Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, overview trailer (Switch 2)

Metroid Prime is a Masterpiece, but the best one is MP2, the weak will cry about going into a planet that kills you while you casually stand looking.

All 3 games are excellent, there's nothing quite like them, that's why I've been waiting for this almost half of my life.

I think Beyond will be an amazing experience.
Agreed about MP2. I didn't like echoes as much as prime on the first play through but when I replayed them on hard mode echoes really won me over. I'd say Corruption is kinda meh compared to the other two but still alright. And for this new one I guess we'll see. Some very mixed signals in the promotional material so fingers crossed. Dread didn't seem like much before launch and that was really good so here's hoping.

Lmao, is this from saints row? Which one ws it?

Metroid Prime, the original, is a masterpiece. Top 10. Combat, OST, exploration, upgrades. The pinnacle of 3D metroidvanias. Watched the video of Prime 4 and im shocked. It got the Microsoft anti-quality treatment. Jesus.

Suffice it to say I think we all hope that this isn't the case and we end up disagreeing.

I think MP3 > MP2. Echoes has its moments but 3/4 of its environments are usually visually dull. The Temple Grounds is mostly a desert. Agon Wastes is another desert. Torvus Bog is a gray, nasty swamp. And all the while you're watching a repetitious cutscene hopping to and from a world that is poisonous to navigate.

I still like it overall and even 100%ed it, but I did find it pretty tedious at points.

Conversely I think MP3 is underrated. The game just feels fun to play, with great pacing and much more beautiful areas. I feel like everyone thinks of the chatter-heavy opening hour and forgets the varied, natural beauty of Bryyo, the imposing mechanical Pirate Homeworld, and the lusciously steampunk skyland of Elysia. I also preferred the stacking beams, the motion controls, the lasso, and that spooky derelict ship. Plus we finally get some Mother Brain. Corruption is just a good time.

Agreed, love them all but I'd put Prime 1 and 3 above 2 as well.

This feels kinda surreal. I'm a big Metroid fan and each time a new one is released, it always means something to me. The original Prime trilogy are some of my all-time favorite games, the first one is extra special to me and I had kinda given up hope years after 3 was released, that we'd see another one. But when we got the teaser in 2017, my heart went RACING, and as time went on, the thirst for images, video, just some info, got bigger and bigger but then, after a looooong wait, it started to get draining and disappointing. I did however have faith in Nintendo and Retro Studios, that they would deliver as always. Just be patient, I thought. More years of waiting with nothing to see. Now it feels surreal to be here. No more years of waiting for this thing. No more lack of info. The game is out in 3 days and I might get nervous to start the game in fear of another huge wait after I finish it :messenger_tears_of_joy: Congrats to all Metroid fans, we're almost there!

I hope he is gone real fast.

I just watched a youtube video which referenced this post on reddit from a guy who apparently got a physical copy early and has played 5 hours:

Read the comments

TL;DR is: The Myles character is there a lot at the start and also at other points throughout but they didnt feel he was ruining things and you are left alone mostly. That gives me a good bit of hope that he and the other troopers aren't going to be something that ruins the game's atmosphere for me.

I think the trailer probably focuses on them because Nintendo views it as an easy way to create a narrative within the trailer and make you want to find out what they are doing/talking about. As opposed to a bunch of shots of Samus wordlessly fighting, moving and looking around and solving puzzles.

Personally I'd prefer the latter, but they're trying to sell it to new players, for better or worse.

Just read a single mention of Myles in the post above and instantly scrolled past the rest.

Whatever was written, shouldn't it be in spoiler tags? Or not in this thread at all?

The game hasn't even been released and this isn't a thread for people who are currently playing it or have finished it.

Are people just going to be casually posting what happens in an unreleased game?

I hope I can turn off voice volume separately because side yappers when I'm doing stuff very quickly spoil a game for me.

Absolutely fair, I've spoilered it now, I'll wait until the OT is created for this kind of discussion from here on.

The Vi-O-La suit is an upgrade, you start out with the classic Varia suit.

This is my new favourite suit, originally the Light Suit from MP2 was, but this is just sublime. I hope theres at least one more suit that changes the model significantly outside colour changes to this one.

I was looking back through the suit progression from all the games and while I love the colours of the final one from Metroid Prime and at least one suit from each title, I've realised that MP2 and Dread are kind of alone in having significant changes to the model vs. mostly just colour changes in the other titles, especially MP1.

On another note I love that the ball has changes for each suit or ball upgrade too, like getting the Spiderball in MP1 and how the Phazon suit ball looks.

Definitely the best looking suit she has ever had.

Anyone have a guess on when the reviews are coming out ? I don't remember if nintendo allow the review a day before or two days before the actual release ? i'll have to check what it was for bananza, MK World, etc.

I haven't seen anything concrete, but it's usually sometime 24-48h before release. That was the case for DK, MK and Kirby at least.

Is there any way to see samus in her tight suit in the game at all?
Unlikely.

Bring back the days when the bikini reveal was a bonus for skill players.

Or bring back Zero Mission's mix, which was the old NES/SNES space horror, but faster, and with a bit more anime and zero suit thrown in for fun. I increasingly feel that the franchise hit a peak at that moment, never to return. Those Mercury Steam games just don't do it for me, things fell off hard.

Surprise surprise /s

Most sane peoples could predict this. Peoples reacted like its a god of war Atreus situation
It's too early to celebrate. Atreus was a real thing that really happened after all. It's reasonable for sane people to be thinking that Metroid may be imitating inferior games/movies after seeing some evidence to support that. Even if Miles only ruins a small part of the game and is gone, there could be other npcs yapping at you with modern movie quality dialogue. They'll be able to enrich the game with great observations like "you're on fire, but you probably already knew that!"

Well said. This will almost certainly be the case even if the hand holding doesn't reach Atreus levels, which is the worst I've seen in a AAA game. Between the open areas in between proper levels that are time wasters and the Myles stuff, that's already a clunky of the game that is irrevocably damaged that none of the other Primes made us suffer through. Replay value will be hurt. Metroidvanias should not have handholding, period. Tutorializing is fine when used correctly in the beginning of the game.

Im still excited for it and hoping it doesnt completely ruin the experience like Atreus mostly did for me but im expecting the worst. We have enough evidence to be worried as franchise after franchise across the AAA industry has been following these trends. I also predict this will be the easiest Prime game by a good margin.

I'm not super hopeful but I've got to go in to this game and see it for myself since I have such a strong love of the older games.

Maybe I'm wrong. But that annoying character who sounds like they were written by a millennial cat lady attempting to imitate Joss Whedon dialogue is just one of many concerning signs.
