Microsoft cancels post-E3 media roundtable

I missed this, but this is some shady stuff right here. I thought Microsoft had 15 Microsoft published exclusives for the first year. Why do they need to do this? The only explanation I have is that if running side by side the PS4 version of games will look and play far superior to the Xbox. This is just a band aid on a festering wound that will one day be exposed for what it is.

Several insider GAFfers, including CBoaT, backed this up.

Yep this is bullshit of the highest order. Nice pre packaged little infomercials full of positives (and no hard questions allowed) with the press like the recent one showing the UI. Cancel all the pressers where they can't control the questions. Buy up all the games to show at E3 so the dumb hardcore will lap it up and buy it in droves because if the hardcore doesn't buy it initially it will end up dead in the water. I smell Ballmers hand in this. I hope I'm wrong.

I would assume they can but I don't know for sure. I actually just talked to the same dude today and he has backed off a bit saying "I think some publishers just aren't comfortable with their builds." But he is certain that EA was supposed to show stuff on stage and be in their booth and now neither is happening. Other games, which he won't get specific about, were supposed to be in the booth and now aren't. According to him they are so, so, so thankful to the indies who are now jumping at the chance to get their games in the booth.

So it's hard to suss out who is pulling out because they don't like where their game is and who is moneyhats, if any. But it's definitely worth keeping an eye on. If there's a lot of MS multiplats and not Sony versions... I wouldn't assume that ps4 development is behind... i would assume that MS is the reason the ps4 version isn't there. But even that assumption might be wrong. That's why i posted that in here instead of making a new post about it because there's so much shit going on now that Im starting to think even my sources *think* they know more than they actually know. So many moving pieces...

I just find it really odd that publishers may not be confident about the PS4 builds considering all we know about the PS4 hardware and progression of development thus far. Either there is something suspicious going on or the XBO is the lead platform, which does not bode well for the PS4.

From here it feels as though the gaming community are a fly in the ointment, or more vocal than MS thought.

MS appear to want to paint their own picture of their all in one device that lets you play the latest games as well. Unfortunately the gamer centric demographic is not at all happy with this and are demanding questions which smears their fine artwork.

I think they literally want to hush it all up, run the ads for FIFA and CoD and release asap now, banking on the early sales and brand loyalty. It's almost 'Next-Gen 0.5'. The longer it goes on, the more damage I can see being done.

If I was at MS now I'd be furiously working on rebranding somehow and releasing something like an XBox ONE 'G' Edition with better specs and architecture to compete with PS4. A lot of people may be fine with 720p next gen games running at 30fps but most people will see the fidelity difference in store on PS4 and opt for that.

I think from day 1 this has been a disaster.

This is just starting to seem more and more like Microsoft isn't ready with this thing. I wouldn't be surprised to see a delay to Spring 2014. At the same time, I don't think they would want Sony to release PS4 too much earlier than the Xbox One.

Buying up games for E3 is dogshit dumb and a waste of money.

Outside of message boards no one will know, they will still see that the game is coming to Xbone and PS4.

On the message boards people will only care for the superior version (very likely PS4).

By the time the games comes out everyone will know whats the better version.

I'm really at a loss as to why people find this rumoured move to lock down third party promotion, etc by MS disgusting, underhanded, etc.

It's the exact same thing Sony did to Sega and the Dreamcast. I guess people were just as angry back then but didn't have an outlet?

Ok, so they knew months upon months ahead of time when E3 will be, when they present, probably even the time.

But all of a sudden, less than a week before E3, multiple executives can't make it?

That sound legitimate to you?

Ofcourse not but I'm just saying even if they had a legitimate reason for the cancelling it would still seem dubious

If you look up "hard facts" in the Microsoft dictionary, this is the first example given:
aVGPoVs.jpg

Well the fiscal year ends next March, so it could be true.

I can't imagine bribing every multi platform publisher to only show Xbox One versions is feasible. Does Ubisoft want to let Infamous Second Son look way better than Assassins Creed 4 to the public? Does EA want Kilzone SF to look way better than BF4 to the public?

But you'd have to think that the EA presentation was real at the Xbone reveal to think something this. Or is it just thin air? It was a rushed CG target video that EA had, which wasn't running on any XBO hardware/

You've seen more games running on a PS4, than the Xbone has showed ever. Devkits included.

what can't be talked about...?

If my decryption is good, its saying "REMOVE RUMOR" from the title.

And something about a tarbaby.

You can remove rumor from the thread title, team mod. ESRAM yeilds are troubling to put it lightly. Truth fact.
You won't hear anything about tech at MS's E3 presentation. Tech Tarbaby is stickier than you will ever know. I look forward to reading the book by venturebeat. They(MS)rushed, and were caught out by sony's changes. Leadership failure.

jeezus that broke my brain.

This is how he posts and has posted.

Well my thinking is that roundtable Q&A msft will get questions from everyone and anything. But now they'll just pick the publications they want to talk to that will gloss over stuff like manufacturing issues.

I don't get it either. I thought people were dissing MS because they "forgot about the core gamer" Where are the games people scream.

Ok.. here, we're buying up lot's of games to show because people want games, so we are spending our money to bring the games.

And now it's a how dare you type of thing.

Did they pull the rug from under Nintendo and EA and their unprecedented partnership as well? Shit is going down here.

Month after month, year after year Microsoft gets away with the shenanigans starting with the RROD lies, Kinect bs and now dodging so many things in relation to the Xbone but ppl keep giving them breaks or saying "wait till reveal, wait till E3, etc..." Really when is enough, enough? We all know they are just dodging accountability and having to answer for their discrepancies, false promises and unanswered issues.

Seriously i wouldnt touch any Microsoft console even if they gave it to me half off, simply too much negativity and bs associated with it!

It's just a company with a bunch of people working there. Not a evil dragon. Do you think they wanted RROD, like it was planned? Their greatest sin with the XBO is be unclear. You're assigning emotion to this like we're not not seeing the despot villain that you can clearly see.

You finally jumped from HDD! Welcome :0

MS will not delay the system. They shipped the 360 completely broken rather than delay it, and that was to maintain a head start, let alone to launch at the same time. If the XBO can boot, it's shipping with the next CoD, even if constant smoke pours out the back.

You should re-read. They aren't buying games or exclusives. They're buying the talking points so people will only think certain games aren't coming to the PS4 when they actually are. There is a huge difference.

No, they are paying money to hide sony versions of games at E3 (if true).

Not really the same situation. Third party publishers didn't believe in the Dreamcast. These games are still coming to PS4. That's the funny part. MS paying publishers at E3 to pretend that the PS4 version doesn't exist for now. Except it is in the publishers best interest to make sure everyone knows the PS4 versions exists before release. So this is only a temporary band aid for MS.

I agree, Xbone is coming in hot but I don't see a delay.

Also a reason to not buy a launch system now. Fool me once, MS.

Lets see how they will go:

Kotaku: Fans are curious as to what your used game policy is with the Xbox One? Are used games playable and will they require a fee?

Microsoft rep: We aren't commenting on that right now.

Kotaku: Rumor has it that there is a problem with SDRAM yeiled and some parts of the console will be underclocked?

Microsoft rep: We don't comment on rumor or speculation

Kotaku: Will consumers have to be online in order to play single player games offline?

Microsoft rep: We aren't commenting about that right now

Kotaku: Will there be some way to be able to play 360 games on the Xbox One, either through streaming or disc?

Microsoft: I can't comment on that right now

Kotaku: What can you comment on?

Microsoft rep: No comment.
I don't think Microsoft is dumb enough to stonewall after how the Internet reacted to their reveal event, but if that were to happen, I imagine we'd call them out just like we did last month.

So much vitriol in this thread. It's like you're all forgetting that journalists have been trying to get answers from Microsoft for weeks now, and that their answers have been absurd. You're nuts if you don't think every journalist in LA will be trying to get some straight talk about how used games/always online will work on the XBone.

Moneyhatted exclusives haven't been received warmly on any platform... Probably ever. There's a huge difference in perception between first party and paid exclusives.

Hey, Miami Heat paid lot's of money for Lebron so they could win. I look at it the same way. I'm down for all 3, Nintendo, Sony and MS to spend their money they make from us on games. Anyway they can.

That's not a good strategy lol.

That's scary, I hope they listen to feedback. If Sony is smart they will jump on this xbox negativity and give people what they ask for.

And what if you don't get the opportunity to ask? What if all you get is absurd answers?

didn't mattrick or someone say they will sell a lot of 360. because when the 360 breaks they'll shell out money for a new system which counts towards their goal? lol.

I mentioned the other day that I was hearing rumors of Microsoft throwing around a considerable amount of money to have publishers only show games on the Xbox One during E3. Most people dismissed my admittedly flakey news as 'that's what always happens.'

I've talked to more people since then though and this isn't the usual jostling for publishers on stage that happens at E3. Microsoft is throwing BIG money around to reverse course on idea that they aren't a games console. The rumors are that PS4 versions of multiplats, by those who do take the money, won't be shown AT ALL. Not on stage and not on the show floor.

I don't feel bad for Sony because business is business. I'm sure they will find a way to have a decent show... or they will have to recover afterwards. That's not really my concern.

Now, there's no need to take my word on this if you don't want to. But do keep an eye on E3 next week. With them buying up everything in sight and now potentially cutting an open roundtable out(to assumedly talk one on one with friendly press) and word that finding multiplat games on the ps4 on the show floor will be much harder than anticipated.... just keep an eye on it. Maybe my sources are wrong. But I feel confident enough in this info to share it.

I'm not saying to jump to conclusions. I'm just saying it may be something to keep an eye on.

Thanks for all your info man, really appreciate it.

Sounds like the reveal didn't consist of content that was boring and they just wanted to get over with so they could get to the meat at E3, but rather we would have gotten more of the same.

The negative backlash seems to have forced them into a panic and they buying up content for the conference.

Very curious to see how this will pan out for MS in the end and if the consumers will really be dumb enough to make their console and approach a success.

I don't think anyone will be surprised if EA only demo their games on Xbone. But other devs/publishers? That would be interesting.

If what famousmortimer is saying is true - and EA has jumped into that scenario wholeheartedly - then I'm more than willing to watch EA get dragged under into deep, icy depths of nothingness if they tie themselves to MS's sinking ship in an attempt to save it and maybe eek out a few bucks by feigning exclusivity at E3.

No offense, but you have no idea whats going on.

If only your example was comparable. The situation is akin to one, in which we could have many LeBron's in multiple teams simultaneously.
