Microsoft Gamescom teaser - August 12 Xbox briefing

I really want Quantum Break to be Microsoft's "TLOU".

Just curious, is there a specific aspect of TLOU that you hope QB emulates? Or do you mean your statement in a general sense, hoping that QB is similarly one of the greatest games of all time and a huge commercial success?

One of the greatest games of all time? TLOU wasn't even the best game last year dude.

Anyway QB will probably have much better mechanics than TLOU so I think we're good.

Time will tell and it's obviously subjective, but it's true there is a lot of hyperbole on TLOU. There are many ads on TV for the PS4 pack, and they call it "the game that defined a whole generation" or something like that. Come on it's barely been a year, a bit early to generalize to a generation...
Sorry for the random rant, I just happened to see the ad again while reading the above message.:P

While I expect to really enjoy TLOU once I finally play it, I'm trying really hard to wrap my head around that concept, and failing. How can a game that came out at the tail end of a generation define it? I can see Wii Sports, Gears of War or Modern Warfare in that role, but TLOU can only be a fitting closing to a great generation, not a game that defined it.

But whatever, marketing is going to market. Back to Gamescom...

I wonder what Press play are working on. I remember them saying a while back that Totem was made by two of their employees. I'd have to assume that their larger team is on something else. I really enjoyed Max earlier this year

It's probably too early to announce something, I guess we'll see what Press Play are working on at next year's E3. We'll probably see something from Twisted Pixel though, Lococycle was completed about a year before.

BTW I remember seeing in a thread here that two guys from Irrational went to MS, do we know in which team they work on?

Last we knew they working on "More Max and a new IP" - the new IP presumably is Project Totem

I really hope we see Twisted Pixels new game after the concept art and motion capture image they teaser in Lococycle but why knows. They didn't make the PC or XB1 ports (Double Helix did them) so Lococycle was presumably finished before that

I guess it just means it's a pinnacle of what was achieved during the generation. And looking back it'll one of the most notable titles of the generation.

Yes, their next Xbox One game is a 2015 title so I doubt we'll see it before Project Totem releases. We might get a final name for Project Totem, however.

2015 title? nice, Max was a pretty good game and I'd like to see what they will come up with for their next project.

Would like to see more of quantum break

I also can't wait to see it in action...I'm wondering if the protagonist can freeze time, if yes then this could potentially lead to some really cool shooting/gameplay moments (Singularity's time freezing bubble combined with the shotgun comes to mind).

I'd also love to see more of Scalebound and Phantom Dust as well but I guess these two will be saved for the TGS.

It's going to be interesting to see what new games Microsoft have up their sleeve.

This autumn winter there seems to be a nice steady release of exclusive xbox one games, where as the PS4 appears to have little until next year, and that is where xbox seems to be lacking in some ways.

I would love a viva piñata but a selection of platform and quirky games would be good.

Also no man's sky... Try and get it for us!

Press Play has another project other then New Max and Totem. Their internal goal is to always have three games going on (be it preproduction or production).

I really hope they get Totem out soon. The game is fucking fantastic.

Quantum Break, Gears, Crackdown, Forza and MCC.

Yes

You're not going to see shit from Gears until next year at the earliest. Same with Crackdown.

Totem is due in October I think they said, looks fun.

They've released a Windows mobile/Windows 8 game recently so it could just be for that unless you know something else?

I wouldn't worry about the Xbox lineup next year. Prior to this E3 Microsoft had never publicly announced Forza Horizon, the MCC or Ori and they are all scheduled for fall 2014.

We know they will have Quantum Break and Halo 5. Below will probably come out. And they will probably have another Forza plus some other games that they haven't announced yet.

Looking forward to Quantum Break a lot, I'm a sucker for time-based mechanics.

Scalebound is the game I want to see most and they'll probably save it for TGS next month, but a little tease would be nice.

errr, huh? I've been trying to understand this perception but it's really ignoring the reality.

Holiday retail exclusives
Wii U: Smash Bros, Bayonetta 2, and Captain Toad
Xbox One: Forza Horizon 2, Sunset Overdrive, and Halo MC.
PS4: Driveclub, LBP3, and Guilty Gear Xrd

Same number of games and the only repeating genre is racing, which is a different sub-genre. So comparing them directly makes little sense unless you're talking about sales.

Limiting ourselves to just retail exclusives makes no sense in this day and age. By the end of the year Microsoft is also publishing D4, Ori and the Blind Forest, Killer Instinct Season 2, Project Spark, and Project Totem, in addition to running Fable Heroes and Halo 5 betas. Guilty Gear Xrd is a third party game, and there are several of those on Xbox One as well (Fantasia, Dance Central, Below and some other indies). List wars are not among my favorite things, but I feel comfortable saying that Xbox One has a stronger line-up for the rest of this year.

I'd say that Quantum Break, Fable Heroes, Halo 5, Phantom Dust, Crackdown and Scalebound (and Forza 6 is a given) represent a pretty good start to their post-2014 efforts, but sure, the more the merrier.

If you're going to include digital titles (no one ever does this. Ex. holiday 2013-first half of this year) I find it incredibly hard to act like the X1 objectively has the better fall lineup. BTW, D4 is not coming out this year and Project Spark is on PC. If you mention X1/PC titles or casual titles then you have to consider things like Planetside 2 and Singstar.

Anyways, I was just replying to that one guy who made it seem like the number of holiday titles was so lopsided. Looking at the raw numbers and previews of the games says all 3 consoles will have great holiday games. There doesn't appear to be a clear "winner" unless your talking about sales.
Says who? Because unless you know something Swery65 doesn't, he said yesterday it was still coming this year

Weird. After the complete silence the game is suddenly coming out this year? 4 months left, let's see what happens.

They told me as recently as a few weeks ago that they are an three game studio. Which as of now is Totem, Max and something new.

And I genuinely don't know what their new thing is.

Ohh well thats exciting anyway, perhaps they will be given a chance to develop an older IP of Microsoft's that is not doing anything (if they want to do it).

Max was great.

Yeah I don't know about it defining the generation. It is borrowing elements from a lot of games that came before it.

That said it being heralded as one of the best of all time is something I agree with and even more so having gone through the game again.

The mechanics are the only thing I am worried about. Alan Wake was a far cry from what Remedy achieved with the MP series.

Nobody said exclusive games. The Xbox one has 11 MS published games digital and retail coming to it not counting indie games. Those games are all either xb1 exclusive , 360 or PC.

Let them dream, let them hold on to something.

Press Play seems to be an amazingly talented studio. Some of the platform elements in Max really got me. And the game had a nice charm. Based on Max I think there is a fair chance they will deliver some more small highlights this generation.

Came into this thread and see talk of PS4 games. How amusing. Can you guys keep thread on topic?

With that being said, looking forward mostly to QB. I don't think MS will announce anything major at GC but you never know. If anything perhaps some ID@Xbox games.

I think they have to announce something because otherwise the live streamed briefing might not be filled with much? They will need/want something to get talking but they do have a lot announced already so who knows.

Im not saying it has to or will be some sort of blockbuster new game but something else to get people talking... they said at some point they have more games in development than at any other time in Microsoft Studios history I think? Who knows. We'll find out in just over a week

Last I heard D4 was coming out this year, unless that has recently changed?

Also, if you wanna play this game, Guilty Gear Xrd is niche and is also coming to PS3, and so is LBP3.

Here's to hoping!

If MS is gonna take GC more seriously like they said they would, then hopefully so. Announce 2-3 semi-big games would be nice. Really looking forward to seeing some more stuff come out of 1st party studios however. Or maybe Rare's new direction.

New footage, new SKU, new services, 3rd-party games, etc.

EA rarely announces stuff at their Gamescom show, yet they host one anyway.

You really think Banjo or PD are coming back?

I think now the Kinect boat has sailed it is time for those franchises to return, Rare are sitting on so much potential and Microsoft need to start using it, even if they do a Killer Instinct with them.

I also agree with this. I think the showcase will be QB and maybe a new KI reveal, and they will keep the next big reveals for TGS as they also have that coming up soon and need new content to show for the Japanese market. Would be nice to see teasers of some games like Gears of War or Halo 5, maybe a new Forza 5 track for free. But I think they will mostly reiterate on what they showed at E3. We should still expect a few surprises, but nothing major.

Potential takes time to materialise, especially if we're talking AAA games development.

Rare only recently finished KSR, and arguably, even more recently have to look themselves in the mirror and realise that the Kinect fever/crutch is dead and they're going to have to define themselves with something else.

Unless they want to do basically a CGi or logo announcement only, realistically Rare wouldn't have anything ready at this stage. Maybe next year, but this year?
