Microsoft considering adding emulated 360 backwards compatibility to Xbox One

I would love BC and think it could have been a real swing vote for the Xbox One had they had it in there at launch. Now though as we are starting to see more titles out on next gen, I just wonder how much it will matter in consumer eyes and thus would it matter to MS.

Do it MS and I buy an Xbox One straight away, even at the current price. It doesn't seem at all likely though so I won't be getting my hopes up.

If it actually is possible, it would bring one of the most valuable console libraries to the Xbox One. Even if it didn't allow for discs it would still include the entire Games on Demand library which includes most important Xbox 360 games. I feel like one day in the future it might happen, even if it's for a future Xbox console.

By the same token, I think local PS2 emulation on PS4 would be a great benefit for Sony. If nothing else, a near-perfect PS2 emulator would give Sony a massive back catalog for PSN releases.

This sort of thing won't be a selling point a year from now. Hell, it's barely a selling point for most people now. If it doesn't come out soon, which it sounds like it wouldn't, then it isn't going to happen.

The only way we'll see something like this is if it's a paid streaming service.

Would love to get my 360 out from under my TV so I can just have an XB1 and my Alienware X51... I still play my 360 but it's so ugly compared with the rest of the setup. That would push me over the edge on a purchase I think.

Fine with this but would rather they give us some more OG Xbox classics in the vain of Halo, Halo 2, and Fable Anniversaries as opposed to emulation.

They could start by offering OG XBOX emulation, they are back x86 and the 360 emulator despite what everyone says was fine for the most part. AFAIK Sony are making good money off of PSN Classics.

Could Microsoft possibly make a new SKU of the Xbox One to work like the 80GB PS3?
Xbone is already expensive as it is. They can't add more to it. The reason why Sony removed in the first place was because it was one of the easiest ways to bring down manufacturing costs for PS3 at a time when they direly needed to.

How has this thread gotten to 5 pages?

There is NO way this is true. It's very unlikely that the Xbox One has anywhere near the processing power to pull it off.

The only way I could remotely fathom it would be if they made a separate dongle that connected via USB and/or HDMI that contains basic the chips that are difficult to emulate.

We have a new MS insider? sweet

It's expensive because MS is taking very little loss on it. It is perfectly feasible for MS to have a $400 Xbox One that includes a Kinect and Xbox 360 BC. They will just take a loss for it, but they still ought to do something like that.

And hey, maybe they could do something else to still release the console at $500 while still having a price cut: $400 without BC, and $500.

See if the bone is $400 and a 360 is $300, that's $700. If you release the BC bone at $500, that's a really good deal, especially for people who didn't have a 360 and want to catch up while still also getting a newer console. Good deal for MS because they can continue to have a $500 box.

With that CPU?
Good luck, MS.

It's not going to happen. Generation over generation software BC on a different architecture? Good luck. People were thinking Sony could have software BC in the PS3 to play PS2 games as a reasoning to why they took out hardware BC. Never happened. The statement from Microsoft was a dismissive one, too. They stated explicitly why they can not do it.

Yeah, it's one of the few instances where I completely believe MS.
