Metal Gear Solid V announced (PS360, open world)

Id like it if MGO was its own thing outside of MGS5. A digital PSN/XBL release or something.

Well Japan sold the game separately in addition to the MGS4 MGO version.

Selling a mutliplayer online game without being a global player like some shooter series is probably too risky outside of Japan.

Why would Konami even need to do that though? It's not like friggin' Metal Gear Solid is at any risk of not selling well. Makes it just seem like Konami wants to screw everyone over.

It's just aggravating, especially combined with the whole Hayter fiasco.

This confuses me as well.

Take your pick:

Only one of those I'm really all that familiar with is that MGS2 demo disc...

Are the contents of GT5 Prologue and Dead Rising 2 Case 0 included in the full version of their respective games? Because if so, unless Phantom Pain ships with the entirety of Ground Zeroes included with it, I don't see how it's comparable to these examples.

I find it weird that I just can't get excited for this game. I'm a huge MGS fan and was super pumped before GDC but now all of that has faded. The trailer, while cool, was kind of disappointing. It was mostly a music video and remixed footage from the previous two trailers, Big Boss' new voice is kind of suspect, no release window, no confirmation of any next gen versions, and we still know next to nothing about the actual game. I hope we see/hear more soon.

Why would Konami even need to do that though?

To offer Ground Zeroes earlier? It's not like they have both games completed already. TPP is a larger game and will take longer to complete. Both games will probably be offered as a single release later on.

I don't see what the problem is. I would rather get some MGS this year than having to wait another year to get the entire thing. MGS games always have a lot of replayability and seeing that GZ will be open world should make for an awesome sandbox to mess around in until TPP is ready.

I was checking the MG Wiki and I am trying to piece together some dates. This is what I found:

The only time where at least 9 years fits between BB's involvement in anything where an actual year is given is 1977-1989.

These are the events:
1977- Big Boss rescues Frank Jaeger from a FRELIMO prison camp in Mozambique.
1989- Big Boss covertly resumes command of FOXHOUND.

However, there are some events that include him in the 1980s that do not have a specific year. Here they are:

198X- Big Boss battles in various African civil wars.

198X- Big Boss meets Frank Jaeger's adopted sister in Mozambique, and brings them both to America. The young girl eventually takes the name of Naomi Hunter.

198X- Big Boss falls into a coma, awaking around 1989 before resuming command of FOXHOUND and establishing Outer Heaven.

198X- Big Boss establishes the mercenary nation-state and fortress of Outer Heaven in South Africa.

I'm not saying it's a retcon, but it's a retcon.

It's probably not totally necessary like you said, since GTAV has been in development for who knows how long and it's coming out as a standalone release.

But I also understand why they would want to. I mean, the last MGS game came out in 2008 and they probably started working on the Fox Engine shortly after that. It doesn't sound like TPP would be ready until 2014 at the earliest, so we're talking 6 full years of development for the Engine/Game, which probably cost a crap load of money.

But I also understand why we as consumers might take exception to this. I'm sure other publishers are watching the results of this closely and it could potentially set a precedent others would like to follow. Why offer the single $60 game if we can sell it as, say, 4 $20 parts instead?

Take your pick:
that metal gear solid 2 demo disc sooooo many memories.

Am I the only one who loves MGS but has no idea of the story anymore?

I was lost sometime during MGS2, I think I understood MGS1 on the PS1.

Yet I still completed and loved MGS3 and 4 (even took a day off work to beat MGS4 the day it came out).

The gameplay and boss battles are why I play MGS. I like watching the cutscenes as well (all the boss introduction cutscenes in particular) but have never been able to keep up with the story, or had a burning desire to understand whats going on, to be honest.

All I know is that Big Boss in MGS3 is the clone dad of Solid Snake in MGS1,2 and 4.

MGS2 is when the series started getting too whacky. I thought MGS3 did a good job trying to reel things back in but then MGS4 took a dump on all that.

I love them all though so whatever. How many times this series did something that I didnt like...yet here I am coming back for more. I cant stand it sometimes but they have me by the balls.

There is an official free app on the PSN that covers the series up to MGS4 » Metal Gear Solid 4: Database

And an unofficial mirror of the same database on PC » Here

Hope they help!

It has probably already been said, but I will be pissed off if they charge an individual $60 for Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain each instead of just combining them like the Tanker and Big Shell in MGS2.

On another note, I also just started my replay of MGS2 and finished the Tanker chapter with Snake, too bad that the game heads downhill after this point though TBH.

I heard in this thread that these are inconsistent with the story.

More inconsistent with some peoples version of the story
the data base isn't up to date anyway
back to the Solid theory, its my understanding that Solid Snake has always been physically older even before MGS4
Gray Fox comments on his appearance in MGS1, as does Liquid Ocelot in MGS2
I am kinda interested in what his physical appearance would be in the 80's, especially when he had such a large military background before joining Fox Hound, he was green berets in the late 80's which would mean he was very young, but was he physically?
btw I ain't thinking he is in TPP, just curious.

Didn't they say they moved his body around serveral times? I doubt it's the same person.

American hospital to Cyprus hospital from the sounds of it. Same Nurses would be unlikely.

But lets go with the theory that this is all a big ruse and he's actually in a giant californian warehouse under the control of Jim Phelps and his Impossible Mission Force. For no reason whatsoever.

The database isn't so much out of date as it is nonsensical and inconsistent.

I see no similarity of any kind between those two people other than the fact they're female and nurses.

Does the nurse in the second image look like someone who would normally be working at a Cyprus hospital...?

Good point, maybe that's why he asks Ishmael where the woman is when he wakes up? She must be an important character.

Could be.
Though Im not sure why he would refer to a nurse as "the woman"...

There has to be a gap of time between him waking up from the coma and him waking up with Ishmael. We dont know how long it is but Im assuming that "the woman" makes an appearance somewhere in there.

There is also the chance BB was lied to about his time in a coma

You know, I think it'd be refreshing that we were told the truth, even though the song in the trailer may have hints and stuff regarding that. I love twists and backstabbings and stuff, but sometimes it would be cool if someone was honest - like that doctor seems to be an honest guy, the one who tells us about the coma. I hope so.

What the hell is this thing?

He still reminds me of Volgin but with the way hes used throughout the trailer, I dont think it is.
Maybe its an illusion Mantis kid uses to make himself more threatening...as if a floating child wearing a gas mask isnt threatening enough. Id shit my pants.

Im with you. I dont even like to entertain the idea of the "9 years" being a lie. It hurts too much :(
