Meteorite crash in Russia

What if those were missiles launched from another planet as a warning shot

Here's my dash cam set-up. Triple cameras, 2 front (1 is a close-up view), 1 rear. They automatically record, continuously overwriting the oldest file so I never have to deal with file management and have a buffer of a few hours so it's easy to save anything that's interesting. I could fit one more camera into the module since it supports four total but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Haven't recorded anything particularly interesting yet (USA resident), but that should probably make me more relieved than anything

If this story and those videos are real.... we're fucked. They're just screwing around with us right about now and they can invade any time they want to....

Meaning...

Aliens are real (aka what "God" really is).
Or God is real.
Or our Universe/existence really is a hologram.
Or this is part of one expensive hoax.

Take your pick!

Because "they" are doing exactly what I asked them to.

And that video I posted the other day in the paranormal thread about Area 51 being "declassified" was bullshit because they got the idea for that little coverup from me.

Hopefully nearly no one (outside of military/Navy/Defense Gaf) knows what I'm talking about or why I'm saying these things.

I didn't see this posted. It's from The Associated Press.

Meteor falls in Russia, 700+ injured

MOSCOW (AP) — A meteor streaked through the sky and exploded Friday over Russia's Ural Mountains with the power of an atomic bomb, its sonic blasts shattering countless windows and injuring more than 750 people. The spectacle deeply frightened thousands, with some elderly women declaring the world was coming to an end.
The meteor — estimated to be about 10 tons — entered the Earth's atmosphere at a hypersonic speed of at least 54,000 kph (33,000mph) and shattered about 30-50 kilometers (18-32 miles) above the ground, the Russian Academy of Sciences said in a statement. It released the energy of several kilotons above the Chelyabinsk region, the academy said. Amateur video broadcast on Russian television showed an object speeding across the sky about 9:20 a.m. local time, just after sunrise, leaving a thick white contrail and an intense flash."There was panic. People had no idea what was happening. Everyone was going around to people's houses to check if they were OK," said Sergey Hametov, a resident of Chelyabinsk, a city of 1million about 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) east of Moscow. "We saw a big burst of light, then went outside to see what it was and we heard a really loud thundering sound," he told The Associated Press by telephone. The explosions broke an estimated 100,000 square meters (more than 1 million square feet) of glass, city officials said. The city administration said 758 people sought medical care after the explosions and most were injured by shards of glass. Athletes at a city sports arena were among those cut up by the flying glass. It was not immediately clear if any people were struck by space fragments. Another Chelyabinsk resident, Valya Kazakov, said some elderly women in his neighborhood started crying out that the world was ending. City officials said 3,000 buildings in the city were damaged by the shock wave, including a zinc factory where part of the roof collapsed. Small pieces of space debris —usually parts of comets or asteroids— that are on a collision course with the Earth are called meteoroids. They become meteors when they enter the Earth's atmosphere. Most meteors burn up in the atmosphere, but if they survive the frictional heating and strike the surface of the Earth they are called meteorites.

Forgive the formatting.

BBC science correspondent just said the asteroid was going "faster than the speed of light" and then got corrected by the anchor. Good stuff.

Trust no one.

This shit is straight out of a science-fiction movie. Would be incredible to witness first-hand.

Unless you're showered with broken glass afterwards, of course.

Not really, no. But, Russia is a big country. So, who knows?

Heh. Well, the city the airburst smashed windows in is at 55N where 9am sunrise is not really unusual for this time of year. In the mountains, too, I think. If it'd happened a month ago all these videos would look like night.

Glorious mother Russia SMASHES AND CRUSHES meek puny asteroid. Take that, you cosmic vermin!

Seriously, this is one of the most amazingly cool things to be captured on camera ever. I wonder if we ought to start a serious multi national effort at monitorizing these type of space treaths, with actual plans of contingency in the case some of these asteroids comes too near our planet.

Just saw this... unbelievable. Any reliable info how big the meteor was?

edit: Also, stupid question - but do meteors start rolling as they hit the ground or does it stay at the spot?

10-11 tons of rock, around 2 meters in diameter. Pretty small.

There is no rock that can hold its integrity after crashing to Earth at "space" speeds.

That will only happen if there were mass casualties and/or a city or town was obliterated by a meteor/asteroid strike. Take a look at how the cable news people are treating this event. They are making wise-cracks while reporting. CNN has countdown clock for an asteroid that will miss us for crying out loud.

Lawrence Krauss will be talking about it on TV today too. "The meteor that fell in Russia today was only about 10-30% of all the material falling on the earth today from space."

Not only that, but people also supposedly damage their own propery (breaking windows) in order to get government compensation, according to some publications in Russian media (http://lenta.ru/news/2013/02/15/windows/).

A few years ago, I saw something very similar to this, except it occured at night. It was a large green blob moving across the sky fairly slowly. At first, I thought it was the northern lights, but when I reflected on it I realized what I had witnessed! I had seen shooting stars before - they're flashes of light that you'll miss if you blink. But this was a slow and bright moving blob that traversed the sky like a huge rainbow. I'm glad I had a chance to see something that spectacular and relatively rare. These videos brought back that memory.

I want/need your setup. I said I'd get to tinkering with my car once I get more settled down though. I have your site bookmark from when you started doing custom SF Arcade sticks.

The meteorite news is scary though.

Apparently, the meteorite that exploded over Russia was the same size as the one that crashed in Arizona (and created that crater). Only difference was that the one in Arizona was more compact and had more iron and nickel (according to CNN)

Yes, this is one they didn't know about

which goes to illustrate exactly how vulnerable we are, by-the-by

You know, thats what I'm reminded of. There was some special on about the amount of objects we just simply don't have the budget/time to track. That its a very, very, realistic threat to be hit by unknown asteroids.

This is terrifying that it can just happen like this without any real warning.

But they said they're systems are not designed to detect objects of that size..i'm hoping they'd be able to detect bigger objects that pose much of a threat.

Would it be possible to have some near earth object defense system, or is that something outside our reach with current tech?

Like I said the other night, i'll take an airburst over impact. Lesser of two evils and all that, definitely better than this:
