At the time of this post, the USA is ranked #1 on the 2012 Olympics medal count.

That's not how you count Olympics medals.

Have there been any athletes that have won multiple medals in different disciplines?

The greatest Canadian ever!

The great Clara Hughes. Only one to medal in both summer and winter games.

Yeah I just read that. Something like a six months suspended sentence for providing evidence against him.

Oh I didn't know that.

i mean, for the amount of doping that was going on during Armstrong's winning streak I wouldn't be surprised if they had a positive test since he dominated a doped field, but as of now I dont believe they've produced one.

swimmers are so fucking hot

really? They look like aliens and have grossly misshaped bodies

To even up the swimming, i think they should introduce some new events for other sports:

Such as:
Basketball
3v3
6v6

only left hand
only right hand

1 m higher basket
1 m lower basket

outdoor basketball

Mixed teams

Only dunks

Only 3 points allowed

That way, Kobe could for instance be able to win as many golds as Phelps.

This thread is quickly becoming an international incident.

Before you know it UN Peacekeepers will be stomping around telling us what to do.

You mean AN Peacekeepers. This is GAF.

I still don't get why Britain is throwing away one of its best chances at a gold medal by not even allowing Aaron Cook to participate in taekwondo

It's fitting that the most decorated Olympian is American; living as close to the border as I do, I don't have to look far to see how truly every American is basically on that level.

I definitely lost the lottery being born Canadian, ugh.

Every day I wish I could display the gentle humility and rich integrity of Americans. Truly a blessed country, congratulations you guys. Congratulations. Those medals belong to you, the most athletic of countries.

19 medals. Nothing to be insecure about on this side.

The real story here are the insecure thread title changes without manning up.

You had absolutely nothing to do with his accomplishments. You were simply born in the same country. How does it feel to need to live your life through other people?

Having different strokes be separate events is dumb. It should just be swim as fast as you can, however you want. If they have all these extra swimming events, why don't they do the same for track races? Have a 100m crab walk, a 100m backwards run, a 100m hop on one foot, etc.

Canada has as many medals as the host nation, but only half the population, while largely being considered a winter sports nation.

Your former colonies >

Don't get me wrong, I am happy for Phelps. But I had nothing to do with his achievements, nor did most of the population. Why should I feel proud for something I had no part in?

Then don't, and while your at it, stop wasting your time being offended if someone else does..

So.... you don't feel proud, but you feel happy... why is one emotion valid and the other not?

Anyway, Phelps is greatest of all time.

Did I hurt your feelings?

If so I shall send an apology to Phelps. It would be like apologizing directly to you.

Did Rukus hurt yours?

Keep your apologies, seeing as all I have done is mildly congratulate Phelps, your second sentence there makes zero sense. Perhaps you should keep track of who you are replying to.

I am happy for Phelps. Good for him for doing so well. But taking pride in his accomplishments goes a bit further than that. Phelps should be proud of himself. His parents should be proud. His coach should be proud. Me, who had nothing to do with it, should not.
