Late on the reply but I wanted to check it myself, and yea. For some reason they wrote a 10 MB JSON for items the client has to parse before firing up. JSON is a lot like javascript, it should be used for small things (like configs of entities in Azure for example) and not this kind of work. So the fact it's ten fucking megs is baffling poor design to begin.

Next it only uses a single thread to check these items. It's like 64k from my quick estimate.

There is a lot more in the code that is amateurish and frankly should have gotten any senior dev lead fired but I am guessing turnover is so high for these massive studios that things like this go missed. "Just keep adding to it, we can't redesign things because it will push back launch x months".

And that would explain a lot after looking at this code. It's like a dominoes series of failures in design.

Edit: and I'll add, if they were this lazy in the design of their flagship game, imagine how lax their security must be for whatever systems they use for accounts and such. I would be shocked if they even have an IT team or a third party that performs audits and addresses issues. So I would not ever, for even a second, trust Rockstar or whatever company(s) they may use with my personal data. Especially not billing and such. It must be a horror show

I stopped watching Jim out of just being bored with his repetitiveness. Being a somewhat intelligent adult I didn't feel being reminded about the sad state of affairs of the videogame industry was neccessary seeing it's very obvious on it's own. I would've missed this whole melo drama if it wasn't for our very own Nush lol. Btw no Ill will. Just don't care about this sort of community drama. Pretty disgusting using gender as a pretense for said drama.

On top of that, he doubled down on the silly stuff while continuing to be by and large a negativity channel. I'm not interested in either of those aspects, so while I did enjoy the odd Jimpressions video as a nice, casual way to present opinions on a game, I completely forgot the channel existed until I was reminded by the post. I don't miss it at all. I stopped watching long before the additional wig, and I'm sure that's the case for plenty. I don't doubt that there's some transphobia related unsubscriptions too, but if you're a fan of Jim's content enough to stick around you probably don't mind all of the theatrics.

I might watch the under 900k video out of curiosity.
 
I hate to cast aspersions upon people I don't know, but it seems like he/she/they, given their constant negativity and weirdness, has some issues that they should maybe look into. But hey, they're happy and getting paid as much as an actual skilled and educated professional so fuck it. Have fun. Wish the best for them.

I did, it's 30 minutes of him taking ALL the trans victim-hood talking points from Resetera from the past 4 years that he's suddenly been "exposed to". But what he's really actually salty about is missing out on that gold Youtube play button he thought he had in the bag.

I watched the entire video which is saying something considering the fact I always thought they were a pompous, sniveling, angry-gamer rant nonsense. Never liked them.

But your post sums it up better than I could. What a pathetic and quite frankly shameful load of tripe to post to YouTube whilst moaning about it.

Certainly deserves an entry into the cringe thread. I'm actually curious what the next rant is about now considering apparently they're still raking in the cash and just screaming into the void. Not curious enough to sub though, fuck that.

Can I address my recent post deletion? I said the timing of Psychonauts 2 was bad because it will be releasing after Ratchet and Clank. I can't be the only ones that see the similarities. Short orangish characters in a comedic light platformer that hails from the days of the PS2. The "thought bubble" mechanic is also highly reminiscent of the "Rift" mechanic from the new Ratchet and Clank. Surely I'm not the first one to make the comparison and won't be the last. I plan to buy Psychonauts 2 and it is coming to Playstation so I don't see how my comment can be considered console warring.

This is the second time you've come to ask about people having a problem with your posts. Your first one sounded very console war-like when it was revealed, and completely unlike how you described the post which makes me think there's more to it this time as well. The problem is with how you present your points if it's happening twice in quick succession.

My summary is accurate. It's a multiplatform title so to consider it console warring seems ridiculous.

I didn't say it was console warring, just that it's not the first time you've (perhaps unintentionally) misrepresented your post after the fact. It's not unreasonable to think that the same could have happened this time, and the difference between the post and your retelling of the post could be the key element that resulted in the post being deleted.

They said it was a "drive by" and to stay in topic. I feel like they must not have watched the video because there are huge parallels between the two games that are definitely going to draw comparisons.

Maybe slow down and make more considered posts rather one every five minutes as your post history shows. Drive bys are typically incendiary comments dropped into a discussion and then that person just leaves, which at the rate you are posting is going to happen.
 
Hey Meta, just popping in to say: the whole political/ban appeal/etc thread nukage and moves against conspiracy theory postings happened... mere days after i requested a ban (from which i've just returned)

And like I'd just like to say, I saw all that happen and I really support all the changes.
