Metal Gear Solid V announced (PS360, open world)

I see. Makes much more sense. Appreciate the clarification, fellas.

Well, a couple of years later Kaz describes Big Boss as "a monster" in front of Solid Snake. So something bad must have happened, which leads Master Miller into leaving his old friend

Don't really care about Hayter. Whoever they get to do the voice (Old BB voice from 4 right?) will be good. Liked it before. And Keifer is a baus so it's all good...

I am just too hyped to cry about some voice actor. Absolutely doesn't matter at all. The GAME looks sexy and crazy as all holy hell. I am there day 1.

Bummer it's in two different parts tho. Was hoping they were talking about a MGS2 kind of situation. But..i'm a sucker so I'll pay for both if they ask me too.

Can't wait to go wander around as Big Boss and just tranq fools for fun.

.

Well the majority of the Tanker chapter was for sale bundled with a free game. Seems Konami just want some of that Z.O.E. money without having to make Z.O.E.

Yeah I remember this. But is also on the Metal Gear 1 or 2 wiki that Big Boss lost his eye on the 80's. Is a fuck up plot and storyline and Kojima is always changing. So it could happen nothing to lead Master Miller to leave Big Boss.

What are everyone's expectations for an open world MGS? I'm assuming that it won't be open in the same vein as GTA or RDR. I'm hoping for a tight, complex, and intricate world, sort of like the Dark Souls map. A large compound, like the Big Shell on steroids, that the player will learn organically throughout the game. Kojima is meticulous as hell, and has stated that MGSV will not be as cutscene heavy, so I'm expecting there to be plenty of narrative woven into the environment.

Given that Kojima has stated that MGSV will reboot the series' gameplay and not rely as heavily on stealth as other offerings, I have doubts that this will be the case. I can dream though.

It wasn't retconned, MGS4 was the only time it was explained.

call it a dry retcon, I guarantee you that Kojima had 2nd thoughts about what he did with liquid possessing Ocelot. The whole thing wreaks of "oh God what have I done...let me fix this real quick"

Yeah there is no way that Kojima wasn't thinking literal "possession" with the arm thing in MGS2.

Or he simply chose Zero's side instead at that point. In PW he's more interested in money than friends. And to be fair, Kojima already retconned many things from MG1 and MG2. Miller wasn't Japanese back then either.

Miller was already dealing with Zero in Peace Walker. He admits to Snake the he was working for Zero for the cash but doesn't admit that he knows about the Les Enfants Terribles project.

Can we just go through this again.
Ocelot originally was a member of the Patriots, then left in secret, remaining as a double agent with the aim of destroying the patriots, and putting in place Big Boss' vision of the world right?

What did Liquid want exactly? What the Patriots did? His own particular ideal world?
Why was Ocelot required to 'pretend' to the Patriots to be controlled by Liquid in MGS4?

Liquid had daddy issues, and wanted to surpass Big Boss. He's also jealous of Snake for robbing him of the chance to kill BB himself.

Here we go.

Ocelot got the second piece of the PL in the ending of portable ops, and yeah he got off the patriots and joined big boss. he was a double agent in a lot of stuff, I mean a LOT. In mgs1 he works for Solidus that later wanted to destroy the patriots. Liquid wanted hell on earth or some shit, or just fight Solid. Or he was just a pawn of Ocelot. The Patriots with they AI control the world and stuff. Zero bla-bla-bla whikas sachê.

Ocelot had to pretend to be Liquid for the patriots not to discover his plan that was to help Solid with some stupid bullshit plot-line to end the patriots with the mgs 4 ending.

He wanted Big Boss view of anarchy and freedom of militia and stuff. The end.

Making a prediction.

We will see a young SNAKE in this game. He may very well be the guy in the head bandage. He was a part of fox hound.

The bandaged guy is Kojima.

yeah like metal gears story are completely grounded in a placed reality.

Any way that is my prediction. maybe not the bandage head guy.. but he WILL be in the game.

Let the betting begin!

Well, this game does seem to have some implication about the subject of children in war.

nanomachines.

What did Liquid want exactly?
he wanted nanomachines.

What the Patriots did?
they did the nanomachines.

His own particular ideal world?
an ideal world within nanomachines, yes.

Why was Ocelot required to 'pretend' to the Patriots to be controlled by Liquid in MGS4?

because of the nanomachines.

You forgot The Pyx and SOP. The System, etc. Oh, and GW. Y'see, there was this wolf, and it was eating all the babies, only it was the giiirl.

I've never really gotten the NANOMACHINES! meme. At least not the notion that NANOMACHINES! were overused in MGS4, compared to the earlier games in the series.

Nanomachines were always very important in the MGS games (except 3). For example, most of the first MGS game's story revolved around Foxdie. Which was a nanomachine.

MGS4 had a lot of cheese and silly stuff. But nanomachines was far from one of the worst of the problems of its plot.

Liquid wanted the same thing Big Boss did, just for different reasons.

Ocelot made himself into Liquid to create a situation where the Patriots would send Snake against him so he could trick Snake into destroying the Patriots.

I think it's mostly about the Vamp revelation, which made the game feel like someone had just attacked the script with a red 'NANOMACHINES' stamp. Naomi, how did he heal like that? Nanomachines. Oh, but why was he all creepy and grey? Yeah, his nanomachines were wearing out. How did he... walk on wat- Nanomachines, right.

Wasn't Naomi also keeping her never-before-mentioned cancer at bay with nanomachines, too? And then using nanomachines to suppress her cancer-suppressing nanomachines?

The retcons have gotten out of hand enough as it is. Last thing I'd want is for some child soldier plot to be shoehorned into Solid Snake's backstory.
You know, outside of a handful of timeline related retcons, ones that come solely from an individuals perspective, and extremely minor ones from MG1 and MG2, I've yet to see any sort of comprehensive list of really damning retcons. Until I do, statements like there are just hot air.

That being said, if anyone can point me to a list I would be grateful!

I am for the theory that Ishmal, the guy in the bandages isn't real. He is a sort of extension of Big Boss's psyche. Helping him get out of the hospital that is under attack. A couple things have be thinking this. Firstly, the first words he speaks, "Get up solider" and "I have been by your side for 9 years". Also both voices seem to be voiced by Kiefer Sutherland. Secondly there is that moment in the hallway to the elevator with little Psycho Mantis, where he sets the hallway on fire. You see that Ishmal catches on fire and Boss is fine. This could represent Mantis trying to attack that part of Big Boss's mind. And lastly when Ocelot shows up Ishmal is now gone.

Of course this is just a theory. God...Can't wait till E3 to see more!

I'd also like to see a list, because the only ones I can really remember are Dr Clark being referred to as a 'he' at some point in MGS1 and then turning out to be
Para Medic
, and the debacle with Frank Jaeger in Portable Ops (which might not even be canon anymore).

I think people throw around the word retcon too liberally. I don't think something like
the Patriots being the MGS3 crew
is a retcon, for example, because it's new information. Kojima almost certainly didn't have that planned out while he was writing MGS2, but he slotted it in there without directly contradicting anything else, so whatevs.

I don't think his current backstory is too far off from a child soldier, since before his birth his purpose was battle. Then he "spent his early life being raised and taught by a variety of foster parents," I assume in some patriot/cipher facilities and stuff. Just, not really experiencing a regular childhood, overall. But I think the child soldier theme will also include big boss in africa, a la metal gear 2 and those children all throughout the facility. BB's talk of the cycle of rescuing them from war and feeding them back into it, among other things. A lot of characters in that universe are kinda stuck in a loop, just can't escape the battlefield... I guess it's the purest form in which they express who they are and what they believe in

Yeah, there should definitely be an established definition for what the term actually is before taking any list seriously. Every time I read some fan (and sometimes non-fans) ranting, they either didn't pay attention to the game, or can't tell the difference between the term retcon and just plain bad writing.

This game has the potential to be the most exciting. It seems to be set right around the time that the very first game starts. Which not only means a young snake could appear but also a young gray fox!

I'm hoping Kojima does another trailer like the "Beauty and the Beast" one for MGS4. I still cant believe how many times I've seen that trailer. The main draw for me has always been the bosses, and I think he's off to a good start with the soulless ginger kid and ghost rider.
