I wonder if the entire player payroll of the whole MLS adds up to 60m a year.No club in MLS is paying him 60m a year.

And yet, I could care less and the mans never been a blip on my radar. Its strange that people take sports ball so seriously. These people move balls around well thats for sure, but they aren't really special. School kids do the same thing to the end result, ball goes in the hole.Ah okay.
Well just to put this in perspective, basically Messi is mathematically the most special human being alive right now, in terms of the fact that he's the best of the all time in the most engaged with activity/profession in the world.
So it is a very significant event when he is forced to leave a club which he has been at since he's a child, because of incompetent book keeping and mismanagement.
He asked, I answered. Maybe I misread the room there, sorry.Cute, no one cares about your life. This isn’t a thread for you.
PSG are locks to sign him, especially now that financial fair play is no longer a “thing”. Apparently the negotiations are already done and an announcement is in the wings.
Never going to happen. He earns double what the highest PL earners make.premier league please
You clearly don't get it saying it involves no skill a kids game lol get the fuck out of hereAnd yet, I could care less and the mans never been a blip on my radar. Regular working class people score far more goals for society but they don't get an equal reward and they keep doing it, those people are truly special. Screw sports stars.

The attachment to sports ball teams is just so strange to me. Maybe MLB just soured me too much on sports teams.
Still, soccer is so silly. I had to do it in highschool. It's a kids game, shouldn't be a multi-billion dollar industry for adults... again, I just don't get it... however well whatever person can make the ball go in the hole they aren't worth millions to me.
Poor Memphis
Edit: now with video
They can save their energy for it as the leagues a joke.if PSG with donnarumma, hakimi, sergio ramos, marquinhos, wijnaldum, verrati, icardi, di maria, mbappe, neymar and messi cant win the champions league .. might as well delete the club
PSG did manage to lose a one horse race last season. They can save their energy for it as the leagues a joke.
Lol true but lille have been raped in windowPSG did manage to lose a one horse race last season.
It’s always sad, but inevitable, when a team that’s not a traditional powerhouse manages to achieve something and then gets picked apart. Hope they spend whatever money they got well, but the French teams are so desperate for money right now that I imagine they got ripped off.Lol true but lille have been raped in window
Soccer has always been silly. I don't understand the fascination with it.
To see what he is really capable of? He is the greatest ever and he has proven that consistently his entire career. There are no unanswered questions here. He'll end up at PSG and still look good because it's a shit amateur league. I'd love to see him go to a Premier League team (Even if it's Shitty), to see what he's really capable of.
The old argument of Ronaldo Vs Messi, Ronaldo has proved himself in 3 different leagues. Let's see if Messi can perform on a cold, wet night in Stoke.

People are always going to have different criteria and one person’s will contradict another’s. I’ve seen other people make that case, that Ronaldo is better than Messi because Ronaldo succeeded at various clubs whereas Messi just stayed at one. But I’ve also seen people say Messi is better than Ronaldo because he stayed at one club whereas Ronaldo went to others to chase success. He'll end up at PSG and still look good because it's a shit amateur league. I mean I gave you a chance dude. Your oversimplification strawman view of the sport could be applied to any profession. And yet, I could care less and the mans never been a blip on my radar. Also, Messi has destroyed enough English teams for it to be clear that Stoke wouldn’t exactly be a problem.
Messi was pretty clear at that conference that he doesn't want to leave Barca.
Barca have made it clear that they want to keep him.
So, why doesn't Messi take a large pay cut to stay at Barca?

He could have played for free and Barcelona's finances are so fucked that it wouldn't have solved the problem. With Messi on the books their wage to turnover ratio is 115%. Not paying him brings it down to 95%. Barcelona need to hit 70%. They're financially fucked. Yet they still signed more players this window.Messi was pretty clear at that conference that he doesn't want to leave Barca.

Because he already did and it still wasn't enough, and asking a professional footballer to play for free is completely ridiculous.

I think everyone knew Barcelona were operating in a bit of a bubble with Messi and him moving on would mean a lot of restructuring because the club revolves around him so much. But the extent to which they are melting down is pretty mad. I've seen people comparing them to Leeds in 2001. Guys like Griezmann, Dembele and Coutinho are on obscene wages. Who knows, maybe they'll somehow turn it around. Barcelona and Real Madrid seem to work on different rules than others. Barcelona have still been spending like the rules don't apply to them.Well, in that case then it looks like there was really no solution as I wouldn't expect him to play for free.
I'm actually not surprised at the state of the finances of Barca and Real. Their wage budgets are truly outrageous and have been for some time. It's little wonder they (and Juve) are still holding onto to the idea of a European Superleague.
Well, in that case then it looks like there was really no solution as I wouldn't expect him to play for free.
He's old now, he's already won every award that exists, he even won an actual tournament with Argentina. He has literally nothing to prove now, so he'll just go somewhere and get a lot of money for his last few years before retirement. Pro sports is a business and it's good business, that's all.Messi was pretty clear at that conference that he doesn't want to leave Barca.
Barca have made it clear that they want to keep him.

But he’ll be playing in the richest club in a farmers’ league. Ronaldo made it in the EPL.Haha he's finally left the comfort of the club he's played for for all his life.
And people still say he's better than Cristiano Ronaldo even though Ronaldo has been at several clubs in different countries and excelled at each one of them. Messi has only ever performed well at Barcelona.
Now comes the part where we see if he can actually perform to the same level or better at a different club. This for me is the difference between a great play and a legend.
True. The gap is going to get bigger between PSG and the rest of that league. But he’ll be playing in the richest club in a farmers’ league. Ronaldo made it in the EPL.
As I said above, Barcelona's finances are so fucked that Messi could play for free and it wouldn't solve the issue. Also, Spanish law prohibited him from taking a bigger paycut anyway.Messi is close to a billionaire but wont take a discount to stay with Barca and will instead cry? Bullshit, not a Barce fan, not a Messi fan, but facts are if Messi wanted to be with Barce he could, don't give me your million dollar tears.
You wouldn’t consider someone like Maldini to be a legend? Now comes the part where we see if he can actually perform to the same level or better at a different club. This for me is the difference between a great play and a legend.
I definitely rate Maldini. My initial post was comparing Messi to Ronaldo. You wouldn’t consider someone like Maldini to be a legend?
Average?Messi was the best in the world 10 years ago when Barcelona was the best club in the world.
nowdays he’s just an average player and a master cry bully with referees (but that is just club tradition).
Let him go to China so he can still look good playing semi amateurs, any other move will tarnish his legacy.

Leicester winning the league wasn’t your feel good story? He's going to PSG and I now renounce all interest in soccer. (Yeah, i know it's called football, i lived in Europe for 10 years before my 15th birthday, this is how little i give a toss about it now)
It's not like this killed my interest, i somehow stopped caring as soon as liverpool won their title, like i got the ultimate good news story that i'd been waiting for and it couldn't be topped or something, but now that messi's gone to a moneybags club instead of taking a fucking wage hit... yeah, cbf
fuck it all
All those stats for a lousy copa del Rey… but of course he’s above average I’ll give you that… decisive? Not since a few years at least.Average?
calm down johnny boy you’re sounding like a maniachahahaha... wait.... hahahahahaha
He's playing in a Barcelona team that's a bit of a mess. But he's still performing at an elite level. I don't get how you can look at those stats and think that's not a decisive player. I think comparing players is a difficult thing to do and is often pretty subjective based on whatever criteria you want to use. But if your argument is that you think Lionel Messi isn't that great then you're just objectively wrong. All those stats for a lousy copa del Rey… but of course he’s above average I’ll give you that… decisive? Not since a few years at least.
truly the goatAverage?
Haven't given a shit about football fanboyism for a decade mate, Leicester was great too, Liverpool not even my favourite team, i just liked watching klopp's inevitable march to the title, i accurately predicted the effectiveness of each of his signings, it was fun to see all my predictions turn out right, fluhLeicester winning the league wasn’t your feel good story?
The bin dippers, who spend more money on players and wages than 99% of other clubs world wide, who are sponsored by a money laundering terrorist supporting bank was your ultimate good news story?
Whatever
