Looks like Russian air defense shot down the meteorite according to military sources.
In some of the videos with clearer sound it does sound like something is getting hit multiple times.

Not believable considering the impact. Wouldn't there be no impact if that was the case?
The smaller explosions might be debris that were coming apart from it, hitting the ground.
edit: Russians always first at everything thing space related, even blowing up a meteorite![]()
Wasn't the "impact" a sonic boom?
incredible!!
so did it just disintegrate before hitting the ground? and that was the sound from it blowing up in the sky? I think it didn't strike anywhere right?
What, did they use a nuke to blow it up? Come on. Very unlikely.
Probably a little of both. The object, or parts of it, causing a sonic boom, or the thing exploding in the atmosphere. Meteorites coming into the atmosphere are going so insanely fast, that when they hit the "pretty thick" atmosphere (compared to the density of space) they just explode. They're going about, like, what, 28,000 mph when they hit the atmosphere. So they get into the upper layer, start to burn, then hit the lower layer about 80,000 feet up and go KA fucking BLOOOEY. I don't think it would be possible to shoot it down. Maybe that was a joke, or...?Wasn't the "impact" a sonic boom?

har har.
I assume the sound was from the meteor braking the sound barrier within our atmosphere.
I think it has to be it'd just be too much of a coincidence otherwise. That's just my plebeian knowledge of these things speaking, though. If I wake up tomorrow morning and there's additional meteorite strikes that have been reported, I might be concerned.I wonder if it is related to that giant meteor that is supposed to pass by earth tomorrow? I think it's supposed to be at 2:25 PM est.
I have to thank the Russians for their love of filming morning drives to work.

Didn't know RT was a banned site
man these videos are fucking incredible, just a small taste of how terrifying it would be if an impeding meteor that would do real damage to the planet started come through the atmosphere. wowzers.
Incredible.
Someone said Chloe?
Also can someone explain to me why every single car, person and toilet has a camera in Russia? Is there some law that one must have a camera on person at all time to record crimes or some shit?
I mean it seems overkill even by modern everyone has a cellphone standards, not that I'm complaining 'cause this is amazing

I thought he was saying the sonic boom was from blowing it up.

The video from the ru site.
That is fucking TERRIFYING.
I was horrified watching thinking a huge explosion or crash would follow.
There should be loads of footage from this in the coming days, tons of russians have a camera in their car + cellphones
edit: same one, diff angle, there's a lot of videos

i heard it was because of the high amount of insurance fraud in russia. Also can someone explain to me why every single car, person and toilet has a camera in Russia? Is there some law that one must have a camera on person at all time to record crimes or some shit? lo

0:15 was where my life started flashing infront of my eyes. WELP. GAME OVER MAN.

That quality is pretty crazy. Can actually see the shockwave there.
On the geological timescale, it is very frequent. Tunguska was just over one hundred years ago. I think it is more common than our lifetimes give it credit. editAccording to Wikipedia, we get hit by a meteor of about 4 meters in diameter roughly once a year, and 7 meters in diameter every five years. While not terribly common, this isn't necessarily related to the other.
I wonder at what Mach the meteorite was going.
The road rules may be more loose than here, but don't be like all of YouTube and assume just because people are recording more accidents there, that they actually happen more. Its a corruption problem with police and the courts and insurance companies having none of that bullshit by requiring video proof to get paid or settlements. You've seen how they drive, right?
I DON'T believe that this really happened, and I still wouldn't believe it even if someone gave me a million dollars. I would still stand my ground.
