Metal Gear Solid V announced (PS360, open world)

We play the prologue as Big Boss and the rest of the game as the "copy". Remember MGS2?

The issue I have with that theory is that Psycho Mantis' power wouldn't work like that on someone that isn't Big Boss. Only him have the memories of Volgin, Ocelot and of the Boss's horse. There could be some bullshit about memories being passed on throught the cloning but by that time in the game the clones of the Les Enfants Terribles project are also about 11-12 yo so they can't be like Big Boss yet. And why would a random guy they are using by putting him in a coma and dressing him as Big Boss would have those memories?

The artificial arm/robot arm is kinda weird since he doesn't have it in MGS4 but they had rebuilt his body anyway.

'Ishmael' is probably a hallucination.

This is what Evilore kinda proved earlier in the thread. The face under the bandages is probably going to be a real shocker, though.

They better be bringing this thing to next gen. Game has so many visual constraints from being hamstrung by current systems.

And it's an open world game. I loathe playing open world games on consoles. Pretty much no genre benefits more from simply brute forcing as much extra power as you can.

Bandage head is definitely not Solidus, the character is too humorous in tone to be him.

Notice again the weird hiss sound when looking at the strong light at the beginning (the helicopter). Wonder what that is about.

And yeah I wonder wtf that horn thing is. The fire-dude on fire also had horns.

I posted it at some point earlier today, but the job listing from February 2012 flat out said next gen consoles and PC. If another Metal Gear PC game is cancelled, I'm going to be pissed.

EDIT: Sorry, they said high-end consoles:

"the latest Metal Gear Solid targeted for high-end consoles and PC."

Source.

Fuck yes, Kiefer Sutherland.

So it seems no Hayter at all confirmed by the Pope.

Well that's that I guess. Geoff said Kojima gave a reason as to why no Hayter.. really interested to know what that reason is now.

I don't buy it. If it was anyone besides Kojima then ya... but no.. I'm not going to take anything he says at face value.

I'll believe it when I have V beaten.

Also has anyone figured out who the 3rd person is in the opening scene?

Why do you make it seem so outrageous that they just chose not to rehire him?

1. He's in MGS4 as David Hayter.

2. Most of what I've read points to him actually being good friends w/ Kojima.

3. The rest of the returning characters that speak have retained their VAs.

It just seems strange that they'd not even give him a heads up that they were going a different direction.

Then again, it's Konami. Look at how long it took Quinton Flynn to be offered his reprisal for Revengeance.

Too lazy to go through the thread to see if anyone else has mentioned this, but I'm quite sure the choice of song ("Not Your Kind of People") is a reference to Big Boss feeling that soldiers are different from everyone else, and his desire to create a haven for soldiers (Outer Heaven), free of ideology or loyalty to a national government.

Also, Hayter seems like a great guy and all, but the Snake voice was getting really ridiculous.

There was a breakdown in this thread or the other one. There is some angst towards Zero and their battle.

Looks amazing. I like my games linear so I'm a bit weary of the open world aspect, but so long as it has good pacing, I'm all game.

So ready for more Kojima insanity. And yay for Garbage.

Trailer is amazing. I am in awe.

And how appropriate that I've been playing Tactics Ogre PSP these last few days. Allow me to quote:

"Since ancient times, there has been a word for one who sells his soul to the devil. They call him "ogre," a demon who eats the flesh of men! I see now the many you will consume in your lust for power. You are an ogre in truth!"

This is the fate Big Boss is facing, and what we are seeing in MGSV is the internal conflict that will determine if he becomes the "ogre," or perhaps what kind of "ogre" he will be. From the time we have spent as this particular Snake, he has been the protagonist, someone we know from the inside out, and yet we know his final fate is to be opposed [to an extent] to our original series lead. While there are good reasons for much of what he does, in the path he is treading hero becomes anti-hero becomes villain. The imagery featuring horns of sort on both the Hallucination-Volgin and 'Sons of Anarchy'-Big Boss is a strong indication of where he will ultimately end up through the course of this game. I am excited to see how it plays out.

Wow, that was an amazing trailer. HYPE! Ocelot, and (a very young?) Psycho Mantis. A new MGS is coming!!!! :D

Gameplay trailer was great too, and the gifs floating around in this thread. This is going to be awesome, yo.

Maybe Decoy Octopus is in the game too.

I wonder who the young black kid is. Also, that character who they said is over 100 years old in the tech presentation. I always got the impression that the guy in the GFZ trailer looked more like a zombie than a burned man (probably burned though).

Ogres eat children in the original mythology. Big Boss is an ogre because he trains child soldiers? Young Sniper Wolf in the game?

(a very young?) Psycho Mantis.

It was cool to see the young Psycho Mantis. Hopefully this game deals with the formation of Foxhound by Big Boss -- maybe him recruiting all the weirdos like Mantis and Vulcan Raven.

lol someone edited Kiefer Sutherland's wikipedia page so it lists Metal Gear Solid V in his acting credits. Nothing has been confirmed !

It's definitely him. Either that, or it's the world's greatest impersonator.

I have a feeling first part of the game, Ground Zeroes = Open world.

Second part of the game, Phantom Pain = Linear tense story all the way until epic ending.

Yeah i watched drk last june when they were doing the fundraising, he is the best of the three, the ee mode on mgs2 is satanic.

I've been watching them play for quite a while. Dogg plays more often now and seems to be able to do the harder strats more consistently.

I posted about that earlier. I was watching that earlier as well. Can't wait for the 31st!

Yeah, can't wait. Wonder how many times drk is going to fall asleep during that.

I'm guessing that horn/metalic object in his head is what caused his comma. If they try to remove it he will die, so it has to stay in.

Edit: or maybe not, I can't see it in the hospital scene.

I'd be totally up for that. Your description kinda sounds like MGS4 a little bit. Beginning gave the illusion of a somewhat open war-zone shooter, and then the batshit fucking kickass story kicked into high gear all the way to the insanely epic ending.

what is meant by "open world"?

It is going to be like GTA, where you traverse the same places en route to certain timed/chase/stealth missions or is it just one large world without loading screens but one linear mission?

I just realized at the beginning of the trailer, the camera seems to behave as if there was a third character being attended in the room, and this is confirmed when Kaz says after he's told Snake is in a coma: "What about him?".

And then when the gameplay is shown, he's greeted by a man called Ishmael who has been watching him for the last 9 years. This is probably the same guy!

Now they say that there were two phantoms born out of FOX, and with all this situation, it seems that maybe Ishmael could have survived, what if he's the other Phantom?

Also, note that both Snake and Ishmael have the same VA which could hint at this. After all the whole Two Phantom thing was hinted with FOX and XOF.

Pretty sure that's what it'll lead up to.

I thought the FOXHOUND that we see in MGS1 were all recruited by, Liquid Snake? The one Big Boss formed was with, Grey Fox, and Solid Snake among others.

Kind of interesting that Psycho Mantis as a kid, knew Big Boss. Might be one of the main reasons he decided to join FOXHOUND, under Liquid's command.

Give me Ground Zeroes now (summer release) and keep baking TPP for 2014.

I'd like that a lot. Well, after I wake up from the coma that is.

You're probably right; I can't really remember the full story behind it. Big Boss was still running Foxhound in Metal Gear 1 and 2, and I figure those guys must have been a part of Foxhound by then, but perhaps it was in fact Liquid that drew them all together.
