Microsoft is preparing investors on potential acquisition of gaming studios

Hope they don't buy talented devs and force them to create AA GamePass filler...

Would be better for Sony to moneyhat them #4theplayers.

Seriously though, do you really believe that Microsoft directly forces them to do crappy game pass games.

Do you even know how to make money? Microsoft is a company like any other that wants to make profit. Granted, they miss the spot many times, but they also nail it from time to time.

This is good news from Xbox gamers. Later in the gen they should be treated to a lot of good titles. I wonder if they are going for more AA studios

Now is the time to rebuild what Sony destroyed.

Re-form Evolution Studio's staff and make PGR5 (Yes I'm still salty about that).

I'm sure we all want them to buy up some big studios that make multiplatform games because that's what's best for their business, and that's all we care about here - what's best for the business. Right? Cause that's the reaction when Sony do it......

You see, it's only good for business if it's Sony. Any studio acquired by MS becomes a mediocre double AA gamepass oriented studio. Whereas on the other end, Sony is willing to provide proper investment to create next gen experiences and push the envelope year on year.

You dont sound fun at all.

Pretty much all their studios, and Microsoft themselves, have said numerous times that they dont force, and are not forced to make certain games. Bleeding Edge, which is always the culprit for this talk, was in development long before Microsoft bought them. And Grounded is a side project by 12 devs fr Obsidian, and they have at least 2 AAA rpgs in the works at the same time.

Its just common sense as well. AAA games would make Gamepass a lot more desirable than a load of Indie style games. Also it would probably be a lot cheaper to moneyhat a load of AA and Indie games form 3rd parties, than it would be to actually buy studios for that. Think about it.

the truth is middle ground like often.
regardless of type and/or content appreciation what is sure is that it will take years to transform AA studio like sony did then.
it will also take some time for AAA acquisitions.

I think they are misinterpreting what is being said, they are investing in their new studios, that says nothing about acquisitions. That doesn't mean that they won't buy another studio but this tweet isn't exactly saying that either.

Come on boys, let me hear those magical words.

I want to ear em.

Make my day.

I need to hear it at least once every generation.

Everything is on track because:

TEN. YEAR. PLAN.

I'm an Xbox guy, but bleeding edge made me feel out of touch with gaming, it just felt like junk to me. Ugly design, granted didnt really know what I was doing so i'm probably to hard on it, but also didnt have the urge to learn how to play it either.

Now if only these acquisitions would actually bear fruit.
MS has been throwing around money for years now and there is still nothing on the horizon that can compare to something like Naughty Dog or Sony Santa Monica....

Actually most fo the studios they bought were bought in the last 1-2 years. It takes time to makes games.

Bland management commentary in the annual accounts being spun as what, some sort of imminent intent to pounce on new acquisitions?

Context: MS annual accounts contain pages and pages of management commentary. In the 9 pages of describing their businesses segment by segment gaming is on the last page above only Bing.

The full description of their gaming segment is:

Gaming

Our gaming platform is designed to provide a variety of entertainment through a unique combination of content, community, and cloud. Our exclusive game content is created through Xbox Game Studios, a collection of first-party studios creating iconic and differentiated gaming experiences. We continue to invest in new gaming studios and content to expand our IP roadmap and leverage new content creators. These unique gaming experiences are the cornerstone of Xbox Game Pass, a subscription service and gaming community with access to a curated library of over 100 first- and third-party console and PC titles.

The gamer remains at the heart of the Xbox ecosystem. We continue to open new opportunities for gamers to engage both on- and off-console with both the launch of Project xCloud, our game streaming service, and continued investment in gaming hardware. Project xCloud utilizes Microsoft's Azure cloud technology to allow direct and on-demand streaming of games to PCs, consoles, and mobile devices, enabling gamers to take their favorites games with them and play on the device most convenient to them. Project xCloud will provide players with more choice over how and where they play.

Xbox Live enables people to connect and share online gaming experiences and is accessible on Xbox consoles, Windows-enabled devices, and other devices. Xbox Live is designed to benefit users by providing access to a network of certified applications and services and to benefit our developer and partner ecosystems by providing access to a large customer base. Xbox revenue is mainly affected by subscriptions and sales of first- and third-party content, as well as advertising. Growth of our Gaming business is determined by the overall active user base through Xbox enabled content, availability of games, providing exclusive game content that gamers seek, the computational power and reliability of the devices used to access our content and services, and the ability to create new experiences through first-party content creators.

Yep, klobrille's tweet is misleading. They are not announcing anything non new studios beyond a generic statement that heir strategy is that they will continue to invest in their first party studios. We already knew this.

Time to buy WB.

Concerned fanboys outnumber the sane gamers in these threads, every time. Hey, at least when MS buys studios their games still come to PC. Don't worry so hard, guys. You don't have to buy a console from the "enemy" or pretend that these studios suck all of a sudden.

Kinda feels like the "please hold the line" talk has been going on way longer than that...since the end of the 360 era.
Some of the promises have def been longer than that for sure. But most of the studios they bought were bought in the last 1-2 years.
Its interesting really as it will be about 3-4 years when a lot of the major fruits of these deals will show fruition, right about the time support for XB1 ends.

I got excited when they bought a bunch of teams back in 2018.

But then I saw that 2 years later, they all just had CGI teasers. That's a lot of time wasted.

I want to live in a world where great games only take 2 years to make. It's like you guys don't want MS to launch AA games but you also want games made quickly. Pick one, not that you all care since you're not buying an Xbox, just trolling it.

I never said I expected it finished in 2 years. I am implying that you shouldn't be 2 years into a project and have nothing to show except for a CGI teaser video that you paid some other company to create for you to pitch your game's theme/feel/idea. That's day zero shit. And that's all they have at this point from multiple acquisitions from 2 years ago.

That's how far behind they are in their development and the reason that they had to create all of the PR to hide it that "you guys" ate up with a spoon.

I doubt xbox has even made a profit since inception 20 years ago. For a company that's so good at making profits elsewhere they're not very good at it on xbox.
