Metal Gear: Snake Requiem

So from what we know from the ending of MGS 3 do you think that is possible for the new MG games to go down the road of The Big Boss' life? Probably let us play everything that leads up to Snake killing the big boss?

No, not Metal Gear Solid. The original Metal Gear that made its debut on the MSX. Metal Gear 2 especially since we didn't get the game. Metal Gear 2 goes through the conclusion of the story between Snake and Big Boss where Snake takes him out at the end.

OH, I'm definitely for that, I'm also for a game that connects MGS3 MG1 and MGS altogether. Would the game be probably one of the most convoluted ever? Probably, but I'll damn sure sit through it to experience a ps3 metal gear son and dad story.

So did Kojima totally disregard this history when making the MGS series, or did Snake "take him out" in an Anakin type way where Big Boss was brought back as a cyborg (the suit he's wearing in MGS2)?

That's not Big Boss in MGS2. That is Solidus Snake. Another clone of Big Boss. There should be three total: Solid Snake, Liquid Snake, and Solidus Snake. When I get home home I can post a link that goes through some of the story details in Metal Gear 2.

Dunno if another Big Boss game would really be needed, although the point where he becomes corrupt hasn't really been fleshed out that well. In MGS3 things are forshadowed, like cloning and Metal Gear, but just as ideas and nothing that interested Snake at the time.

I would like to see MG1 and MG2 revisited, possibly even remade or combined into one game to flesh out Big Boss' corruption, his relationship to Solid Snake, the friendship between Solid and Grey Fox and also bring Ocelot and the Patriots into the picture (though that could be problematic, Ocelot didn't meet Solid Snake until MGS). MG3 made the Ocelot/Patriot angle much more appealing than in MGS2, so I want to see them go even deeper with it.

But that said, I could really do without any of that I think MGS3 answered enough questions to push the series forward again. Answering even more questions kinda ruins the mysteries left behind.

Yes. Time to remake the MSX versions of MG1 + 2.
yep, i've been wanting (and actually asked for) MSX remakes for the GBA (ala MGS:GB). I guess my hope will be placed with the DS though (i have no hope for PSP metal gear after MG Ac!d).

I'm not sure I want a MGS 1 remake.

If there won't be a "real" Metal Gear game on PSP there sure as HELL won't be one on DS!!
That's for sure! You're dreamin' boy!

in any case, if the MSX games are remade they must remain 2D or there will be a world of hurt for someone. and i think there's a higher chance of that happening on the DS than there is on the PSP... and besides... dual screen. one for radar ;P

at least one of the MSX games had a radar, of that I'm sure.

bullshit

The 2D MG's did nothing better gameplaywise compared to the 3D ones. This isn't a case like 2D vs. 3D platformers where alot of times 2D platformers have smoother gameplay. 3D steath absolutely demolishes 2D stealth in every way. Why would you want to revert back to that after MGS3, which is so perfectly built to handle remakes of those games?

MG2 had a radar, which is why I said "there was no radar in Metal Gear".

And has anyone here played MG recently? The gameplay is pretty archaic, and stealth is even more simplistic than Ghost Babel.

Haven’t played MGS3 (I may be getting a PS2 just for it though, when it reaches Australia), but what about it is "perfectly built to handle remakes of those games"?

The importance of keeping it 2D is to retain the core elements of how those games played back in the day. Improvements can be made of course, but I don't like the idea of taking what was originally a 2D game and making it 3D. Might as well just make an entirely new game and skip the remake if you're going to go the 3D route all the time. I feel remakes are only worthwhile if they are little more than aesthetic and aural upgrades with a few additions and improvements to gameplay.

This isn't like a 3D remake of a SNES game or something. Those older MSX games do NOT hold up at all...

It's able to handle both outdoor and indoor locations extremely well which is what those MG's were about.

" Might as well just make an entirely new game and skip the remake if you're going to go the 3D route all the time. "

It wouldn't be an entirely new game though since they'd be working off a blue print of the originals. They'd be dropping some new stuff in though like REmake. So it'd still be a remake of what happened in the original. The gameplay in the 2D ones are so dated, and that includes Babel.

Yup. That is why I would love to see the full remake treatment. :D

Plus I think something like a Metal Gear 1 + 2 remake would sell well in NA. We never got the true Metal Gear 2, but the crap Snake's Revenge.

Kojima is a genius, I'm sure he recognizes the market and what is available to him in remaking mg 1 and mg 2. Also, MG Acid looks like an okay game, was it rated by Famitsu yet?
