or concept. They aren't representative of the clothes the designer sells to the public, except that they may share a motif, idea, or feeling.

Your opinion is very much that of every other internet doofus who clearly doesn't give a shit about fashion, yet attempts to comment on it without any actual intention to understand it. It's really unnecessary.

I get the idea of catwalks as a showcase for ideas but when those ideas consistently boil down to "boxy, ill-fitting, I dunno, um, black?" it's hard to get too excited by it.

I get that Paramore is music but it consistently boils down to "pop, punk, I dunno, um, cute red haired lead singer?" It's hard to get excited about it.

I know, I know. But come on, only on a gaming forum will you have someone criticizing one of the most influential and prolific designers of our generation as having a fundamental misunderstanding of how clothes look on people. I am not even a Rick Owens fan, I have never owned a piece of his but I would never downplay what he has done in the fashion industry.

but one could argue his influence wasn't necessarily a good thing also, it's all subjective

Yes, because posters on gaming forums are renowned as keen followers of fashion designers and their influence on the industry at large.

I'm not downplaying it, I'm sure he's had a big impact, I just find his stuff not only dull, monochrome and devoid of meaningful ideas but frankly ugly.

Exactly.

I feel like calling GAF a gaming forum is selling it a little short. Sure it was it's first and probably still main function, but it's got one of the biggest Off Topic's on the internet iirc. I'm sure there are lots of people here with no interest in videogames

This is also true, I rarely play games anymore, I usually post on off topic if anywhere.

But to suggest that "only on a video game forum" would someone not only know who Rick Owens is but critique his work is a nonsense. That's one of the last places most would expect it!

Well I don't care what you consider it, but informed on the field of fashion it is not. Saying it is all subjective while simultaneously saying his designs lack fundamental understanding, lack ideas, is dull...what? Complete ignorance, not surprisingly. As this isn't exactly a thread about high fashion, more so your everyday fast fashion but if you are going to come out and criticize someone like Rick Owens, please do some research you might actually find he has designed a lot stuff you like. He has made thousands of pieces, to paint him with a single stroke is an injustice.

What's a nice looking cheap watch that doesn't make loud ticking noises? I was gonna buy a Timex Weekender but then I realized it becomes quite a distraction in quiet rooms.

What's you definition of a cheap watch? And is there a certain style you're after?

Does this line up with your tastes for $150? Link

How much do selvedge jeans stretch?

I picked up a pair from Uniqlo, and it's a bit tight on the waist, but I'm hoping it stretches to a more comfortable level with continuous wear.

I can button it with no problem, but it just feels snug on my hips and crotch.

Depends more on the weave of the denim fabric. That being said I don't have any experience with Uniqlo jeans. Do they have any stretch fabric woven in?
