Metroid Prime 4 disappointment

To me metroid is one of the only series nintendo has that should be for adult audiences and should have adult themes behind it. They keep playing it safe by giving us light story elements but it's few and far between and at the end of the day samus aran feels more like a robot and cyborg than a woman who's in a suit. Develop the woman as a character so that when she gets into the suit we give a crap about keeping her alive and we have background information/good storytelling driving us on the adventure. The series flatout has stagnated cause they're not willing to take any risks with it. That's just my opinion cause i'm an adult and I need good stories in my games nowadays cause it gives me a motivation to keep playing said game.
Agree with this so much. Samus as a character is dumb, is a trained dog, she doesn't question, she just goes and get the stick, in MP4 she's told that she is the chosen one, mentioned in the ancient prophecy and there she goes on a quest with no real purpose that makes sense to her. When she's is at home, she buys all the crap that is offered to her by door to door sales people.
Yes, good stories build better experiencies.
I for one. I would like her to be a First Person shooter with missions, and the levels could be as intricate as MP1. She is a bounty hunter, but she is not going after anyone in particular, a gang or something, always is something dumb, like space pirates.
A fast action game, in First Person, with a great story. Even if she is going solo, she must be answering to some higher up, this general idea of a Federation just sucks. They don't even explain why Sylux is attacking the base at the beginning.

One of the annoying things about Prime is that it is very tropey.

The series is kind of paint by numbers instead of trying new things.

I liked Metroid Fusion because it puts Samus in a desparate situation. She has to get her health back and is stalked by a killer version of herself.

I also don't understand those considering this a technical marvel. Yes, 4k 60fps HDR is nice but the assets, animation, and interactivity are positively ancient. I guess the effort that goes into AAA games really is wasted if so many people can't see this.

I think it's less that it's a technical marvel and more that it's nice to see a game that's prioritizing image clarity and smooth, responsive gameplay over pushing the envelope with effects. It might not have the bells and whistles, but at least I can see what's in front of me for a change.

My big disappointment is the game still hasn't arrived on my doorstep lol.

I was pretty happy NoA at least sent out the game early and via 2 day Fed Ex. But 2 day has turned into 5 days.

I do appreciate that, but then I'm taken right out of things when I see my soldier friends moving about like they're in Half Life.

And then you play Fusion and the game is very different from all other entries before it. And then you play Prime 2, and it expanded a ton over the first game and introduced many new items and ideas. So no, I think the series can and has innovated quite a bit in the past.

Gonna have to disagree on both counts. It is clumsy in control and general design. Somewhat of a bore to go through the story, completely uninteresting to freely explore. It is well behind every major name in the adventure shooter genre. Games have been substantially better than this for at least 15 years. It is a 6 at best.

I mean to really make my point, you can go all the way back to Resistance 2 and it makes this game look like a joke.
Was speaking more to technical aspects, not overall design philosophy. It looks great and it runs great.

Just picked this up from the Target promo a couple of week ago.
Please tell me it gets better.
I feel like I am playing a mobile game. Everything is bland and the same, walk into an area and 2 or 3 enemies pop up. Use an item to open a door, rinse repeat.
I didn't get that from Donkey Kong Bananza, that feels like a real modern game.

I thought it was wearing the skinsuit of Metroid. Like so many franchises end up in.

Dread I liked very much, the developer understood what kind of atmopshere, flow and tension Metroid is about. I feel like they can only improve further.

But Retro Studios and that retired Metroid director / producer really don't seem to get what Metroid is. Their focus was completely off with that cartoon villain, the cartoon sidekicks and the quite disgustingly basic level design.
It feels like even the guys who did Metroid Pinball knew better.

The high-points for me were Ice Belt and Flare Pool from what I recall. Then it was downhill from there.

So if you've already completed those and still feel that way..

I'm like 30% through and there hasn't been any platforming either. Did any of these people ever play an older Metroid game before developing this? It's like they just looked at some screenshots.

Personally I love it, maybe half way trough the game right now and i love the atmosphere and beautiful visuals (switch 2). Still a bit rusty when it comes to the controls, but coming from ps5/xbox so that is to be expected. I have switched the A/B buttons now so my brain is having a easier time connecting those, but those x/y buttons are still messing with my brain sometimes.
Metroid prime 1 and 3 where some of my favorite games on the gamecube/wii and this one is a great followup. Is it a 10/10 game? No, but well worth your time if you are a fan of the 3d series.

I've been slogging through it for the past few weeks, an hour at a a time. I'm currently in the lava level. It's not terrible, certainly not great, but then I never enjoyed the original Metroid Prime and skipped all the sequels until this one. Just wanted to play this because there's nothing else on Switch 2 at the moment.

I dislike having to scan everything to figure out what the hell it's meant to be. Is this generic sci-fi blob a critical item that's going to unlock the way forward, or is it just scenery with some metadata? You won't know until you scan the bastard.

The controls are very poor - normally it's one button to shoot, but on the bike it's a different button, and if you're rolled up in a ball it's a different button again, and a different button for jump too. Some doors open when you shoot them, but others make you hold a button to activate them. What genius came up with that?

Kind of having to force myself to pick it up again. Haven't played since last week, when I got killed by a shitty laser robot that I couldn't damage and had to go right back to the start of the level.

Should have bought Metroid Prime Remastered.

Even putting aside Metroid, it's insane to me that this studio has seemingly fallen so far from creating Tropical Freeze, arguably one of the most inspired, expertly designed and charming games I've ever played.

This was definitely a big miss, and it's a problem they made for themselves since all the old gams had it figured out. When you pulled up your scanner, actually important shit was highlighted in red while everything else was green. No idea why they would've changed this.

It is too bad, but Tropical Freeze was almost 12 years ago now. the turnover since then, especially for a Western dev, would've been huge. There's shades of the same inspiration in there, but MP4 really comes across as a technically competent, but lesser dev taking a crack at a Metroid Prime game. I'm really interested in what version they cancelled.

on the last key
game sucks so far
hopefully you get all the keys and go somewhere that doesnt suck

enemies dont even have ragdoll physics like they had in MP1
even if they do, bodies disintegrate so fast you cant tell

NPCs are from like nickelodeon jr

you basically fight one enemy the entire time and a variety of beetles

scanning stuff is like "this is a computer, and it's turned off", "this is a transport vehicle, and it has room for two people".
