MGSV: The Phantom Pain - New information revealed

I hope this game has awesome bosses.

Me too.

I want an open-world sniper duel that rivals or hands-down beats the battle with The End in MGS3. That is my all-time favorite boss fight in any game ever and I want to see it bested in MGSV:TPP.

If they don't capitalize on an open-world sniper boss battle...

I hope they have a boss that just roams the open world that you can sometimes stumble into, but is really hard to defeat.

I'm thinking shadow of mordor style. You're doing your shit and suddenly a boss shows up, unscripted, and shits on your plans.

So hyped for this game, loved GZ and still play it from time to time (or just watch the gorgeous cinematics, just that)

I need a release date! >_<

This is a great reason to not buy PS Plus. There's no online mode without PS Plus so this means people can't attack my base when I'm away. I'm on GAF while my PS4 is paused on Netflix while someone is plotting on MB resources. Yeah fuck that entirely. Let me have my offline Mother Base as the best around. Many of us look forward to extensive let's play base building videos.

Kojima better let us have a fox as a comrade.

Yeah, but I don't want the sniper boss that beats The End in MGSV:TPP to be Quiet - I want it to be an as-of-yet unseen character.

We have yet to see the boss unit for this game - Kojima is playing the specifics of this game close to his chest this time.

So far, canonically here are the boss units/teams:

Metal Gear: Unnamed Mercenary Unit
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake: Unnamed Mercenary Unit
Metal Gear Solid: Rogue Foxhound Team
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty: Deadcell
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater: Cobra Unit
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots: Beauty & The Beast Corps
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain: ?????

Who will we face in MGSV:TPP? It is still a mystery. So far, MGS has the most boss fights in the series. Maybe with luck, MGSV:TPP will top it.

I don't think I've ever been more excited for a game before in my life. My only hope I that the boss battles are more like mgs 1-4 and less like PW. If they are like PW then I think I'll cry and give up on life...

As I said in the community thread, I don't see where the fun is in this. I guess I'll be playing offline...

Because it gives you an actual reason to build up your bases defenses, versus building up your bases defenses for no reason. You'll care more about where cameras are placed, how your troops are equipped, what animals you have, etc. And, the most important part, it gives you the opportunity to invade other people's bases, which essentially gives you a never ending supply of constantly changing sandboxes, which leads to high amounts of replayability.

So basically, the fun is in the fact that it's more game to play, therefore more fun to be had.

(And honestly, something tells me that other players won't actually be able to screw you over that badly. Like, ok, you took one of my trucks, guess I'll just get 5 more from the next single player mission)

I thought the GZ demo was awful. I found it really boring and couldn't bring myself to finish it. I don't like the whole open world thing.. I much prefer the style of the older games and I'm worried about this transition into open world everything.
If you couldn't finish GZ which is merely a 30 mins experience then forget MGSV as a whole and move on with your life.

it's entirely possible that she starts as a boss, and if you tranq her instead of kill her, she could then become a buddy later

How could an Mgs fan say Zeroes was dissapointing? It has brought me back to the series instantly after havinh not finished mgs4.

So if youre on a mission and some invades your mother base do you have to take a long ass helicopter ride back or can you just skip it and go straight to the base?

How could an MGS fan not finish a mainline game in the series that has been out for 6 years? lol you just should've finished it for completionists' sake. It's not even a long game.

I got stuck in that tower with the flying boss. Couldnt kill it so I put it down to play later but then I sold my ps4 :/. I dont knlw what happened either, I was so hyped for MGS4, I even cut together a self made trailer with mgs2 music before the game came out :p.

I don't think you'll be doing any waiting in the helicopter unless you want to. They recently showed a 'restart from helicopter' option so you might be able to skip ordering a return chopper too.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Yeah you can tell Kojima was pretty burned out with the series when he was "forced" to make MGS4.

But now with MGSV it really looks like he got the energy and passion for MGS back.

You can fulton yourself back to mother base and abandon the mission.

As long as the moment to moment gameplay is as fun as Ground Zeros, I'm down for whatever ridiculous crazy Kojima has in store.

I've enjoyed all of the mainline MGS games somewhat, but the finicky controls always get to me at some point. Excited for this because it's the first MGS game that just feels damn good to control

People who don't think there'll be a Sniper battle where you're driving from vantage point to vantage point, stray bullets breaking the windows in you vehicles, are insane.

The amount of variation in the Ground Zeroes mission-types alone, expanded 200x. Good lord.

Accounting for cutscenes it's a fairly short game

I've seen playthroughs of Metal Gear Solid 3 of around 2.5 hours of gameplay, skipping cutscenes.

All Metal Gear games are extremely short if you eliminate the cutscenes. MGS4 is no exception, and it may be shorter, but let's not pretend this is not an issue with the franchise in general.

i think the MGS4 thing is a little overblown, but he was probably pretty frustrated that most of his new ideas and concepts for MGS4 ended up being relatively half-baked instead of fully realized. now he has the tech in the fox engine that's capable of doing exactly what he wants, which is peace walker with open level design

yeah, but those are speed runs. i think all of the games are relatively lengthy on the first playthrough. even taking cutscenes into account

This game is gonna' be fuckin' boss. AI patterns changing based on weather systems? That's the kind of stuff I really want to see in the inevitable barrage of open-world games this generation.

Fulton Zoo could be cool depending on how it's used. It might have been discussed already, but I'm not actively looking for information about this game because I like surprises.

When it comes to speedruns, I believe those are around 1.5 hours in length.

Personally I don't mind, I'm not complaining. I'm a huge Metal Gear fan, and I know what to expect whenever a new game is launched.

The Phantom Pain may be the first one with an extended period of gameplay, due to the open world structure, though. =)

Now that you reminded me how it actually works, it doesn't sound so bad. For some reason I was thinking that I'd have to come back from a mission and be immediately thrust into another major firefight at Motherbase. A more passive system that relies on your tactical base design sounds way better.

Of course it won't be that simple. Your unique characters (DD, Ocelot etc.) are probably hidden.

I will endeavour to invade the Mother Base's of as many GAFers as I can. I'll strap C4 to the back of a soldier, begin to Fulton them, and blow them up in mid air, all for revenge. You can't go offline. You have to join in on that fun.
