Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

So do we have an idea of how long the game is?

About the same ballpark as a no frills run through Witcher 3. 40-60 hours for the no frills non-completionist was what is being bandied around in other places.

Basically it's not Baldur's Gate 2 but it's significantly above MGS4. It's about where open world AAA games aim to be at because the general feeling I think is that they don't want to go for 100+ hours because ultimately their fates are entirely determined by their metacritic scores, they're under significant pressure to be a "hit." And for that they would far prefer having double the production values over 40 -60 hours than half over 80-120 hours.

I would reflect my earlier questions towards you, if you have the time.

Did you play with controller or Mouse and Keyboard?

PS4

If controller, Was it improved from Ground Zeroes, as was stated in one of the gameplay videos?

What was the complaint or aspect about GZ's controls that could've been improved upon?

Also, hope it's not too much to ask, but if you've played Peace Walker, can you tell how you felt about TPP in general comparatively?

I'll save that for my review.

.

No but I mean like really get rid of them all together like throwing them off a cliff does. That doesn't count as a kill for whatever reason.

Also you're right about the hold up keeping them down until a base alert or someone comes to get them, but the CQC combo is 4 minutes iirc.

You can shoot a guard around 4 times(assault rifle) in the leg to put them out forever and it won't count as kill. They will be groaning on the ground and cannot alert the base. Combining this strategy with a silenced lethalweapon makes it a permenant tranquilizer. All of this comes at the limitation of the suppressor durability.

Won't they die after a time?

Oh alright so considerably longer than the other numbered entries. Hoping for a fantastic experience.

I already redeemed my code through Steam and have TPP in my library, but not GZ.

On Steam right now, the only way to buy TPP is to technically buy a bundle with GZ; they're two separate entries. Rockstar did something similar with GTAV during the summer sale, removing the option to just buy the game with a bundled ingame cash card. Though in this case the bundle price isn't more expensive compared to other storefronts for just the game alone.

The code you redeemed was just for TPP, not the bundle.

Because it's specifically a Steam Store incentive, as I said. ;) The pre-order items I referred to are these:

- Emblem "VENOM SNAKE"
- Mother Base Staff 3
- Collector's Video

GZ isn't included as the only way to get the bundle is to pre-order the game on Steam itself.

What's Collector's Video? Is it the documentary? That is the only thing I want from the CE but I am sure it can be bought separately from ebay eventually

First game I'm pre-ordering in a really long ass time. Not a fan of pre-ordering usually, but I loved Ground Zeroes (and all the previous games in the series) and this seems absolutely nuts... I have faith in Kojima.

I have a code to redeem at the Nvidia site for this game from my 980ti purchase, but I have it pre-ordered for PS4 and I'm happy playing that version. I would like to gift it to a GAF regular, but not sure if I can - it's just a one-time redemption code, so I should be able to pass it on, yes? And does anyone know how I can set up some kind of sweep stake/lottery so I can give it to a random person, rather than first come first served?

Any ideas for how to do this fairly? Don't want to make it a competition, just a luck of the draw thing. Please don't PM me for the code, I want this to be fair :)

I have to go out now, and won't be back till tomorrow so please don't think this is a hit n' run if I don't reply immediately!

Yes, you just give them the code and they can redeem it with no issues.

In Ground Zeroes, is there a way of peeking your head above cover to use the binoculars, without going into a full stand?

I've wondered that myself, and I honestly don't know, but I'm almost positive I've seen them do it in one of the Phantom Pain gameplay demos. Maybe if you click R3 (which I believe is used to peek over when you're in cover), and then hit R1 for the scope? I'll load it up quickly to see if it works.

EDIT - Nope, that doesn't do it. R3 does make Big Boss peek over cover, but as soon as you bring up the scope he drops back down again. That might be one of the gameplay tweaks they've made for The Phantom Pain.

Good to know, thanks :)

Would obviously be a massive balance issue if you could shoot like that, but just peeking your head over for scoping and tagging shouldn't be a problem

From the press side, all I can tell you is that we played from retail discs the whole time we certainly had to wait some time for some high level weapons and items to be developed. I know of at least three press attendees who got to the ending before the event was over. I'll probably reach the ending myself by the end of tomorrow.

Wait, you got to the ending already? Well that's disheartening. How long was you there!

thanks! just to confirm, rumble is working too? I just said fuck it and ordered an gtx 970, want the game to look as beautiful as possible!

I think you can configure rumble on the DS4Windows program. I don't know if rumble is on by default. Perhaps someone else her can confirm it.

Its kind of a shame we will never get a full remake of the MSX games.

After so many Big Boss games, finally getting to see Solid Snake versus Big Boss would be rad. I bet they could make some real good trailers out of it.

You would really need to toss out a lot of the original script to make it work these days though. Like leaving the Big Boss reveal until the very end is a bit pointless since it would be a big selling point of the game. It would make sense to maybe put it earlier in the story just give more time for Big Boss and Snake beef.

Maybe you make it like Snake Eater and Operation Intrude N312 is a shorter tutorial like mission the Virtues mission and Zanzibarland is the real meat and potatos.

I dunno. Just idol thoughts. None of that is ever happening now unless its a pachinko machine.
