Metal Gear Solid V - PC vs. PS4 screenshot comparison

Anyone else dislike the changes they made to this scene?

Looks like they changed the lighting or the cloud cover effects the lighting or there is a filter giving it a different hue. I'm not really sure if I like or dislike that change.

The rest of the scene is a bit of an issue. It looks a difference I would expect between a console and a high end PC. They removed a fair bit of the really close range rocks and additional objects. There also seems to be a similar issue to the OP pics where the lod is reducing geometry and object numbers. Again could be a similar difference to a high end PC version.

Both look good but I like that original picture's extra detail, but I can't decide on the lighting hue / cloud cover effect unless I could see that in the pictures vice versa

The change in lighting was what I noticed initially as well, but since the game has a day/night cycle, I wonder if that's not simply because the two screens have been taken from the same angle, but at different times of day - notice the position of Snake's shadow has changed.

Argh... colors muted and brownified. Almost all life sucked out from the scene :(

Good spot, that seems like a good enough explanation. Having another look at the pictures, I can't tell what are lod changes and what are changes to the actual map. It does seem like there is a quality dip in the last pic though. Those horse seems more dirtied up in the first and things look a bit washed out in the second. Either way, I'm sure we'll get more info soon enough

Maybe the different TOD and weather is to be blamed, but then again, MGS4 had really too much piss filter.

Sun is in the lower position, there is more clouds and the visibility is lower in the 2nd shot.

admitting to piracy is a bannable offense so might want to go over that again.

In all fairness, the guy is facing a really tough decision. The company that is making this game isn't allowing him to legally buy it without jumping through ridiculous hoops. I'm not suggesting that one should actually pirate the game in such a case but I am reminded of Gabe Newell's quote that piracy is mostly a service problem, not a price problem.

They've just added/changed the color filter to a beige-like tone.

I mean, aside from fewer rocks, less grass and different background detail in the far off distance. :P

This wouldn't be the first time we've seen the same bit of footage shown during a different time of day. In the edited version (Sony conference) of this year's E3 trailer, the scene of the child soldier taking the gun from Snake takes place during (what appears to be) early morning, while the same scene takes place seemingly in the middle of the day in the Director's Cut version of the trailer. (Snake's camouflage also differentiates in each version of the trailer.)

Well , about these 2 TPP shots , first one is from 2013 E3 , the time when new consoles weren't released yet. 2nd screen is from 2014 i think from E3 as well or might be gamescom. I do hope PC version will look more like that 1st shot , the change in lighting really kills the feel , also they added bunch of ugliest 2d trees i ever saw in a game

I hope that is actually accurate and the "cutscenes" are not cuts at all and just flow via the in game engine no matter what time of day you do thing.

Will also be amusing if you are free to maybe throw a smoke grenade before the scenes take place for kicks

like it's already been said, that's probably a result of different time of day rather than an altered colour palette... but then again ground zeroes went from more naturalistic earthy tones to a straight up blue filter in the opening cutscene... but then again (again) the gameplay didn't look as blue as that and looked similar if not the same to the reveal

the Afghanistan map shots definitely show reduced foliage however when comparing 2013 to 2014.

It is still retarded and if they do this for MGSV, I going to edit myself.

Fuck Kojinami!

Oh, it's definitely a strange and seemingly illogical restriction. I was just clarifying that the region-lock isn't heavy-handed and so you have alternative options.

I hope that's the case, but if you look at the horse's shadow, it's not that longer to make it look like one it's noon and the other 8pm.
I hope they didn't apply piss filter to the game, even though the Africa footage looked suspiciously over-yellowish.
Besides, don't we have a full 24h cycle of that map, from one of the gameplay demos? Should be easy enough to check whether or not there's time of day without the piss filter.

As Durante said it the LOD is severely ampered in the bottom shot. I don't like the change made to the lighting as well.

I don't demand anything special regarding graphics for PC as I don't feel entitled to anything particular but it would be a wise move if they could improve TPP to the same degree as what we're seeing in GZ.

I think the engine will get better for the phantom pain on PS4, two things I would like them to address is the pop-in/lod issue and to up the anti-aliasing coverage, very impressive engine otherwise.

pop-in, while present in the recent (e3, gamescom, tgs, etc) demos on ps4, looks wayyyyy better than what is seen in ground zeroes. where foliage is popping in like 10 feet away from player. it will definitely be improved on consoles (current gen at least) for TPP

i dont think they changed colors... different ToD, possibly beginning or end of dust storm... and moved assets around... ground debris seems to be less, but trees and further details are more...

well the weather is a factor too, it's more overcast which could be giving it that darker, dustier look. i won't discount the fact the colour palette has been changed though.

i kind of wish that sort of stuff would be left alone. it's like looking at footage from a camera that hasn't had the white balance set correctly.

re: TOD difference, if you watch the E3 2013 trailer, the scene where BB sees the truck through the binoculars and then hops in the back, you can see the TOD is different and that orange/yellow filter is present, looks almost the same as the E3 2014 demo we're comparing.

there's definitely a texture downgrade and probably some lighting, but it's not as bad as people are making out to be. we'd need the same TOD on ps4 to compare

Slightly off topic, but I'm getting more certain that Phantom Pain will arrive a bit late on PC:

Of course that could me a bunch of different things, but it wouldn't surprise me. As long as they do a good job, as they seem to be thus far with Ground Zeroes, I'd be ok with it maybe :P

TPP will likely be more taxing than GZ but I don't think it will be by too much. I won't swear a 760 will achieve 1080p/60fps locked but by the time TPP releases on PC (a bit later than consoles surely) a mid-range GPU will crush this game.

i'm kind of getting the opposite vibes. i think a lot of it might have to do with a.) fans wanting it same day as consoles (so be sure to make yourself heard if you do), and b.) ground zeroes pc sales.

The PC version has better LOD and more light sources on the screen at once. Probably a result of the Fox engine having a further year in development and higher specs available on the PC.

It looks better for sure, but that doesn't mean by extension that the PS4 version looks bad.

I expect PC versions to be a lot better. I have to see that with any game. The forever upgrading PC vs the PS4.

All comparisons of PC vs PS4 always shot the PC version to be slightly better. Nothing that ever wows me though.

I hope the PC version comes with a healthy amount of AA options. Internal downsampling would be nice too. So far only Ryse and Mordor have offered that.

Well with DSR or GeDoSaTo it covers most bases. I doubt they will offer internal SSAA.

Do you have an AMD card?
