Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of The Patriots 2.0 |OT| Kept you waiting, huh?

I know I'm in the minority but man is this game overrated. So boring, 20 hours of cut scenes and 10 minutes of game-play.

yes we know, the gameplay to cutscene ratio is messed up.

i got over it about, hmm, 2 years ago. now i'm ready to play the game and just enjoy the good parts (which include some of the cutscenes).

You must be new here. Anyways whats everyone playing on their new playthrough? I picked Hard but its been years since I played so I'm having a hard time. Might go down to Normal.

But those 10 minutes are the greatest 10 minutes of your life!

Im going to start on Solid Normal and have a refresher playthrough. After that, Im going to follow The One Who Knocks emblem/trophy guide and hopefully have the patience to do it all.

Oh what a difference it makes having a receiver that can do Linear PCM (Multich or whatever it's called) compared to how I first heard it. This game is still such an absolute joy to the ears. Now to finish downloading the extra mp3s and get this game started!

Yes the patch is out in the US as of this morn.

Have a fun! Enjoy!
Well I think you still need the Corpse Camo to survive an inspection. They shouldn't inspect you though as long as they aren't already suspicious of you and you're not blocking their patrol path.

IIRC, they would inspect you as long as they saw you (even if not suspicious or you are not blocking their path). The faking death thing was basically useless without the Corspe Camo.

Don't forget to download the 13 ingame podcasts, too!

They are basically the audio commentary to the game, during (a second) playthrough.
Here's a list that also has the recommended listening locations:

btw, who here is truly hardcore and listens to the Codec messages via a headset? ;D

Man trying to suck at this game is so hard and frustrating.

It's pretty ironic that the Chicken Emblem, combined with all the others is as hard, if not harder than the Big Boss Emblem. That is pretty straight forward, you know exactly what you can use and what to use at all times but Chicken is just unrelentless in the sheer amount of tasks you have to do.

The One Who Knocks, thanks for the trophy guide. I believe it's the first published on this forum, and I appreciate how detailed it is. Will be using it as a guide if I decide to tackle the full set
I'm glad it will, hopefully, be getting some use. If you (and anybody) do end up using it (before I manage to start playing the game again) please let me know of any errors that are contained within. It was written in a hurry (after the trophies were revealed I started typing and managed to type to Act 3 but then my laptop froze and I hadn't saved since "Ground Zero" and lost a day and a half so I wasn't able to double-check multiple things in time for the trophy patch which is why I'm still brushing it up) so I would really appreciate if anybody here that's following it can help correct any errors as one thing I absolutely don't want to do is lead anybody astray.

As ironic as it may be, I agree with you (in that it's over-rated anyway). My memory of MGS4 was hugely soured by the ending as I played through it originally and finishing 100% of it the first time was more out of my appreciation of the series as a whole as opposed to the game itself. However, I am going to give it another shot this time and hopefully knowing what to expect will make it more enjoyable. So if you can, I recommend you give this game another shot. If you don't like the cutscenes, skip them! You can focus on speed runs instead. The one thing I will give the game (even if the focus was removed from stealth in my opinion) is that the amount of ways to play the game is plentiful. For comparison, MGS1 could be finished in less than 5 hours (maybe it was 3), MGS2 in 3 hours and MGS3 in 5 hours so it's not like any of the games were incredible long, they just have a significant amount of replayability.

I actually listened to the whole set rather recently. This will be my eleventh time through the game lol.

And I am actually going down to gamestop right this second to get a PS3 headset. I don't own one, and would love to hear some of the codecs via the headset. I tried fiddling with my PS eye just now, but that won't work.

Are you saying you're too good for this game?

I'm trying to do the chicken run but my mind goes into super stealth mode when ever I get into trouble. I've never tried to get the chicken award so this is completely new to me. In fact I always play MGS games trying to get 0 kills, 0 alerts, and 0 deaths.

If you set off an alert, and then let yourself die and use a continue to try again - does it count the alert for emblem purposes?

So skipping cutscenes is not an option, because of the flashback trophy...

But so far I really enjoy this game. Even though its 4 years old it still feels good, there is not really another game like it on the current consoles. You can fool around throwing Playboys, or go on a killing spree.. or search bodies... Its rather fun still. I had a harder time enjoying MGS3 HD because of the outdated gameplay. But that of MGS4 is still kinda passable though.

I think my favorite thing added to this game is the rolling sideways on the floor. It's very useful getting around quietly quickly and remaining low profile.

This was prbly my most used move. Followed by "the worm" and rolling onto my back to throw grenades unseen. Just like in the initial trailers <3

They shouldn't even acknowledge you unless they were looking for you beforehand. I took a couple of quick pictures to try and show it in action:

Sweet! I was worried about the 8-9 playthroughs it would take to get all the emblems, but I guess it'll only take about an hour and a half.

PS You should swing by some random movie and sports threads to let them know you don't like them, also.

Anything you do before you die, if you press continue, is saved (alerts at least, I cannot verify any of the others but I'm almost positive this is the case) so to avoid alerts you'd have to exit the game and reload a save.

God fucking dammit. Exiting to the title screen every fucking time is terrible. How hard could it have been to add load to the dam gameover screen?

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

Punishment.

I'm quite sure that was intentional, to try to dissuade people from doing that. If they had put in a load section it may convince people not to use continue since a retry was only a button press away. On the otherhand by having the option omitted most people will simply press continue and not think twice about it. I do agree it's an inconvenience but on the otherhand, the requirements for Big Boss Emblem are nowhere near as hard as MGS2's so it isn't as bad as this:

Play the game through on Extreme Mode.
Rader must be turned off.
Don't kill anyone.
Don't use any rations.
You have to avoid discovery.
Don't use any special items.
You can only save your game eight times.
Finish the game within three hours!

Weird how the game performance tanks for about 15-30 seconds when the trophy icon pops up.

That's due to memory limitations and is a problem with every game. If you have 360 and PS3, happen to have the same game on both and earn the same trophy/achievement, you'll find the 360 achievement comes up the second you meet the criteria while on PS3 it can take anywhere up to 20 seconds for the trophy to pop up.

Portable Ops after Snake Eater. ;)

Oh Portable Ops, what's that? Some kinda fan fiction?

Chronologically that's right, yeah, but really, the best way to play them is in release order: MG>MG2>MGS>MGS2>MGS3>Portable Ops>MGS4>PW.

Thanks. I played through in release order last time around but this time I really, finally want to make sense of the full story so fancy a chronological run through.
Yes I already know I'll fail and following the whole story is impossible, but I need to try damn it!

I'd avoid this. How does it play on Vita by the way?

As bad as it did on PSP. I'm a MGS Nut so I own the game for my collection, but it sucks so effin bad. It's super clunky at the core but it feels like MGS2/MGS1 but portable, clunky with beta versions of people capture present in Peace Walker.

I love MGS games and I never beat it ever. And I played through Ac!d (which is a pretty damn good game btw).
