Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

The amount of depth in Mother Base alone is bewildering, it's like an entire game in itself, and so much of it is optional.

The music choices couldn't be better either.

I ain't even gonna lie, shit looks legit awesome. Probably my favorite thing I even saw at Gamescom.

Only bad thing about the FOB invasions is the wormhole fulton. The balance of the balloon you can shoot down is great and since you can't stop the wormhole they're guaranteed losses. Only thing that's unclear is if the attacker keeps what they fulton if they fail to reach the core. If they do, it seems like an easy way to just steal resources and personnel without much effort. Not sure I'm on board with that.

Maybe the wormhole fulton is only for defenders?

I want to build an FOB garrisoned entirely by bears.

Dunno if the behavior is in game but wouldn't it be hilarious to see some invaders repelled by headbutting goats or rams? lol

I get the vibe, people are going to do some crazy shit with FOB'S if possible. Youtube is going to be a possible goldmine of laughter.

That would be the only balance that makes sense. Unlike the stealth camo, we can't see if it's restricted.

Looking at the video, he fultons 2 placements with balloons and then gets invaded and directly goes to MB without changing gear. There are a few screen wipes though, it's possible he could've switched it in between those cuts...

That was the greatest gameplay demo I have ever seen. This is not just GOTY, this is the potential greatest game of all time.

It is everything I want and dream of. I will be invading bases all day long.

Agreed on every point! Oh and while you were out... *whistles*

My anticipation for this game is weird. On one hand I'm almost in awe at the amount of sandbox options and base management available to the player, and the on the other hand I get this feeling when watching some of the videos, this one in particular, where I'm thinking "I guess that's cool but I don't really care, where's my linear and focused MGS game?" Like this feeling in my gut that everything which seems cool on paper concerning the micromanagement and FOBs will fall flat when it's in my hands. Nothing about the story has grabbed me either which isn't helping, and I really didn't enjoy Peace Walker.

I still want it Day 1 though.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The amount of effort that has went into a single optional mode in this game is utterly ridiculous. My hype levels are about as high as they're ever going to get at this point.

I wonder if the whole shower stress mechanic is the only version of that in the game. Knew there would be some sort of psychological toll on Boss with this game that manifests in the game play (especially with MGS4's stress mechanic being next to pointless) but the shower seems kinda shallow. Think we'll see other systems in place?

Has there been any user impression so far from the Gamescom show floor? I know that Gamescom will have a playable demo of TPP on the show floor, but I guess that's not available until later?

I wish I understood why people like this game. not trolling. Legit question.

Open World Japanese GI Joe. If that doesn't appeal to you I don't know what to say.

Game looks amazing.

Free-to-play timers look bullshit.

I'm torn.
God damn it, fucking timers...
But I always pre-ordered...

That's only for the online/PvP stuff right? Probably no timers in single player?

To be fair, the gameplay looks so fun that I would probably won't mind doing missions while waiting for the timer to finish

One of those build timers was upwards of 2 hours, thats getting into really bs territory.

There was so much to take in I had to watch it a couple more times and while the concept and game itself blows me away, I agree with you 100% on the timers. That looks like the opposite of fun because you know damn well that is where the microtransactions are going to come into play. That is why it is designed this way.

Yeah but it also doesn't look like the invader gets any penalties for losing whereas the defender(s) has everything to lose.

Multiple defenders? As in multiple players? I don't think they said anything about that, only that you could send a online friend to your base so it can defend it in your place.

Yes but before GZ you need to play MG1, MG2, MGS1, MGS1 vr missions, MGS2, MGS2 vr missions, MGS3, replay MGS3 on a higher difficulty, Portable Ops, MGS4, and Peace Walker.

He can ignore Portable Ops. It's not even part of the Metal Gear saga.

Wow this feels like one of those rare games I would spend >100 hours in. That gameplay makes me very nostalgic of running around MGS2 as a kid. I can't wait to invade and build a big ass Mother Base...

I thought Miller's name is McDonnel. Why is it that one of the missions say it's Benedict? Are they the same person anyway?
