microsoft announced new version of Xbox Wireless Adapter for PC

But... you can use BT to connect xbox one controllers to your PC. Nearly every laptop has BT built in by default, and even if yours doesn't BT adapters are smaller and much more numerous and cheaper!

Yeah you may not be able to connect 8 (or maybe you can?) but who's playing 8 player local games on their PC?

I just need confirmation that this works with Steam Link and I'm in.

I can try the old one for you when I get home, I swear it does as I saw something mention on the Steam Link forums about it. I know the Xbox 360 receiver works on it just fine as thats what I currently have hooked up

I paid 50$ for the old USB adapter >_>. I like the X1 controller too much and a wired USB cable doesn't really work for my setup unless the cable is really long.

Funny enough, my old Logitech Rumbepad 2 died and I moved onto the F710, which then gave me connection issues. Logitech replaced the controller and it still gave issues where connection would randomly drop for seconds at a time. Bought the XB1 receiver and when I saw how big it was my first thought was "no way this loses connection!"
It's range is pretty limited, that's for sure, and you have to make sure that there's nothing obscuring the direct line of sight between the dongle and the controller. But otherwise it works fine.

I've read somewhere that Xbox wireless adapter tend to loose connection all the time as well btw, no idea if it's true.

The second photo is for a Bluetooth,i have the same mouse.
The second photo is a standard wireless adapter bundled with Logitech F710 gamepad. It looks completely similar to Logitech Unifying receiver but it's not Bluetooth, it's some custom 2.4GHz connection.

I play cooperative/split screen games all of the time on my pc. Good examples: IDARB, and the 6 player game Super Slam Dunk Touchdown. They're a ton of fun, and nice to have games available with more than 4 players local that I can easily set controllers up for. I wish more pc games had 4-8 player modes in general.

The Oculus service actually fucks with the controller sync. If you have any issues, just stop the service whilst you pair the controller and then start it again. It's annoying and they really need to fix it.

My worked like a charm right out the box while my Oculus service was running... but this is good to know

I have the original one and the size is fucking horrible. Having it on the front USB ports was literally dangerous because I was constantly scared of knocking it away, and I can't have it on the back ports because like 50% of the times I reboot the computer I need to plug the thing out and in again for it to start working. I ended up connecting it on the USB port on my keyboard. Also if I use it on my laptop it blocks the other USB port on the side.

Also I swear the thing is so fucking huge it's starting to bend under its own weight. It's stupid.

I may buy the new one. BT has less range.

It was frustrating because the Rumblepad 2 worked perfectly, connected behind my tower. At one point I had a USB extension cable connected to the F710's receiver across my living room, 1 foot away from me, just so the signal would drop less.

Haven't had a single issue with the Xbox wireless adapter. My only complaint is that my muscle memory was used to the Logitech triggers.

In my experience, my old adapter i got with my Oculus Rift dropped connections fairly frequently. Eventually i purchased the ocean shadow controller and used it via Bluetooth. Hopefully the newer adapter performs a bit better with my environment. Since the issue doesnt seem too widespread, i chalked it up to my own wireless environment and not an inherent issue with the adapter itself.

The original gargantuan adapter has always worked great for me, so I don't need this at the moment. But if it breaks, it's nice to get a smaller one.

I'm much more likely to get the upcoming grey/green controller.
It looks so good, and my current controller is like, dirty and stuff. Literally unusable.

Wait, really?

How does one active this feature, because I know I've plugged in my headphones before and nothing.

Plug in headphones, then go to Windows audio settings, and it should show up as a USB device. Set as default device (default listening device, maybe?) and it should work.

Can you connect several controllers and headsets to the logitech USB?

Let's not forget that Sony releases this thing that only supported on PlayStation Now app.

Thinking of getting one of these. Currently using my motherboard's built in bluetooth and it mostly works but a couple of times I've had it stop recognizing my controller and had to re-pair it. Also I really want an Elite controller and am tired of waiting for if they ever make a version of it that supports bluetooth.

It's about time. It's ridiculous that the original is as large as it is. You should have always been able to plug it in to a usb port and not block other ports.

I don't think it's a particularly common issue but it is a known problem. I can uninstall and reinstall the drivers and get it working each session but it's not worth the effort for me. It's easier just to use it wired.

I've had that issue, and I had to unplug and reconnect the dongle to get it working.

Neat. I'd only get this if it improved range over the original adapter, though the og adapter has been flawless for me. Size isn't an issue as I used this and the extension cable that came with the adapter and some 3m command strips and basically internalized it in my pc. It's stuck behind one of the drive bay covers on my case (define r5), so no signal loss. Works great that way and I recommend it to anyone who uses the adapter in a "permanent" installation on their pc.

I tried this initially with my RVZ02 but the space wasn't optimal for the size of the dongle. It also caused a lot of signal loss for me.

Only the newest controllers have bluetooth

Sounds like an issue on your end? What are things that support the DS4 where it doesn't work for you?

i use usb or regular bluetooth usb for DS4 for PC,so this has no use for me because i don't use PS now or remote play.

for people who use PS Now on PC,you have to use that thing, and it's very big,and it's still Bluetooth adapter, not wireless.

The original one is a worthless piece of junk. My desktop PC is fairly modern but this crap has been nothing but trouble. It's spend the good part of a year sitting in a drawer because I just can't get it to reliably sync to the controller. Updating drivers and all that - nothing works for more than a few days.

Honestly I'd just recommend get a cheap Bluetooth dongle and use your Dualshock 4 as a controller for your Pc, instead of buying this overpriced accessory.

With ds4windows and the touchpad, the Dualshock 4 on Pc is a godsend.

Only for some people the Xbox controller is far more comfortable. I cannot stand the PS controllers, and a lot of others people cannot as well. So this item isn't for those people.

Slick, I like it and will probably get one. Not quite sure how/why people are confused on how this is an improvement over what they currently have??

Windows Bluetooth has been horrendous on every build I've come across. Even with my tower a metre away from me on the desk, DS4Windows complains about signal issues and loses the controller, or there is horrible input latency.

This is the only reason I go with the Xbone pad and the wireless adapter.

Only the newest revision of the xbox one controller supports bluetooth, every other model including the elite does not.

I just need confirmation that this works with Steam Link and I'm in.

The old adapter definitely does not work wirelessly with Xbox One controllers, at least not with out fandangling. BUT the new Xbox One controllers (v2 w/ Bluetooth) can wirelessly connect to the Steam Link, don't know total amount of controllers though.

Truth be told, I'm honestly surprised they haven't updated the Elite to support Bluetooth yet.
If you paid $150 for a controller, you probably will pay extra $25 for an adapter and another $20 for re chargeable batteries.

but yah,it's shame it doesn't support Bluetooth.

Relocate the receiver away from other kit with a usb extension cable, it's almost certainly interference.

Or, just use the XBO controller with the same Bluetooth dongle since any 2016 and newer XBO controller has Bluetooth support as well. Why would you go out of your way with a software solution just to use an inferior controller that has inferior PC support? There are plenty of ways to use an XBO controller on the PC, this is just an option.

I tried the bluetooth XB1 controllers, but for whatever reason they just wouldn't work on my desktop.

I tried at least 3 different bluetooth dongles, fully reinstalled Windows 10, deleted and reinstalled drivers, and followed every help guide or troubleshooting I could find and the blueooth ones just would not work. Not sure if it's interference from my Desktop, but I don't think it is, since my DS4 connects just fine with one of those bluetooth dongles I tried. Only thing that worked reliably was to do a wired connection which wasn't what I wanted.

I finally bought a PC XB1+dongle combo discounted and the dongle has worked just fine for me since, but it is pretty gigantic (especially plugged into a Windows tablet or laptop), so this smaller dongle might be nice to have, I just wish it was more like $10-15 instead of $25.

I'm definitely interested in picking one up at some point, just so I can ditch the massive old model. Keep that as a spare or something.

For those who don't know, these are the reasons to use this dongle:

1. Support for up to 8 controllers. But what PC game supports more than four players? Towerfall Ascension. There's a PC exclusive version with wider maps that support up to 8 players. Then there's the fact that you know it'll work perfectly with anything less as well.

2. It's easier to use than Bluetooth. Need to hook your friends controller up for tonights game of Gears? This dongle got you. Just hit the sync buttons and you're Goldielocks. No need to mess about in Windows menus. This is especially important for those technologically challenged.

3. It supports wireless audio. Just like on the Xbox. You can get your sound through the controller. And it'll work with headsets for chat too!

4. Rumble triggers, son. You want to get the full rumble in the jungle Forza Horizon experience? You'll need this dongle.

I feel like I should also mention that there were serious connection issues with these things almost a year ago. Mine would need to be re-plugged every time I wanted to use it. But they've been fixed, and now mine is as stable as a 3DS. (knock on wood)

No, I'm not affiliated with Microsoft. :-P Just letting gamers know this is the current champ of wireless controller solutions for Windows.

Sorry for the bump, but i thought this was available today?

Don't see it anywhere on the site to buy, should I just go to a retail Microsoft store?

EDIT: Saw the release date is January 31, 2018 not today, i got my hopes up -.-

Just use the extension cable that comes with it and rest the adapter on top of the tower. That's what I did with mine and it's been perfect. No need to directly plug it into any port.

#3 and #4 are my main ones. I love gaming with headphones on. Plus Bluetooth likes to act up on the vibration sometimes, and you have to play around with device manager settings to reactivate it.

It should be out today! I'd honestly recommend picking it up in-store, at least at first, since some places might send out the older version first to get rid of stock (you never know!).

8 controllers? maybe they mean 8 devices (4 controllers and 4 headsets?)

about Rumble triggers, the old one doesn't support it?
