Metal Slug 3... Xbox version of Import PS2 version?

The import version let's you continue right where you died.

The XBOX version let's you post your scores online.

What's more important?

There is no slowdown in the XBOX version. I've only played the import once, but I do remember some slowdown; not nearly as bad as the MVS and maybe even better than Kawaks.

You'll beat the PS2 version; I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you won't beat the XBOX, at least not on Normal. I could be wrong.

xbox version also = exclusive side levels.

and also, it's quite possibly the hardest game ever made. so if you're weaksauce and need to finish the game, play it on an emu or the ps2 version.

and also, if you beat it, you achieve satori. Instant enlightenment. I was going to go the whole zen monk route but now everyday I spend some very special time with MS3.

You aren't going to unlock those XBOX side levels until you beat the game.

It's practically a Catch 22.

You could buy the XBOX version and emulate on the side.

Practice in Kawaks to enjoy the slo-free XBOX version and side levels. This will be the hardest game undertaking you'll try this year.

Incorrect.

The hardest game ever made is easily ghosts and goblins. The last level in ghost and goblins is literally impossible.

I can't get past level 2.

:-/

My gf and I play this together with the most continues possible and still get owned constantly.

All those people whining about Ninja Gaiden being difficult (never understood that) don't know what hard is. Metal Slug 3 is the definition of hard.

Shit, I came in here and responded with the exact same spiel as I did a fucking year ago! Caught the date at the last minute.

Obviously I stand by what I said.

As far as Gaiden vs MS3 in terms of difficulty, MS3 mostly takes route and enemy memorization and being able to play the same game flawlessly every time. I believe Gaiden is harder because there is less to memorize and more to react to instantly. You are fighting AI, not scripts.

Also, playing 2p is asking for ownership; just like in Shattered Soldier. Boss life is practially doubled and your partner had better be moving right along with you or you will both prolly get killed.

Also, if you beat the game (common, it's not THAT hard) you get access to this mini-game on fat island or something. Certainly NOT as good as Metal Slug 1 imo.

You all are weak sauce. I used to be able to beat Metal Slug 3 without a continue. Best I ever did was beat it on my 3rd life. If you play it long enough you know what the enemies are going to do and where they are going to shoot from. The FINAL end boss is the most difficult because his attack paterns are somewhat random. Even his can be avoided however.

I used to be able to beat Metal Slug and Metal Slug 2 without dying...never got MSX down though. The enemies and board were set up just different enough to throw me off...I think the best I ever did on that was 3 continues.

I haven't tried doing this with Metal Slug 4 or 5...because they suck. I played MS4 and beat it in one sitting (about 27 continues) and I beat MS5 in 19 continues when it came out when I was over in Japan. That was it...just played them once a piece and that was that.

Anyway, on topic. I have the PS2 import of MS3 and it pretty good. I never heard of the XBox having different extra levels. Are the same extra levels that are in the PS2 import in the XBox version? You play as the three different versions of the MORDEN grunts...

If I had to rank:

MS1
MS3
MS2/X
.
.
.
MS5
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
MS4

And who the hell brought this topic back to life? Just noticed the dates also >_<

I feel the urge building up inside me..

I WILL BEAT STAGE 3 EVENTUALLY

FUCKING ROBOT AND ITS HUGE ASS MISSILE AND LITTLE MISSILES

Metal Slug needs auto-fire
Wrong. Auto fire would waste valuable weapon ammo. The laser, for instance, lasts about twice as long if one taps the button in intervals rather than holding it down, and in both cases it yeilds the same constant fire.

I thoroughly enjoyed the GBA game, but was disappointed severely by MS3 on the X-Box.
I'm ignoring insolent imperitives and instead impose an inquisition.

Why?

"The hardest game ever made is easily ghosts and goblins. The last level in ghost and goblins is literally impossible."

ANECDOTAL : I was able to finish Ghost and Goblins on one credit as a kid... i think i'm happy if i can get thru MS3 on 30 credits.

Theoretically, I can get to the final boss of MS3 without dying, because I know how to get through any given section of my chosen route, excluding that boss. Levels 1-4 I will absolutely destroy with Greats.

In reality, I'll proabably fuck up in that room on the mothership where the large red walkers first appear, and if not there, then I'll slip when escaping from the zombies.

On an average run, I can nearly complete the last level before I continue, which means dick on the Xbox version. But even if I could get there, that final boss will most certainly get me.
Dirty, dirty bastard.

I'm stoked. Time to bust out the emu again and get back to work.

It's a slight sacrifice, but it beats having to mash the button an unspeakable amount of times.

I can manage auto-fire with the special weapons well enough, can't you?

I wanna burn all the blue asteroids before they waste my rocket ship, and I don't wanna run out of laser halfway through because I relied on auto fire.

I wanna take out every soldier with my knife while running down the hill so I save all my chaser for the coptors, hit the red one right off and waste the whole row and still have enough to take out the next two singles before zombies and chaingun soldiers close in on me. Auto fire would not allow perfect knifing rythym.

But yeah, maybe I don't know the game as well as you.

Dude, I've been on this damn forum for a damn year and I've asked that damn question every damn time that damn avatar has appeared.

Bastard won't tell.

Oh, and good lookin' out the other night.

She looks like the ex-Spice Girl that is maried to Beckham.

ArcadeStickMonk, you're a hell of a detective, this picture almost proves that this is in fact the girl we are talking about.

Well, she seems to do these kinds of "weapons" pics, so although I didn't find exactly the pictures from his avatar, it seems more and more likely that this is the girl.

Xbox version beats the PS2 version. Xbox version has less slow down and generally looks nicer (the PS2 version is more grainy).

The Xbox has no extra content over the PS2 version however.

Metal Slug 3 for the Xbox isn't quite as bad as it may seem at first since you get the level select ability. The last level is still incredibly brutal though...

For all of you trying to reach perfection in Metal Slug games (really it is enlightenment) here is my best advice:

Use the Metal Slugs to your advantage...if you jump in/out of them your are invinceable for about a second. This will get you out of a lot of jams...

This will pay huge especially for the FINAL boss in MS3. Give it a try...besides that you just need to play it so much that you know paterns, what enemies will do and conserve grenades. The FINAL boss will take over 40 grenades and 10 cannon shot and still keep on going...thats the most I've ever brought in to that fight.

It's Masumi Max...and those pictures are the complete set.

Anyway, I had about 25 private messages in my inbox asking who it was. It got kinda annoying so I stopped answering. I've been to lazy to switch to another one...

I was able to get to the final boss of MS3. It took me months to get to that point. What a fun game it was though. MS4 and MS5 are still good games (fuck the haters).

Surely you mean Super Ghouls N Ghosts, right? You know, the one with the "double jump" unavoidable deaths and of course, the good ole' "Now you must finish it again to really save the Princess!" bullshit? Oh what a treat that was.

I was talking about the NES version. The arcade version is actually possible to beat and a much better game overall. I tried like a billion times to beat GnG on the NES and I can never get past the final level. Most frustrating game I have ever played.

I don't think I suck at games either because this is probably the only game that I can think of that was impossible for me to beat. And I foolishly try again every few years thinking I have come up with some brilliant solution to get past the army of red devils on the ladders, but nope they all fail and I feel like murdering someone at the end of it.

Supposedly some people have beat it, but I think they are all liars personally or used emulation or some cheat. This game truly is evil.

The NES GnG is 100x harder than Super GnG. Super Ghouls n Ghosts is actually a great game that is possible to finish.

Are Metal Slug 4 and 5 worth $30? The Xbox compilation comes out in August (for some reason I'm totally opposed to purchasing the PS2 version).

You know, I actually finished the NES one. Sure it was tough, but so was almost every NES game I remember. Ninja Gaiden, anyone? I guess it all comes down to my skills diminishing. The SNES Super G&G I found impossible to make it through twice--while in college, I actually left my SNES on for a week straight trying to get past the "revolving" tower stage:

Now that I have the Saturn collection w/ the level select cheat, the real ending shall be mine. Mine I say!!

I suppose it's not that bad, but I find it to be a real inconvenience to not have auto-fire in this kinda game.
You're playing with a pad, trying to rapid fire with your thumb, that's your problem.

You should see me on a stick; I get my whole arm into it. Taking out the walls towards to end of the vertical shooters section with the defualt weapon borders on full muscle exhaustion.
It's hot shit.

I think Happ Competition buttons are ideal for this game.
I played with Sanwa a few weeks back and my fire mashing would scrape the jump and nearly cost me a life.
I think the aural and tactile feedback of a microswitch pushbutton is well suited here.

Just re-played this game just now... awesome stuff. Level 4 is hard though :(

I'll respect whoever can finish this game with 1 credit...

hell yes. arcade stick all the way for this game.
Is it? I play with the standard PS2 pad cuz it has vibrations... should I use my Neo Geo Stick II instead?
