Metal Gear Solid V announced (PS360, open world)

I'd rather it be a standalone altogether, but I'm not quite sure KP learned its lesson from MGO2. I do remember Kojima saying whatever successor comes will cater more to the West.

I really just want MGO2 back, but with better moderation and no Konami ID. I loved how unique and quirky it was, and that's why I stuck with it for so long. Also, using lobbies instead of matchmaking was wonderful. Being able to play zombie games after getting bored with TDM or team sneaking was great.

The part that can easily be retconed is that Big Boss saved him around that time from something. In this case, Frank is in the same hospital after having being tortured (he has been keep watch over BB over the years was but was still active in the military). Then he and Big Boss escape when the place comes under attack. He tells Big Boss to call him Ishmael because he doesn't want to tell him right away that he's Gray Fox. Big Boss tried to give him a normal life before, BB might be a bit shocked if he was told that.

Also guys, remember Grey Fox changes his name to Frank Hunter at some point. Hunter = Ishmael.

Bandages = ninja mask.

I've been saying this since the first phantom pain trailer was released, but now I do think they are the same person, or that Ishmael doesn't exist anyway.

That's Joakim's significance.
The bandaged guy (Ishmael/joakim) never existed, it's just snake's/kojima's alter ego.

i'll promise to write it with an A if you promise not to pronounce lara croft as "laura croft". deal?
I never ever said Laura, i want to throw a new born out of the window everytime someone says "Laura"

... of course i'm kidding.

It would be sweet as hell if it was Grey Fox. Those pictures posted from some comics have me a little convinced. But...I still am thinking that Ishamael isn't real. It definitely sounds like both him and Snake share the same voice in the gameplay video. So strange.

This guy has some great fan made MGS videos.

Big Boss Tribute

Solid Snake Tribute

These are fantastic, and make me more sad about Hayter not being involved. He's not the greatest VA, but he still IS Snake to me (both Snake and not-really-old Big Boss). I hope, at the very least, that the next time we see an adult Solid Snake, it's Hayter.

Also, the Big Boss video has me even more convinced that MGS3 could make a kick-ass movie. It was basically a really cool movie trailer for MGS3 (with a few PW scenes thrown in).

What did it say? A while ago I saw something about him voicing a dlc character in Street Fighter vs Tekken, I'm sure that can't be true!
Just that he voices Ishmael in MGS5. That doesn't proof anything but i still think Snake has a different VA.

Not sure if this is the right topic, but the anticipation for the trailer gave me the itch to play some MGS again, so I went back and did speed runs in 3 and 4, my two favourite MGS games gameplay wise. Even though MGS3 was the much better time, I think I'm more proud of the MGS4 run because IMO it was much tougher to get below 2 hours in that game than MGS3.

MGS4 was the first game I got for my PS3 and I've played it every year since I've owned the console. Can't wait for MGS Ground Zeroes (any chance for winter 2013?) and then Phantom Pain!

I thought Ground Zeroes & MGSV were the same game?

Pretty sure they are, but there's still a lot of confusion going around about it. Konami or someone really needs to come out and clarify.

There were scenes from the earlier Ground Zeroes trailer in the most recent Phantom Pain trailer. If they're separate games, why would they do that?

Plus it plain wouldn't make any sense for them to be separate.

well, both game (phantom pain and ground zeroes) have been in development for a long time, creating engine from scratch etc. maybe it's just too expensive to sell them as 1 game for $60

I dunno, the comments from Kojima seem to suggest that they are not the same. He said he can't comment on the distribution methods of Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes when asked something like whether they were on the same disc:

http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/84h9k6/metal-gear-solid-v--the-phantom-pain-kojima-interview

I can't remember where in the interview it happened though.

When asked if one would purchase Metal Gear Solid V and receive Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain as a single game (similar to Metal Gear Solid 2 having the Tanker and Plant Chapters), Kojima smirked and stated that he could not comment on how they would be sold and distributed. I noticed that he said “they”, essentially separating Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain as well as potentially separating their sales and distribution channels, though that is purely speculation on my part.

Combined, they make Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, but they are separated this time for whatever reason.

Virtuous Mission - Ground Zeros

Snake Eater - The Phantom Pain

Tanker Chapter - Ground Zeros

Plant Chapter - The Phantom Pain

Distribution and charge is what worries me right now. I can live with treating the prologue essentially like DLC, but if something nuts like Ground Zeros being on PS3 and Phantom Pain being on PS4 happens (exclusively), somebody is getting killed.

They should clarify so doomsday people like me can shut up.

Why bring back such an unremarkable character? I don't even remember what his deal was in PW.

I could imagine him being stuck at Outer Heaven when the fighting goes down, and he gets burned from some kind of explosion or something. It definitely does seem like it could be him.

Though, I'm at the very end of Peace Walker right now, so something might happen at the end that would make that theory totally wrong.

His clothes still seem awfully spiffy.

Is he the bad guy in PW?

quoted by wikipedia:

Ramon Galvez Mena

He is later unmasked as KGB intelligence operative Vladimir Zadornov when Coldman prepares the Peace Walker to attack from inside a US base in Nicaragua. The MSF, teaming up with the FSLN, captures him and locks him up at the Mother Base, but he breaks out on several occasions, forcing the player to recapture him. He is eventually killed by Big Boss in self-defense.

The theory is that he actually doesn't die. He survives but is badly burned.

don't know what that comparison is trying to make, the clothes are totally different, it's a typical suit and coat design, different color, different material, Galves coat have raised collar, burning man, not. burning man coat also have more padding that make the shoulder area rise a bit more, make it look more classy than galvez'. button placement, inner white shirt and tie is not enough to assume they're the same person.

Well Kojima said they were targeting current gen consoles at GDC, and he re-affirmed that "Phantom Pain was going to be on PS3 and 360" later with Keighley, so try not to sweat it too much man.

Besides, think about it from their perspective -- they spent ~3 years building this engine, it must have been really expensive. They need to maximize revenues so of course they are going to target the 100+ million PS3s + 360s out there!

Are the sprinklers a hallucination too?

I think young mantis makes actual flames.

From Metal Gear Wiki said:
Psycho Mantis was born in a small Russian village before the collapse of the Soviet Union. His mother died giving birth to him, which made his father resent and hate him. He discovered his powers and his father's true emotions one day while accidentally reading his mind. He wondered if his father would kill him, and the shock of this revelation awoke his subconscious. He used his telekinetic powers to burn down the village that he lived in, killing all residents. This release of psychic energy caused severe burns across his body, particularly his face.

I think his pyrokenisis is just his predominant ability early on, a still unfocused ability. Maybe it's soon after the village burning event, hence the strait jacket straps. Question is, if he's around 14 or 15 in this (born 1970) how is it that he has hair if he severely burned himself pre-Phantom Pain?

Anybody who played through the awesomesauce that was Peace Walker's post-game content to get to the true ending never describe Zadornov as unremarkable, I think.

Snake, guess what? Zadornov escaped again! This time, he escaped DEATH.

Yo I lol'd at this for real.

Anyway...I hope it's not Zadornov.

Having never played PW, this made no sense to me. Is he the main villain.

Huh? Looks the exact same to me....notsureifserious...

Remember this picture? You can see the horn on BB's forehead. I never noticed it until I went back and looked today. It is the same debris that is in his forehead at the end of the trailer.

Am I the only one that wants this to happen? would be a good way of showing off the FOX engine before prepping you for it on PS4!

I think it's more like that both GZ and PP will be on PS3, then a compilation will be on PS4.

Coming this year to PS4 - MGS5: The Complete Season, only $149.99

Great find! It looks much more like shrapnel here than an actual horn.
I hope to god it's shrapnel.

Does every coat looks the same to you? They're totally different design, instead of focusing too much on button plscement similarities look at the collar, shoulder, and arm sleeves. Galvezcoat have raised collar , in the shoulded and arm sleeves you can see some kind of belt buttons. Things that are not in the burned man's clothing.

That thread is really interesting, because a lot of the theories in this thread were made in that thread with almost nothing to go on. MGS4 is coming to PC?
