Damn Tess. The only user that actually liked my posts. They gave them meaning. Purpose.
I’m going to say it: if you guys could handle the fact people who have a different opinion exist and didn’t think of them as “weasels”, perhaps we’d have a healthier politics board and maybe Tesseract wouldn’t have been permed.
Sorry to see Tess banned. As a new user to the site, he was one of the few who made you feel welcome.
Best of luck to you Tess.

Ohh wow! I never thought of the Empathy emoji as coming off that way...
I promise my sense of empathy isn't sarcastic!
Static is more Milestone than DC. The main conceit is that a gas from explosions of an illegal chemical is what caused it him and others to get their powers (except for Icon as he's an alien). It's why many of the powered people were called "bang babies" as explosions were their own sort of "big bang". The Dakotaverse was supposed to be an analogue to our own universe. It tackled racism, gangs, sexuality and many other issues in our society.
I almost had an interview with Dwayne MacDuffie before he died.
Regarding what he said to fudge...yeah it was a forum violation but I would wager there around many who thought that before Tess even typed it. Saved one of us from having to type that to fudge. As much as I can't stand that idiot -- I find it just as easy to ignore his meaningless posts. And I'm sure he's okay and just floating around here with one of his alts.I finally read what Tesseract posted on his way out. He was one of a few people here that I thought was a friend, and I still consider him as such. But he did everything he could to earn that ban if you just read what he wrote.
His usual participation in politics threads was clearly leaning right, but he kept all his opinions as vague as possible and mostly used neutral or positive reactions even on stuff he disagreed with. It made him an easy person to talk to, but I think most of the time we never really got to hear his actual opinions, because he always guarded them at all times to appear neutral.
Seems he supported the Jan. 6th stuff completely, and by that, he categorizes it as a peaceful protest. He said the girl shot in the capital siege was unjustly killed, which is something I've honestly not heard anyone say. But then calls them all patriots because of the whole "blood of tyrants - tree of liberty" mantra, basically justifying violence, but also trying to say it was peaceful, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. And while he's doing that, he spent the whole time trying to dunk on BLM and ANTIFA, which aren't supported on this site either by anyone that I know of. And that creepy threat to Richard Packer , joke or not, is just not cool when all he was doing was asking for evidence.
So yeah, I don't think he "snapped." He seems to have just finally said what he thinks. He was saying the same thing in the Trump speech thread, and seems to think the election was still rigged and Trump won. Not sure what else to say.
I obviously don't agree with any of what he said at all, and it deserved a ban - but he was a cool guy. I still don't think he should've gotten a perm, since he's probably never been warned before, or banned for any lesser infractions. I hope he chills out on political extremism, and keeps metaphysically hitting "like" on the music in the music suggestion thread.
I mean, I only called it as I saw it. I'm open to your theories if you have a better idea.Nothing has changed right tho guys????
Guys?!?!?!
nah surely it’s just some ‘click’ or alt right users who only spread conspiracies... right????
Things clearly changed here after the whole triggering of the capitol event.

Yeah, I think that's fair to say - except for the part about the left wing bias. This place hasn't been pro-left wing bias for a very long time, and suggesting that it is just doesn't seem based in reality from my perspective on here the last few years. For me the issue is the lack of any communication. Just blanket bans if you talk about “insert topic”. No warnings, no temps just perma for members, many who have made this site what it is.
Personally I was banned from posting in politics but the reason given had nothing to do with these “new rules” and was IMO the laziest excuse of a reason to get people off politics.
Since then I have had topics locked with no reason given and things moved making it impossible for me to respond to my own topics.
The closing of the ban thread was just dumb if you ask me. To me it feels like the mods got together and said ok let’s get rid of these right wing people and cater to a new crowd. That came as a pretty clear message and feels like a slap in the face to many who have now left or have been banned.
The site changed that much is obvious. There is clearly a bias now and things are much less transparent as well as much tighter moderation.
I mean we literally lost the heart and soul of the forum in terms of users. Most of the people that left or were banned had been here for a long time, they even stayed after the split to Era. We also lost many fun threads that were closed or nuked. I imagine the Ree thread was one of the most visited, at least it moved quickly.I feel like we're seeing it reflected in the traffic/activity as well. I may be wrong as I haven't been meticulously tracking the data or anything, but it feels like we rarely go above the high 500s in terms of logged in members at any time anymore, when there was a time we were regularly breaking 700 and it seemed like we had been on an upward trajectory.
Oh well.
If that is actually true, it reflects poorly on them. It basically means they wanted an echo chamber.I noticed regulars disappearing before the cluster of bans. It started about 1-2 weeks after the capital riots. My theory is that some posters didn't like the influx of left wing posters, so they left. Late 2020/early 2021 there was an influx of new left wing poster activity and I saw some posts from some users who expressed their discontent that they were here either to troll or they were making the board less tolerable.
And then a couple weeks later there was the capital riot and a lot of people completely turned on Trump and his hardcore followers and then there was yet another spike of lefty posters and then a week later a lot of regulars were gone who weren't banned they just stopped posting.
I think some posters felt the board isn't conservative enough anymore. That's their prerogative. I think a good mix of opinions is healthy, but people have the right to choose which communities they want to frequent and what suits their tastes.
He's not THAT badI like that people all across the political spectrum can at least agree that Packer is the worst.
Gee, what could that be? The Capitol event highlighted that (some) people saying stupid shit online will now actively carry that burden to the US capitol and run amok there. Lulz were had, and property and people were destroyed (and killed).Nothing has changed right tho guys????
Guys?!?!?!

To put bluntly: Bullshit. For me the issue is the lack of any communication. Just blanket bans if you talk about “insert topic”. No warnings, no temps just perma for members, many who have made this site what it is.
Instead of turning this thread into your own personal conference room, why not bring it up with staff? You think your politik ban was bull? Highlight it.Personally I was banned from posting in politics but the reason given had nothing to do with these “new rules” and was IMO the laziest excuse of a reason to get people off politics.
Since then I have had topics locked with no reason given and things moved making it impossible for me to respond to my own topics.
This right here is why Matt signed off. Because he couldn't exploit any longer what he thought was some significant influence he had accumulated to smite others. You think the Cyberbully tag was not in the very least ironic in nature? But yeah, most people on here made fun of me for that every single time I brought up another long post about "the rules" in the ban thread.
Not sure if that's the reason or not, but I noticed at least a handful off the top of my head who were very conservative disappeared like a week or two after the riot all around the same general time, but weren't banned. If that is actually true, it reflects poorly on them. It basically means they wanted an echo chamber.
I've never actually posted anywhere where my opinion was popular. I was the minority opinion on here when it was overrun with SJWs, and I was in the minority opinion on here the last several years when it leaned right wing. I still think it leans right wing, with only a handful of visible left wing posters that really post in politics frequently and create threads. And most of those people still get called names and trolled constantly, which has happened on here for years.
If that is too left wing for some people, that's sad. But I guess it's not impossible if FOX News wasn't enough for a lot of conservatives over the last few months.
Why kick people who aren't here with claims they wanted an echo-chamber? There were locked threads that some of them liked, a shift in moderation that they may not have liked, and people getting banned who they may have liked. I am not trying to debate whether they should have left over that stuff. I am just saying you are ignoring an elephant in the room and accusing them of wanting an echo-chamber without much to base that on.Not sure if that's the reason or not, but I noticed at least a handful off the top of my head who were very conservative disappeared like a week or two after the riot all around the same general time, but weren't banned.
Some people want to be in an echo chamber they find other views tiring.
It's not "kicking them" I just said there's no issue with wanting to be in a community with like-minded people. I have no issues whatsoever with any of them. And it's just a theory, I just said in that post that I'm not sure if that's the reason or not. It's more of a reading the tea leaves thing. Why kick people who aren't here with claims they wanted an echo-chamber? When is my political ban up or is that permanent? I don’t even recall getting a warning... Tried to email staff twice now but haven’t heard back.Rules changes were reasonable, people decided to be snowflake drama queens about it, they left or were removed. Life goes on.
Restored. When is my political ban up or is that permanent? I don’t even recall getting a warning... Tried to email staff twice now but haven’t heard back.
Didn’t want to shit up mods PMs so figured I would ask here?
I don't think you intended to attack someone who couldn't defend themselves. The general crackdown on non-pc and anti-sjw topics and ideas started it though. The political forum neutering pushed some over the edge. It's not "kicking them" I just said there's no issue with wanting to be in a community with like-minded people. I think people started to go missing before all that stuff went down, but maybe it happened sooner than I thought.
You owe me, blue balls. When is my political ban up or is that permanent? I don’t even recall getting a warning... Tried to email staff twice now but haven’t heard back.

That one also got locked. (Ban Justice thread). There must be a better way to contact mods about bans and etc... I know the ban review thread was locked due to people essentially whining about bans but I liked being able to communicate with the moderation staff and be able to ask questions... Maybe open up an “Ask a Mod” thread?
I dunno...
Some people find discussing video games boring. I like talking about them in doses, but mainly, I like playing them. It's kinda the same reason I just have no interest in video game podcasts. Listening to people talk about what games they're playing for whatever reason doesn't interest me. Video game talk to me is only good in snippets, like reviews or reactions to trailers.Having been mooching around the Politics forum lately, (Even posting two "UK" topics amongst the mass of US spam) it struck me that I didn't know a lot of the posters. So I clicked a number of their usernames and found they ONLY post in Politics.
This is a video games website isn't it? Can someone confirm that? Why sign up to only post in Politics? Very odd.
I never saw Schrodinger's posts but saw nothing out of line on that ban. I fail to also see what positivity Matt was contributing to the forum. He left because key members in his click left in December. Some of them still have accounts here but they're inactive. Tess...never saw that coming. Agreed with O-N-E that fudge wasn't just the worst in just politics... he is Pretty just trolling all threads and contributing nothing useful to the forum.I mean we literally lost the heart and soul of the forum in terms of users. Most of the people that left or were banned had been here for a long time, they even stayed after the split to Era. We also lost many fun threads that were closed or nuked. I imagine the Ree thread was one of the most visited, at least it moved quickly.
We still have long time users and new users sign up everyday but it will take a while to replace Tess, Matt, Schrodinger Cat and more. We lost valuable posters from all over the globe, from Canada to Australia that contributed and posted a lot.
I still remember how the Remedy forums fell apart after a lot of prominent users left following the Alan Wake wars, among those yours truly. Sorry Remedy lol.
GAF will be fine of course, it's much bigger than the Remedy forums were and it will keep growing. It'll just take a while to get new users that contribute as much as the ones that were banned.
That's my opinion of course. I obviously don't know how things work behind the scenes.
