Metroid: Zero Mission talk

So, I picked up Metroid: Zero Mission for the Game Boy Advance recently, and spent about a half hour fooling around with it this afternoon on my lunch break. It was hard to find - I had to go to three stores to track it down, and it was even full price. It's no longer for sale new at any of the major game-store websites, so I assume that means it's out of print already.

I dig it - the remixed music - nay, I will call it a re-score, as it has the same tunes as ye olde NES version, but much richer, and more - scrumtralicious. Yes, scrumtralicious. Even the title flashes colors and has a little shimmer-thing that wends its way around the words in a cool little homage to the first game.

It also seems a bit easier than the original, from what I remember, but it controls so much more smoothly that I'll forgive the challlenge deficit and just enjoy the nostalgia.

Yeah, so how about that Zero Mission?

I liked it.. it was a little easy, and the ending stuff is cool / retarded at the same time. But overall I enjoyed it.

The best part about this game is that they reward you for successful time runs and sequence breaks (the only way to truly enjoy the desgin of a Metroid game IMO). If you just try to beat the game straight through it will be fun but easy. If you try to hit each difficulty level for % items and for time runs the game is incredible. Trying to beat the game on hard with only one missle tank was a sublime experience.

I loved Zero Mission. It's one of my favorite GBA games along with CV:AoS & Wario Ware. I'd say it's pretty much perfect in every category. Unlockable original Metroid was nice bonus as well.
Now if only Nintendo would bring out similar update for Metroid 2...

I'm grinding my way through hard while trying to keep a good time, got to Kraid early - finally. I just suck at Metroid games. The game is enjoyable on Normal with the first play through, as was Fusion. Both excellent GBA games.

Zero Mission is pretty sweet. I think i actually dug it slightly more then Fusion. My only regret is that the game is just so damned short.

You can unlock the original Metroid? That's a pretty cool easter egg. How do you go about doing that?

The music was one of my favorite parts of the game. They basically took the original's music, injected some Metroid Prime, and then re-did it. Also, some of the art seems infused with Metroid Prime. Some of later areas definetly remind you of Metroid Prime. I remember playing the original and I remember it kicking my ass. I beat it though. This time through, it was much easier, but that is just a minor greavance. The game is still great, and it's definetly not one to pass up.

Heh, funny this thread should come up as I had been playing the original Metroid on my Zero Mission cartridge last night. I forgot how long it took to go up and down those vertical corridors in the original! :lol

Zero Mission is fantastic. Such a great remake. I've played through it like 10 times already. Doesn't take me long as I can beat it in about 4 hours but I just love the game. Like another poster mentioned, it's all about trying different things in each playthrough to see how you can sequence break the game. Personally, I enjoyed the extra tacked on ending to the game (Won't ruin the surprise) and what you can do towards the end. :D

The thing that made Zero Mission easier for me was the amount of Chozo statues. In the original, there were less of them, and they were spread further apart. In Zero Mission, they are much more abundandant and you have a map. Of course, these are the revisions you make to sell the game to the not-so-hardcore crowd.
