one of the best gameboy games. actually worth playing imo.
it's not canon tho, it's an alternate universe where Metal Gear 2 never happened.
You should also experience Twin Snakes, at least if just to see what a "modern" take on an all-time classic looks like...and if the (untoward) hate is justified or not.So, PS1 emulated version it is with the texture pack and CRT filter.
I can't fucking believe those schmucks haven't made a proper port of one of the most legendary games of all time.
The soundtrack in Twin Snakes is genuinely disgusting, the Sniper Wolf scene is so bad in comparison it's embarrassing. And the boss music, like what the fuck were they thinking.Even with the implementation of improved graphics and gameplay, they removed an important aspect in twin snakes compared to
The original: the soundtrack and the tone.
The original felt more emotional and the soundtrack played a big part of it.
So yeah, avoid twin snakes and get the original with duckstation.
Og mei ling was great. I like authentic Chinese. She's also a quote machine. Will never understand the hate hard-on Twin Snakes gets. Is it the best Remake ever? No. Is it a decent re-imagining of the first game with great visuals and updated mechanics with improved voice overs (sorry but stereotype Mei-Ling was so bad Kojima cannonically corrected it)? Yes.
Definitely give Twin Snakes a play to see how an updated/modern re-take on MGS is.
The cube version was completely rebuilt from scratch and re-mocapped with Kojima's input and is the only one worth playing now from a technical standpoint as holding up as a modern game IMO, but only after you've experienced it fully on PlayStation first - because as others have said the tone of the game changes with Nintendo's little additions that are only easy to ignore, later if you have a reference experience without them.I've been meaning to get into this series for well over 20 years, but it just never happened. I played a bit of a few games without ever really committing. I figured I'd just start from the beginning.
What's the best version of the original Metal Gear? PS1 emulator? Twin Snake on Game Cube? The collection that just came out?
I own a GC, Xbox One X, PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch, and a gaming PC, so what should I go for?
Exactly.I have played them all, master collection is fine unless you are autistic

Arkham Origins is also better than Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.
PS1 version via duckstation.
Original graphics effects retained + can run in 4K or higher + working wide-screen hacks in the emulator + you can also find texture mods online.
Laugh all you want of this version. It was actually very immersive. And the stealth worked perfectly fine in NES 2D.
Man I loved this game back in the day. It was really impressive on GBC. I had a friend who also owned it and we would play competitive multiplayer via link cable. Good times.
The best metal gear is in my opinion MGS3, the story and the gameplay are greatI've been meaning to get into this series for well over 20 years, but it just never happened. I played a bit of a few games without ever really committing. I figured I'd just start from the beginning.

I found it fiddly and unexciting for the first hour or so and dropped playing both my ps2 and 3ds copies. The best metal gear is in my opinion MGS3, the story and the gameplay are great
My recommendation is that you wait for mgs3 delta and start from there with the franchise
MGS5 is fantastic too, it has one of the best gameplays in the videogame space, but the story is not that great unfortunately.

Am I incredibly wrong? I have been eyeing up the switch mgs collection (despite owning two copies of each 3d game :-/).
Best version of every single entry bar MGSV is the Playstation version without a doubt. Only platform to get the original release, as well as the mist content in all expanded versions. Its not a debate.I've been meaning to get into this series for well over 20 years, but it just never happened. I played a bit of a few games without ever really committing. People disliking Twin Snakes are just sour it was GC exclusive
Negative. They destroyed the OST, made the cut scenes way more cringe, and Jesus Christ that GC controller was horrid to play a MGS game with.People disliking Twin Snakes are just sour it was GC exclusive
It certainly seems like it. The voice changes are barely noticeable and the cutscenes are of the time.. plus its not exactly ridiculous compared to what came after...People disliking Twin Snakes are just sour it was GC exclusive
"Mimimi I am too edgy to like the cutscenes and I don't like the controller so the game is bad mimimi"Negative. They destroyed the OST, made the cut scenes way more cringe, and Jesus Christ that GC controller was horrid to play a MGS game with.
I remember liking the grey fox stuff more in the twin snakes, but being sad that the music didn't hit the same towards the end. The ps1 music was so good. The new stuff with Grey Fox is infinitely better in Twin Snakes.
I watched a YouTube video from 9yrs ago today that showed how to mod the psx soundtrack into Twin Snakes. If they could restore the colouring (especially the Vulcan Raven area) and give choice of soundtrack Konami would be 70% to a great definitive edition. The fps gun mode would also need some balancing to be fair.I remember liking the grey fox stuff more in the twin snakes, but being sad that the music didn't hit the same towards the end. The original had a levitating mind reader, cyber ninja and giant mechs. Yes it had less ott scenes than twin snakes, but it was still about as mature as a comic book.Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes is a ridiculous reinterpretation of a classic masterpiece.
With over-the-top action scenes like Snake backflipping off walls and landing on a launched missile, it turns the tense and grounded tone of the original into something comically absurd.
What was once a masterpiece of stealth and atmosphere is overshadowed by exaggerated, almost cartoonish spectacle. It's as if the game forgot it was supposed to be a suspenseful stealth experience and decided to audition for a circus instead.
So, do yourself a favor and stay away from it.
