Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

Who is doing the OT for the game ? It needs to be the most amazing OT ever. This is the last Metal Gear Solid and the end of an era. The game is Kojima's magnum opus. The OT needs to reflect this.

OT OPs are supposed to be a place of clear and concise information pertinent to the game in question, not overdone PR brochures, which is why, a few years ago, a rule was imposed to limit them to one post -- a move which has been mostly successful at nipping ostentatious OTs in the bud (some thread creators realised that the character limit could effectively be enlarged by incorporating text into embedded images). I mean, that doesn't mean the OPs have to be all info (text + screenshots) and no window dressing, but you should always ask yourself if what you're including is actually important, otherwise you end up with something needlessly unwieldy (and on that note, Bruce's tag really ought to be changed given it links to what has become a prime example of what not to do).

I don't remember having a problem with development timers in Peace Walker, or waiting for captured characters to join. Same goes for Portable Ops. Timers felt well-balanced in those games and I remember Konami already saying they're trying to balance the game so it will feel right without microtransactions.

As for base management itself, in Assassin's Creed it felt like content bloat, and I imagine it would feel similar to me in Dragon Age Inquisition. The earliest example of this kind of system I know of is in Final Fantasy Tactics where you could send units off to do side missions that finished on timers and had a certain chance of success. It felt fine there.

In fact a lot of what Kojima has added to MGS since Portable Ops feels cribbed from FF Tactics. The overall flow of Portable Ops and Peace Walker felt pretty similar. All those games are mainly about building small armies, unity-by-unit, and then selecting the units who are right for individual missions. The main difference is the MGS games don't really have the complex job system. In light of this, the one thing mission from TPP seems to be the co-op option for missions.

If someone seals ressources and staff from your FOB while you aren't playing, does that hinder your MotherBase development in SP?

I'm not sure about resources. That would seem to be unprocessed crates you've stolen, so I don't think that's a hindrance, per se.

The staff they steal seem to be ones you've assigned to your 'Security Team', so they would be serving no other purpose than defending the Forward Operating Base and your items there.

So Mother Base development seems separate. It seems like engaging in that part of the game would only result in additional GMP, and therefore faster development, but the amount you gain would vary depending on how well you defend and invade the bases of others.

The (potential) scope of this game amazes me.

I hope I can get more into it than 4, which, I don't know, was too difficult for me..;) I always got spotted and killed.
I loved 1 and 2, though.

Ah ok, Thanks for explanation.

I can't wait for this promised surprise: http://www.metalgearinformer.com/?p=18555

The option to revisit Camp Omega (including something ‘cool’ Kojima talked about earlier, something that has never been done before)

I hope it is still planned.

Not for The Phantom Pain, I don't think.

Ground Zeroes was pretty well optimised, and this is a game designed to run even on last-gen hardware (PS3/360). The CPU demands will likely be quite tame, and your CPU should be sufficient. For example GTA V, similarly, handles itself well with an i5-2500k. Most of the bottleneck would come from your current graphics card.

Your GPU seems to be the element holding your system back from achieving solid performance.

Update: Pulled the trigger on a gtx 960 ftw edition! Best buy price matched newegg at $195 and MGSV with purchase. I'm pumped.

Now I just have to figure out how to acquire the nvidia "gift" of the game. Probably register the video card?

How the hell did you get spotted and killed all the time in MGS4, but enjoy MGS2? Have you considered replaying it on one of the easier difficulties?

The Phantom Pain will also have a companion app.

Can multiple people defend at once? That would make the invaders' life pretty miserable (as it should be!).

I need to know this.

Also if it's possible for the Invader's allies to help invade as well.

There's no coop but multiple players participating in FOB conflicts would be just as good.

I need to stop reading all these fan theories around the net. At this point, I'm going to end up being disappointed when my favorite one of the bunch doesn't come true.

I hope we can make modification to out motherbase using the app

Me too.

It would be awesome if you were say, bored at work and you'd be able to spend some time making adjustments to security, assigning troops to outer-ops and to different Mother Base posts while also building new sections to the base itself.

Technology is quite the marvel.

I know this is early and we don't know what templates we can work with but have we thought about what our emblem will look like?

No idea, maybe someone in the community thread has some nice ideas. If the custom emblem creator comes back from MGO2 we might be able to do cool things.

The amount of stuff you can do in MGSV is staggering, I already know it's going to be my GOTY 2015. I'm going to sink so many hours in the base building part of the game alone. Too bad I probably won't be able to play it until December at the earliest, those couple of months are going to be painful.

Personally I love that you have to wait. Gives the game a bit more depth and character.

As much time as I spent on GZ missions....I feel the same way.

Those not really feeling the base management....the Sims is one of my fav PC games. This is the Sims military style! With Watch Dogs, Souls type invading features.

And whats wild is MB is just one aspect of the game.... I can see making MB huuuge and spending so much time there trying to build the perfect, unstoppable army.

That intruder was no joke.

I'd hate to run into intelligent enemies like that too often.

I can imagine players whose main goals are to invade bases and try to steal all your hard earned shit. Gonna be crazy lol

Can't wait
