Metal Gear Solid V announced (PS360, open world)

Yeah, thats what it seems like. But I heard that estimate by that financial analyst guy that said GZ would be March 2014 and TPP would be 2015. I dont want to believe that.

Damn, that's gonna suck. I knew that GZ would be the prelude to TPP, but I assumed he meant in the way that the Tanker and Plant or Virtuous Mission and Operation Snake Eater segments worked. Y'know, they be a part of a single game.

I'm too in love with this series to be able to wait for when they inevitably release both games as a collection. GZ better be good.

Implementing choices like The Walking Dead, with aggregated stats after each episode.

Did you use rations or not? 30% of the players did not use any rations.
70% of the players relied on CalorieMate.
I wonder how they taste

How they handle the release of these games will be interesting for me. With new consoles coming out, Id rather a PS4/720 version but theres no way Im waiting if the current gen versions come first.

I wonder if there are some E3 announcements brewing here.

The analyst said before March 2014 and before March 2015, so it could be 2013 for all we know. It looked like he was quoting Konami that those were the Fiscal Year targets.

My guess is that TPP has to be next gen, GZ maybe/maybe not. I am also guessing that GZ will be downloadable in fall this year and maybe available at retail as well but will also be included on the disk with TPP. I am sure we will hear more at E3.

Don't really believe TPP will be only next-gen. Kojima announced current gen at GDC and re-affirmed it with Keighley later. It makes sense that they would want current gen too because of all the PS3s/360s they could target compared to next-gen. They probably spent a lot of money developing Fox Engine/TPP so they need to maximize the profits.

Thank God. I LOVED the base building, and micromanagement of your soldiers and gear in PW. I hope they go further with it this time around. I'd love the weapon crafting to be much deeper, and outer-ops to be much deeper. I'd be ever better if you could take part in them as well.

With Outer-Ops, unless it's gonna be you actually controlling those soldiers and mechs, I wonder if it'll be more like a Turn-Based Strategy minigame, like Advance Wars. Of course, this hinges on Outer Ops even returning to a game like this.

Yeah, I was assuming both games would be current gen as a given

I really hope Ground Zeroes is released in the next 6 months. I feel like I've been waiting for this forever. MGS4 is two months away from being 5 years old. Portable titles notwithstanding, it's been far too long for me.

I wouldn't mind that, outer ops was pretty dull and without much reward. You could have some sort of system where for each field you can take one turn per in-game day or something.

Is anyone else here more concerned about the next iteration of Metal Gear Online than they are about MGSV? Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the MGS series and love the games, but MGO was by far my favorite aspect of mgs4, and I was disappointed in the lackluster quality of Peace Walker's online modes.

Has there been any news lately regarding the next MGO? Such as whether or not it will be bundled with MGSV or standalone? Last I heard it was rumored that the LA studio was working on the next MGO, which makes me feel slightly uneasy because I genuinely hope it isn't "westernized" for broader appeal..

No need to guess. Kojima and Konami confirmed that both GZ and TPP are 360/PS3 titles. They will probably announce cross-gen details at E3, after the Next Box is announced.

This is the most recent information that I know about.

So it sounds like they're simply giving it to their LA Studios. And from what we heard about KojiPro LA at GDC, I'm not sure what to think.

That's what worries me about MGO3 as well. I hope they don't exclude the wonderfully unique and quirky elements from the past versions. Also, please bring back the Robbie the Rabbit mask. Please.

Something just occurred to me, if Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are actually separate games, how come the key art for Ground Zeroes appears on the MGSV website?

They're episodic. So I'm guessing it's something like Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the latter a bigger project.

The anecdotal evidence is pointing to this coming to PC as well as next-gen, I'm hoping for an announcement along with the inevitable PS4/720 version.

If that happens, my body is ready for sneaking.

Big Boss being ex-Fox while Zero was still in Fox, and considering they became enemies, I always thought of it more as a "Dog hunts Fox" analogy.

Why wouldn't they have announced that though? There are good reasons you wouldn't announce the next-gen versions yet, but PC makes no difference.

"A cornered fox is more dangerous than a Jackal."

I just watched that scene a few days ago. Love it so much.

I wonder what kind of showing KojiPro will have at E3. We got Ground Zeroes last August, Phantom Pain in November, Phantom Pain again in March but that footage also contained some Ground Zeroes bits but there was little mention of Ground Zeroes at all. Im hoping we can at least get a solid release date on it and maybe more gameplay footage of it.

Seriously hoping they aren't really doing this 'episodic release' thing and actually making them separate games. I don't want to have to buy this twice just to get the whole thing.

I think were going to get Ground Zeroes this year. Whether itll be a full priced retail release or sold as some kind of cheaper prologue, who knows.
My guess is that it will end with the Mother Base accident and Big Boss coma to set up TPP.

Phantom Pain releases in 2014 right where GZ left off.

If both games are substantial in content, I wont mind buying both. I just think this whole thing and the way they handled it is pretty confusing for consumers. Especially since Ground Zeroes is lacking the "5" in its logo yet its being marketed as a part of MGS5.

Still not really seeing how releasing them separately even makes much sense.

Ground Zeroes being basically the "Virtuous Mission/Tanker Chapter" of MGS5 makes a lot more sense to me.

I just assumed it was a business move. If Ground Zeros is $20-30 and Phantom Pain is $40-60, MGS5 could essentially range from $60-$90.

It is gonna piss off some people if it plays out that way though and confuse and even greater number.

Why would Konami even need to do that though? It's not like friggin' Metal Gear Solid is at any risk of not selling well. Makes it just seem like Konami wants to screw everyone over.

It's just aggravating, especially combined with the whole Hayter fiasco.

I don't think Ground Zeroes will end with the destruction of Mother Base. I think GZ will ship with a variety of missions similar to PW, the use can collect items, Intel, and people to build up Mother Base. It will also have DLC support for more levels/missions. GZ is the pilot episodes and the DLC is the rest of the "season" (episodes).
The destruction of Mother Base and the lead up to BB's coma will be the opening trailer to TPP, which will be a more fleshed out traditional MGS game (no DLC).

Still not really seeing how releasing them separately even makes much sense.

Take your pick:
