Microsoft Gamescom teaser - August 12 Xbox briefing

At SDCC they said Halo MCC would be playable @ Gamescom, though I assume they meant multiplayer.

I'd like to see some Halo 5 teases.. but likely those will be stuff included with MCC.

Hoping to see more Quantum Break, Killer Instinct Season 2, and Forza Horizon 2 (heck, the game happens in Europe, it has to be at Gamecom).

It's like Sunset Overdrive. They're funding development but the dev still keeps IP rights.

They're doing a lot more than just funding development. Joe Staten is supposedly helping out in some form with the actual story and on Platinum's website it's billed as a collaborative effort between MS and Platinum. Not to mention Sunset Overdrive has never been referred to as a "first party" title by anyone at MS but Scalebound has.

Microsoft owns the IP for Scalebound, actually.

Also this.

Bruh, us Europeans have to stay up the whole night every E3 if we want to catch the bloody Sony conference, which always starts around 2 or 3 AM.

Yeah, you right you right. Props for toughing it out during those times. Guess we got to do the same. I'm excited all in all though. Looking forward to Quantum Break!

Phil Spencer referred to it as "first party" though.

And who tipped off gamespot about the third party exclusive? Was it Phil? I sincerely doubt it. And since he's the only person who refers to third party exclusives as first party, that argument holds no water. The terms first party and third party have been around for a long time and are generally accepted to mean developed in house and developed by an independent studio respectively.

Take gears, for example. Those were third party exclusives. The next gears game will be a first party because it's being developed by a studio owned by Microsoft.

OK. Well he has a strange definition of first party, then. Not one I've seen before.

Not really. Sony does the same thing nowadays.

They fund it, it's first-party.

The distinction that exist are "internally developed first-party games" and "externally developed first-party games."

Nah, any game published/funded by MS is first party. They may come from third party studios, but the games themselves are first party (some people call these second party, which is a separate thing). MS helps out with the games just like they would if they owned the studio. Check out the credits to Mass Effect 1 for example. A lot of familiar names from 343. Kiki Wolfkill listed as Director of Art.

Calling them third party exclusives doesn't work, because at that point its basically saying there's no difference between something like Bioshock 1 (for a year) and Alan Wake.

Edit: Nightengale sums it up nicely.

The whole "we help out with stuff on externally developed first-party games" is something that is generally hard to define on how big/small it is, anyway.

Eg. We know ( based off the Grounded documentary ) that during development, there are folks that aren't part of ND officially ( but part of Sony's overall team ) that came in to help and assist with development of TLoU.

On the same veins, we have The Order, citing SSM 'help', even though we know all SSM did is have their producer on-set to manage the project, but everything else is RAD through-and-through.

So the whole "we help out on stuff" thing is a muddy thing to use as a quantifier in the first place. It's like how films/TV shows have 'executive producers' that do nothing but allow their name to be attached to projects, or writers that only write one episode, and then someone else writes the rest of the season.

posted?

mike is the studio head at Microsoft

He went to Osaka to see the game and came back the night after so they're obviously (or seemingly to me) getting it ready for some sort of showing even if it's just another teaser.

Tgs was always going to be a good place to show more but I'm hoping we might get a teaser or something at gamescom (sort of like they did for QB at e3)

New Horizon 2 demo please in a different area of the map, maybe the foothills of the Alps. I will watch with great excitement whilst drinking 16 pints of rum...

They've been planning this for a while.
Ofcourse they have been planning it for a while, you can't just improvise a show like this a month in advance. Was just stating that it was weird for them to wait so long to officially announce it, gives us less time to speculate and generate hype:)

Only 2 days later than they announced their thing for last year so the timing is consistently at least

Remedy is one of my favourite developers and I hadn't heard of Quantum Break until it was mentioned here. Really excited to see more of this game as anything they're involved with is usually amazing.

Yet he hasn't referred to SO as "first party" even once. Odd for someone who "always refers to third party games as first psrty exclusives". Also again, if MS owns the IP, its a first party game. Doesn't matter if it's from a third party dev. Quantum Break is a first party game, State of Decay is first party, KI is first party and Scalebound is first party.

Can't wait to see what the big surprises they've hinted at are. MS already won E3, they are going for that sweep!

Same here. Expectations are neutral. I'm expecting more information the games we missed at E3, maybe 1 new announcement. As they did with E3, would like them to stay game focused, no filler (and no reminding us they will be talking about games).

Would love some Gears news especially something similar to what they're doing with master chief collection.

I've posted this a dozen times now but this is exactly what I want to, I still have my 360 due to needing it for Gears, even if they sell it full price the amount of time I would spend in MP games would be more than worth it.

I would just settle for the MP only modes and no SP though.

It's been ages since I have seen anything of Quantum Break, looks awesome.

Quantum Break, the reason I'm saying no to PS4, give me the goods! I'd love to see some Chief and and Gears too, and Mass Effect!
