Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

Yeah, the 'GZ is a priced demo' argument never flew with me after I got my hands on it.

I was genuinely apprehensive when booting it up (i rented it rather than bought) but after one playthrough i immediately bought it and sent the rental disc back.

It was clear how much content was in Zeroes q even if A to B mission times were tiny and the map was small. All the cassettes, prisoners, S-ranking missions - not to mention the genuinely fun sandbox all by itself. And the world-class gameplay design.

A great little game - and that multiplied by 200 for Phantom Pain? Clench your butts, it's gonna be good!

They released a interactive map with the places we'll be visiting in tpp and it was Africa + Afghanistan, no Australia sadly... If I didn't miss something.

You really think an open world MGS is going to skip out on Australia? Kangaroos! Koala bears! Bogans!

it's honestly kind of misleading if at least ground zeroes' main story mission isn't included in tpp, since nearly every trailer for the game up until now has heavily featured cutscenes from gz

i'm aware. i'm saying that it seems dishonest to market one game using content that's from an entirely separate product.
Like mentioned there could be flashbacks to important scenes. I haven't felt like TPP has been marketed dishonestly though.

Kinda sad I can't get on this hype train, I've never played a MGS game before and I've just spent a couple of fritless hours song a lot in GZ. I don't think this series is for me.

Will gaf implode when V comes out? I remember 4 being pretty crazy around here

I think so. Unlike MGS4, we've seen some pretty meaty gameplay videos for this game, and we've still only scratched the surface of what we can expect with this game. MGS4 was a linear story with a ton of cool details and story bits, but the open nature of this game will create a lot more discussion.

So i fully expect this game to create a ton of OT's before the year is out.

I just love the cutscenes and the camera in this game

Agreed.

I'm really looking forward to hearing about and seeing videos of how people tackle different missions - especially seeing how much variety we've seen in the demos from that one mission alone! It's going to be a lot of fun.

Agreed. 4 wasn't bad, but it was definitely overrated IMO and probably my least favorite MGS game. Wayyyyy too much story, too little gameplay. The scope of MGSV is looking incredible.

Only bummer about these is that you can tell what point of the game they're from due to the camo pattern. That scene is obviously around the Africa deployment so my mind just naturally starts to assemble things on a timeline. As opposed to the static sneaking suit from the older games that could be anywhere in the game etc.

You never know with kojima, it can all be a ruse. You can equip any camo at any time.

Kojima had Snake replace Raiden in the Olga Ninja scene and put it in the Tanker, you can never trust MGS trailers.

In cutscenes, it shows the current camo you are wearing.

watching now... is this mother base stuff just optional? it seems to be very important to the whole game which I dont really care for..

Mother base is very important to the game, you cant really pass certain points of the game without developing it

Not sure about the multiplayer part of it though

If you want to know the time of event all you need to do is look at the shrapmetal in his head, and the length of it.

I started playing Peace Walker on the Vita and while I am actually loving the Mother Base micro management stuff way more than I would expect, the PSP version of this game is doing nothing for me. Even with the camera mapped to the right stick it's really fiddly to aim and the low fps is really off putting. Also seems like the game is balanced more towards playing co-op, especially the bosses.

Looking forward to MGSV hopefully doing the Mother Base stuff right, because I do love the idea of it.

I'm slightly worried about that code..I pre-ordered Ground Zeroes at my local EB, but went there on release date and found out it had been pushed back 2 weeks in AUS, so I bought it from the US PSN store and played on my EU account. Not sure whether I can buy TPP from the EU store and get anything crossing over, or if I should play it safe and buy it from US PSN.

I think the save files will almost definitely be region-locked. I did the same as you, bought GZ from the US PSN store, but when I got it again for free with my Australian PS+ subscription, the save file I'd made with the US version wasn't compatible with the Aus version I'd downloaded and I had to do everything all over again.

I imagine you'll only be able to transfer an EU Ground Zeroes save over to an EU Phantom Pain copy, and US to a US. Hopefully some kindly GAFers might upload their save files from the various platforms and regions of the game; I'm going to spend today extracting all these dudes to carry into MGSV, so I'll see if I can upload my Australian PS4 save file if it might help anyone.

OK, so if anyone's interested, I just uploaded my PS4 Ground Zeroes save, which should be ready to transfer into any UK/EU/AU/NZ version of MGSV (I think. I did it all on an Australian version of the game and the save file itself is called 'MGSVGZSaveDataEU', so I'm assuming it's all one region as far as the game's concerned). It's got all missions completed on Normal and Hard (S-ranked on Normal), all Trophies unlocked, and all staff likely to be transferable to MGSV extracted.

Hopefully it'll be useful for anyone who needs an EU PS4 save file but can't make one for whatever reason (or just can't be bothered :P). Unzip, stick it on a USB drive and copy it to your PS4 and it should be ready to go:

Looks like I'm deleting my US Ground Zeroes and downloading the PS+ one then, I've collected all the soldiers but haven't got 100% yet, so it's no big deal. Cheers.

only POWs I saved were Chico and Paz.
and what would be other Mother Base stuff?

As far as I know there's no official list from Konami, but there's a list floating around on the internet that's basically just every 'special' character across the various missions: POWs, Glaz and Palitz, the two contacts in the 'Retrieve Classified Intel' mission (19 people in total, not counting Chico and Paz). The game gives you a special notification when you load them aboard your chopper, and they're recognised in the post-mission stats screen, so I assume they'll be the ones carried over into MGSV.

Hopefully they'll turn out to be useful staff when transferred to MGSV, but there's really no information at this point.

I have a feeling save files are locked to your account and can't be shared. Haven't personally tried but I feel like that's a given with stuff like trophies etc these days.

One thing I really dont like so far is Snake's outfit designs...

I mean the ones we have seen in demos are pretty crappy imho. The one with the tiger stripes is the best. But all the others seem shitty to me. The full heavy armor one makes him look like a god damned fat mecha. I dont claim that such armor doesnt suit MGS style, just that it's nowhere near as -lets call it- "elegant" as what Shinkawa has used to offer us.

Comparing these designs with Raiden's and Snake's suits in the past (octocamo being my favorite design - wise) these pale in comparison.

I really like the Battle Armour. Gives off a samurai-like vibe to me. I'm guessing there will be some cool head-piece to go with it.

hey, thanks.

will you be able to use characters captured on easy, when playing TPP on normal or hard?

Agreed, especially on the battle dress. You could go the "it's the 80s and they haven't perfected strong armor with reduced size/more mobility" but they've got wormhole and stealth camo tech. Just a design I don't enjoy.

Just double checked and it looks like I was right, the save appears to be locked to your PSN account. Machine won't even pick it up on a USB stick at all.

For anyone with GZ it doesn't take that long to do the side ops and extract at least the named units (I did all the POWs in the main mission but not in the side ops because whatever). I did the Glaz and Palitz mission today, extracting them both, in like 5 minutes.
