The mods are doing a fantastic job with COWAD-19 (Console Warrior Disease), and really slowing the spread to manageable levels. Remember to keep practicing social distancing from retards.

With that said, I do wonder if an Xbox Series X vs. PS5 (Console warring goes here and nowhere else) OT would help?

It could get all that frustrated nerd rage out, and wrap them up in endless arguments, so they’re less likely to do it elsewhere. Plus, I’d prefer to see them get this out of their system healthily, without taking bans. Some decent people are being infected by this thing.

We do have the speculation thread, but I don’t think that should have ever have become a containment thread (normal people try to read, unaware, and near hit rage mode from the amount of stupidity), and publicly earmarking a particular thread for this could be a little more successful.

Unfortunately, no.

It’s bugged (or was bugging) me a lot more this time, though. Not sure if they’ve amped up to a whole new level, or the 8 years or so break from console warring due to the PS4 basically KOing the Xbox One in round 1, wore down my patience for it.

Discussion was calm and fun for so long. Focused on the games. Then a couple of Wired articles and rumored specs pop out, and the entire gaming internet is a battlefield.

A quarantine OT is not going to keep these people in line. You can't eliminate console warring on a videogame forum, you can only control your response to the retardation. I choose not to participate in that stuff and I still find lots of things here to engage with.

Maybe, maybe not. What do you lose by trying? If it cuts down accounts lost, mods working overtime, and threads disrupted by even a little bit, it’s worth a slot on the front page.

It just wouldn't work, the concept of console warring cannot be contained in an OT, and it would be even more of a pain in the ass for mods to constantly police everything in an attempt to keep it all corralled. They're doing a good job keeping an eye on it now and simply warning and banning people who are taking it too far. This seems adequate to me. You want to discourage this sort of thing ultimately, not give it an OT.
