Big money has managed to keep AMLO from the presidency by selling the idea that keeping Mexico in line with the West's economic policies is on the best interest of the Mexican people. If that line goes away, USA is two years removed from having an hostile goverment on its borders.

That is also true, the USA may lose latin america to China if they keep pushing Mexico.

But don't think it will happen, money talks, and we have to remember that NAFTA is not only a more than half a trillion trade agreement, but it also helps American companies do business in Mexico and Canada, it helps investors move capital between the countries, it would be such a reboot for the region. Is just a question of who will give up first, Trump or Peña.

I really cannot believe Peña has more guts than Trudeau. The latter is a coward.
There's no sign yet of Trump of antagonising Canada. No need for Trudeau to be aggressive like Pena. Some might not like it but what Trudeau is doing is the best approach he can do on the situation.

Because they can do it without Trump with Pence as president too.

Then the fall guy is gone. Right now they can push all the crazy shit they want. Voting suppression is a thing they always wanted they are getting it. Most likely. Once all their crazy ideas are gone and they start losing money. Then possible I can see him getting impeached.

If I had to guess probably right before 2020 so they make it seem like we pushed him out vote for us.

Dear America why do you think health care is bad?
In Europe (Germany, Austria,..) it's such a normal thing and when we need something bigger we aren't broke a fucking lifetime.

But I guess building a wall is better spent money right? Right???
1. "It's financially unsustainable" Americans don't fucking bother looking outside their own country to see what's happening in the rest of the world
2. "Yeah but those countries are small. Ours is big!" Idiocy
3. "It's socialist/communist" A propaganda win from the right
4. "But then the welfare moochers will steal my tax dollars" Hatred and selfishness

Holy shit, I can't help but think that Enrique Pena Nieto, an absolute idiot and pretty much one of the worst presidents in modern history of Mexico (Victoriano Huerta is the GOAT in that regard, IMO), can be the man who could hurt Trump.

Like, he just said "No" and that's enough to get Donnie pissed.

I thought like that before but, after this week, I have stopped on thinking on Trump as a rational actor. Is up to his party if they can/will stop him or not. I mean, he just managed to antagonize Peña Nieto, who's the softest target he can have on the international scene.

It's hard to remember that real politicians and diplomats don't run their mouth or Twitter whenever they feel like it. It's a hard bind, and antagonizing the orange moron will only make it harder for Trudeau to negotiate with.

Trudeau knows what he's doing in regards to Trump. Here's a bit from an article on a recent town hall meeting:

"A handful of hecklers interrupted Trudeau throughout the event at the University of Calgary. Trudeau responded by drawing on his past life as a teacher, telling one man he didn’t want to reward bad behaviour by giving it too much attention."

Yep, we all know the main reason of Trump's hostility is racism. Canada is mostly a white country, Mexico is not. I'm mexican but I understand Trudeau's actions, it would be dumb to pick a fight with the US when they're not targeting you (yet).

But yeah, as a mexican, it kinda feels bad seeing them just saying "goodbye suckers, you're on your own now" when canadian mining companies received lots of benefits to exploit our resources in the past few years. They didn't even expressed moral support.

Yes thank you. I was thinking about something he said in the news recently and it must have been from his UoC visit. It's a tricky balance with foreign policy. I am not a fan of using fossil fuels, but I get the position we are in. Alberta needs it for their economy, the country needs money, but at least we have climate change and the environment in mind. It wasn't all axed for no reason.

I also liked the subtle jab that Trump is a rotten schoolchild.

I'm far from being an Obrador supporter, and you would hear me campaigning against him on 2012 and 2006. But If things keep going like this, and we don't get support for what's left of the West, I will vote AMLO in 2018 and kick all the western economic interests from the country. They are allowed to be here on the condition they treat us fairly, they are breaking the deal. We will give the Chinese exploitation contracts instead.

Oh, I know that they are far from fair but at least they don't base their policy on explicit hate of our skin.

Good. Every country should refuse to work with Trump. There's no way Trump could have a hissyfit and cancel deals without affecting the US's economy in a huge way.

The Mexican President might not be meeting not only because of the wall but ALSO the fact that Trump wants to tax the fuck out of American Companies that build products in Mexico then bring them across the border. I think Trump should do that to companies despite what people believe. The wall is a waste of money though. People will figure out a way over it or under it.

Even the GOP has their limits. And if there's one thing Trump is actually good at, it's treading all over things like "limits".

I'm not sure what that thing will be yet, but I hope it comes with video evidence.

The crazy thing is that we've had "video evidence" that would have sunk anyone else running for president, but it did absolutely nothing to Trump.

I'm astounded by the things people are willing to ignore in association with this administration. Totally unprecedented.

This will be very interesting to watch out how this unfolds!

I don't think Mexico can stomach losing NAFTA. The United States holds all the leverage and the only out is for Mexico to pay for the wall. That being said it probably won't be in the form of a check. I see Mexico finally attending the meeting (Canada has already said fuck you Mexico you're on your own) and paying through the NAFTA renegotiation.

I see more labor unions loving this move though.

No. The meeting was scheduled and fast tracked because of Trump was causing economic uncertainty with the whole "I will tax the hell out of Mexicans imports" rhetoric. We (Mexicans) and our partners wanted the uncertainty to end and know exactly what would replace NAFTA, with how much taxes and when, so we could act accordingly. The meeting was cancelled explicitly because the wall.

Not.

How.

Tax.

Incidence.

Works.

Furthermore, The US does not hold all the chips. See how much Texas exports to Mexico.

See?

That's 92 billion. With a B. Per year. In Republican Texas. Almost 8% of the total Texas GDP.

37%+ of total exports from Texas.

Ah, that makes sense. I wasn't informed that there was a meeting already in place.

As a Mexican. We would rather enter crippling depression than cede to this fucking clown.

Let's see who takes it in the ass the longest.

BREAKING: White House spokesman: Trump calling for 20 percent tax on imports from Mexico to pay for southern border wall.

Oh God.

This idiotic.

So Americans will pay for the Wall. And fuck with California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas in the process.

Great going there Donnie. The worst part is, the peso will probably depreciate somewhat, goods will stabilize, and you will export even less shit to Mexico?

Wtf are you guys doing?
