Michael Moore: Morning After To-Do List:

To those who say the Democratic party needs a new leadership, Moore is right there with you.

Morning After To-Do List:
1. Take over the Democratic Party and return it to the people. They have failed us miserably.
2. Fire all pundits, predictors, pollsters and anyone else in the media who had a narrative they wouldn't let go of and refused to listen to or acknowledge what was really going on. Those same bloviators will now tell us we must "heal the divide" and "come together." They will pull more hooey like that out of their ass in the days to come. Turn them off.
3. Any Democratic member of Congress who didn't wake up this morning ready to fight, resist and obstruct in the way Republicans did against President Obama every day for eight full years must step out of the way and let those of us who know the score lead the way in stopping the meanness and the madness that's about to begin.
4. Everyone must stop saying they are "stunned" and "shocked". What you mean to say is that you were in a bubble and weren't paying attention to your fellow Americans and their despair. YEARS of being neglected by both parties, the anger and the need for revenge against the system only grew. Along came a TV star they liked whose plan was to destroy both parties and tell them all "You're fired!" Trump's victory is no surprise. He was never a joke. Treating him as one only strengthened him. He is both a creature and a creation of the media and the media will never own that.
5. You must say this sentence to everyone you meet today: "HILLARY CLINTON WON THE POPULAR VOTE!" The MAJORITY of our fellow Americans preferred Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump. Period. Fact. If you woke up this morning thinking you live in an effed-up country, you don't. The majority of your fellow Americans wanted Hillary, not Trump. The only reason he's president is because of an arcane, insane 18th-century idea called the Electoral College. Until we change that, we'll continue to have presidents we didn't elect and didn't want. You live in a country where a majority of its citizens have said they believe there's climate change, they believe women should be paid the same as men, they want a debt-free college education, they don't want us invading countries, they want a raise in the minimum wage and they want a single-payer true universal health care system. None of that has changed. We live in a country where the majority agree with the "liberal" position. We just lack the liberal leadership to make that happen (see: #1 above).
Let's try to get this all done by noon today.

A-fucking-men to both of these

GAF always laughs at Moore but he was the one saying there needed to be more done by the dems here in Michigan and surrounding states, and look what happened when it was ignored.

I don't always agree with Moore, but he's spot on here. It's not a time to take the high road, not when your opponents have being fighting dirty for the last eight years.

He makes a lot of good points. But a lot of people here hate his guts.

Triple down on the shrill condescension, Mike. That'll win 'em back the White House.
What condescension? Can you point out what is condescending in the OP?

Well, sad part is, there's not much Dems can do. They are held hostage at this point, because the Republicans OWN IT ALL.

My only hope is that the constant infighting breeds ground for them to fall apart and get nothing done.

Who cares, fuck them.

Demographics are on our side, so let it be an us vs them war. Trump won with fewer votes than when Romney lost. We didnt do our job of getting our people to vote. Fuck the racists.

The DNC needs to be burned down and rebuilt from the ashes ready to fight. No more trying to reach across the aisle to people that hate us.

#5 is interesting to keep in mind--not to bleat in people's faces, as he suggests, but more of an affirmation. It's easy to forget that by sheer raw numbers, Americans preferred Clinton's message to Trump's.

Obviously, that's not enough to win the election. But it counts for something.

People scoff at Moore (and perhaps rightly so seeing as he says some stupid shit sometimes), but he was bang on with his theories about the election in Trump Land. He was right about Michigan and the 'Brexit states' as he called them.

That's how I felt after Brexit.
Rage and confusion at first and then the realisation that my political system is a joke and that it's failed the people and been quietly failing for a LONG time.

He's one of the few who accurately predicted that Trump would win, and he explained precisely why, on several occasions.
His action points are something everybody with a functioning brain can see are the only way to keep the country and the Democrats afloat now that every racist, xenophobic, homophobic, anti-intellectualist fucktard will run amok with their newfound validation and self-righteousness.

But yeah, he's just an old fat joke by now, uh-huh...

The man called this election perfectly. He deserves some respect for that.

Wow I had never read this but he was 100% on with this

Midwest Math, or Welcome to Our Rust Belt Brexit. I believe Trump is going to focus much of his attention on the four blue states in the rustbelt of the upper Great Lakes – Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Four traditionally Democratic states – but each of them have elected a Republican governor since 2010 (only Pennsylvania has now finally elected a Democrat). In the Michigan primary in March, more Michiganders came out to vote for the Republicans (1.32 million) that the Democrats (1.19 million). Trump is ahead of Hillary in the latest polls in Pennsylvania and tied with her in Ohio. Tied? How can the race be this close after everything Trump has said and done? Well maybe it’s because he’s said (correctly) that the Clintons’ support of NAFTA helped to destroy the industrial states of the Upper Midwest. Trump is going to hammer Clinton on this and her support of TPP and other trade policies that have royally screwed the people of these four states. When Trump stood in the shadow of a Ford Motor factory during the Michigan primary, he threatened the corporation that if they did indeed go ahead with their planned closure of that factory and move it to Mexico, he would slap a 35% tariff on any Mexican-built cars shipped back to the United States. It was sweet, sweet music to the ears of the working class of Michigan, and when he tossed in his threat to Apple that he would force them to stop making their iPhones in China and build them here in America, well, hearts swooned and Trump walked away with a big victory that should have gone to the governor next-door, John Kasich.
From Green Bay to Pittsburgh, this, my friends, is the middle of England – broken, depressed, struggling, the smokestacks strewn across the countryside with the carcass of what we use to call the Middle Class. Angry, embittered working (and nonworking) people who were lied to by the trickle-down of Reagan and abandoned by Democrats who still try to talk a good line but are really just looking forward to rub one out with a lobbyist from Goldman Sachs who’ll write them nice big check before leaving the room

thanks for the laugh
have there been any studies into the likely dem/rep split should the the electoral system be abolished and it was all one person one vote; are there more republican voters in safe republican states who don't bother voting than there are democrats in safe democrat states?

pointing to the popular vote in a system that spits in the face of the popular vote seems potentially misleading. without the electoral system the popular vote would look completely different, but to whose advantage?

Yeah you're right. We should stick to the GAF method of calling everyone who deviates from the our politics 0.1% a racist bigot and then sticking our fingers in our ears for years while screaming for the Queen instead. Worked out super well last night.

This gets reversed by becoming the Republicans of 8 years ago. Obstruct in the government while appealing to and energizing the people.

I will not be satisfied until the Democratic Party becomes a complete and utter wall to this presidency and senate and house and makes it fucking impossible for them to do a goddam thing.

Fuck working together. Republicans refuse to work together with Democrats and continuously for 8 years were petty immature and shitty babies, and all Democrats do is fucking ask for unity and pulling together?

I don't want unity. I want you to scorch the fucking earth.

The only reason that Michael Moore gets to make films and Inspire a Gaf thread to discuss his take on the US election is because he made Roger & Me 17 years ago. The first film he made was about the slow death of Michigan. The UAW made Secretary Clinton promise to renegotiate NAFTA - which her husband signed into law - before they threw their weight behind her.

They proved to me with kerry and post teaparty they have no balls. Republicans can obstruct but we won't. I hope the establishment of the DNC crumbles enough that some outright leave cause them staying won't help shit.

That's really petty. Don't descend into ignorance out of spite.
I am unsure you know the meaning of that word.

I am fully cognizant, which is why I am aware of the atmosphere and environment that Trump has controlled to propel his election.

Yes, Clinton won the popular vote... but barely.

Let's get real. With the two options available, the split should not be nearly 50/50.

The fact that she just edged him out isn't something to cheer about.
